Chinese citizens travelling directly from China to Malawi are not normally subject to a yellow-fever certificate rule. A certificate is required for travellers aged 1 or older arriving from, or transiting more than 12 hours through, a yellow-fever-risk country; malaria prevention is also recommended. [1][3]

Zambia Safari Seasons in 2026: When to Go for Each Park are easiest to plan around the dry months from June to September, with July and August as peak safari months for cooler weather and strong game viewing.[1] Visit from November to May for green landscapes, birding, and the November bat migration; combine Victoria Falls and safari from June to August for the most balanced trip.[1][6]
Zambia Safari Seasons in 2026: When to Go for Each Park is a planning guide for choosing dry-season game drives, green-season birding, Victoria Falls visits, and remote bush camps. Zambia’s seasonal weather changes road access, lodge openings, wildlife viewing conditions, and the type of safari experience you can expect.
Zambia is best for travelers who want a more focused, guide-led safari rather than a rushed checklist trip. The country’s main wildlife-viewing period runs from May to October, while the core dry safari period is June to September.[2][1] That gives you several good choices, but each month has a different feel.
Quick answer: choose June to September for reliable dry conditions and classic game viewing. Choose July or August if you want peak safari conditions and can book early. Choose November to May if birding, green scenery, and seasonal events matter more than easy road travel.[1]
This guide explains how Zambia safari seasons affect South Luangwa-style walking safaris, Lower Zambezi river experiences, Kafue’s broad landscapes, Liuwa Plain’s remote appeal, and Victoria Falls add-ons. Before you set dates, read SafariFind’s first-timer verdict on whether Zambia is good for safari for a clear view of the country’s travel style.
Zambia safari seasons in 2026 divide into a dry wildlife season from roughly May to October and a green season from November to May. June to September is the main safari period because the weather is dry and cooler, while July and August are the busiest months for wildlife trips.[1]
Compare Zambia safari packages for June to September travel if your priority is dry roads, established camp access, and classic game viewing. Booking early matters most for July and August, when peak-season dates are in highest demand.
Zambia’s dry season is the core period for a traditional safari. SafariFind identifies May to October as the best wildlife-viewing window, and the June-to-September stretch brings dry, cooler conditions that support game drives and guided bush activities.[2][1]
Known for: clearer weather, easier travel between safari areas, lower grass in many landscapes, and a stronger focus on mammals. Best for: first-time safari travelers, photographers, couples, and guests who want to combine several parks in one trip.
July and August are Zambia’s peak safari months.[1] These months suit travelers who value dependable dry-season conditions and can accept higher demand for flights, camps, and popular guides. They are also practical months for a Zambia itinerary that combines a wildlife park with Victoria Falls.[6]
Zambia’s peak period does not mean every camp feels crowded. It means that the most sought-after dates sell first. Ask operators about camp size, shared vehicle limits, guide-to-guest ratios, and included transfers before you pay a deposit.
Zambia’s green season runs from November to May and is the main period for birding.[1] Rain brings greener landscapes and fresh seasonal energy, but it can also change access. Some parks and lodges become difficult or impossible to reach from mid-November to March because rainfall affects roads and airstrips.[1]
Best for: birders, repeat safari guests, photographers who enjoy lush scenery, and travelers who can keep dates flexible. Zambia has more than 780 bird species, so this season gives serious birdwatchers a strong reason to look beyond the usual dry-season calendar.[2]
Zambia’s parks are spread across large, varied landscapes. A dry-season camp itinerary can focus on wildlife viewing and outdoor activities, while a wet-season plan needs stronger attention to access and lodge opening dates. Therefore, your ideal month depends on what you refuse to miss: mammals, birds, Victoria Falls, or quieter green scenery.
Each Zambia safari park fits the seasons differently because access, activities, and trip style change with rainfall. The safest broad choice is June to September for a multi-park safari, while November to May works best when your operator confirms that your selected camp, road route, or flight connection is running.[1]
South Luangwa is a strong choice for travelers who want a classic Zambia safari rhythm: early starts, guided drives, and time in camp between activities. The June-to-September main safari period is the simplest window for planning, especially if you want dry conditions and a cooler feel.[1]
South Luangwa also suits travelers who care about guided walking experiences. Keep your plan flexible around exact camp operations, as each operator sets its own activity dates and safety rules. For practical preparation, use SafariFind’s guide to Zambia safari safety for first-timers before choosing a walking-focused itinerary.
Lower Zambezi is best for travelers who want wildlife viewing alongside time on the river. The dry months from June to September make the most straightforward choice for a river-and-bush trip because they fall inside Zambia’s main safari period.[1]
Best for: couples, small groups, photographers, and travelers who want a slower itinerary. Confirm what each camp includes, because activities, boat time, guiding, and transfers differ across packages. A longer stay gives you more room for changing weather and relaxed time between outings.
Kafue is a sensible option for travelers who want to spend more days in one wide safari area. June through September is the most dependable planning window under Zambia’s countrywide dry-season pattern.[1] This timing also makes a multi-stop itinerary easier when you combine Kafue with another Zambian destination.
Kafue trips need careful comparison because camp locations can be far apart. Look at transfer time, nights in each camp, included activities, and whether the itinerary uses road or air transfers. A cheap headline price can lose value if it leaves too little time in the bush.
Liuwa Plain and other remote areas need extra seasonal planning because rain can limit access from mid-November to March.[1] A remote safari is rewarding when logistics are confirmed, but it is not the right place to assume every route stays open through the rainy months.
Important consideration: ask your operator for written confirmation of camp opening dates, transfer method, and weather backup plans. If you travel in the green season, build spare time into your itinerary instead of booking tight connections on the same day.

