Your extraordinary adventure begins with a scenic drive from Arusha through the Arusha National Park corridor and into the remote western flank of Kilimanjaro, a side of the mountain that feels truly wild and untouched. At Lemosho Gate, registration formalities are completed, your team of guides, porters, and cook is formally introduced, and the Lemosho Route opens before you.
As you enter the rainforest, the air feels immediately alive, thick with mist, filled with the scent of wet earth and moss, and alive with the calls of birds and the distant movement of colobus monkeys overhead. The trail climbs gently but steadily through cathedral like montane forest, with a canopy so high and dense that it filters the light into soft green shafts. Your first night is spent beneath the forest canopy at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m), meaning "Big Tree Camp" in Swahili, an atmospheric forest clearing that feels as though it belongs to a different world entirely.