The table uses planning ranges rather than fixed prices because no single Zambia rate fits every camp, transfer, and season. For a clearer budget framework, see real Zambia safari price ranges in 2026 before you compare quotes.
Plan a Zambia safari by first choosing your main goal, then selecting dates that match the weather and access conditions. June to September is the best all-round choice for wildlife viewing, November to May is best for green-season birding, and February to May is best for seeing Victoria Falls at its fullest.[1][6]
Zambia’s calendar becomes simple when you choose one lead experience. July and August suit peak dry-season safari travel. November suits travelers who want the bat migration, while November to May suits birders looking for Zambia’s green season.[1]
Victoria Falls is fullest from February to May, but June to August is the optimum period for combining the falls with a safari.[6] This difference matters. A traveler who wants the largest volume of water should not expect the same dry-season safari conditions as a traveler who visits later in the year.
Zambia safari seasons in 2026 also affect how many nights you need. Give each park at least several nights where possible, rather than changing camps every day. Extra time protects your trip from weather delays and lets you enjoy slower activities without rushing.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified safari operators, so you can compare trip details before selecting dates. Check whether the quote includes domestic flights, road transfers, park fees, activities, meals, drinks, and emergency support. These details matter more in wet months, when a route can change quickly.
Compare verified Zambia safari operators for wet- and dry-season travel and read authentic traveler reviews before confirming a remote itinerary. Ask each operator the same three questions: Is the camp open on my dates? How will I get there? What is the backup plan if weather affects access?
Zambia’s camp choice shapes your experience as much as the month. A small bush camp can feel ideal in peak dry season, while a lodge with dependable transfers may offer more comfort during a weather-sensitive green-season trip. Review the practical differences in SafariFind’s Zambia safari lodge picks for 2026 before you decide.
Finally, leave room in your budget for the season you choose. Peak dates often need earlier planning, while green-season travel requires stronger flexibility. SafariFind’s guide to cutting a Zambia safari budget in 2026 can help you decide where to save without weakening the parts of the trip that matter most.
The best time for a Zambia safari in 2026 is June to September. This is Zambia’s main safari period, with dry and cooler conditions that support game viewing. July and August are the peak safari months, so book well ahead for the widest camp choice.[1]
Mid-November to March is the hardest period for a remote Zambia safari because rain can make some parks and lodges inaccessible. This does not mean all travel stops, but you need a flexible route and written confirmation that your chosen camp is open.[1]
November is a good month for birders and travelers who want Zambia’s bat migration. November also begins the green-season period, which runs to May. However, rainfall can affect access, so choose an operator with a clear transfer and weather backup plan.[1]
June to August is the best period for combining Victoria Falls with a Zambia safari. Victoria Falls is fullest between February and May, but June to August gives a stronger balance between visiting the falls and enjoying dry-season safari conditions.[6]
Book a Zambia safari by comparing camp opening dates, transfers, inclusions, and verified reviews before paying. SafariFind helps you compare packages and tour operators, request quotes, and choose a trip that fits your preferred park, month, and travel style.
Zambia safari seasons in 2026 are clearest when you match your dates to one main goal. Choose June to September for dry, cooler safari conditions, and target July or August if you want Zambia’s peak wildlife period.[1] Choose November to May for birding and lush scenery, or visit in November for the bat migration.[1]
Victoria Falls travelers should choose February to May for the fullest water flow or June to August for the best safari-and-falls balance.[6] A 5- to 9-night falls-and-safari route is a practical starting point, while a 4- to 7-night park stay gives you more time for unhurried wildlife viewing.

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."
