Your journey begins with anticipation in the air. After registration at Londorosi Gate and an introduction to your expert Wildflip Safaris guide, porter, and cook team, you step into the deep green of the rainforest and leave behind the familiar world entirely.
The Lemosho Route opens through some of Kilimanjaro's most untouched and biodiverse forest, which is thick, living, ancient, and gloriously quiet. The trail winds gently upward through towering trees alive with birdsong, with occasional glimpses of black-and-white colobus monkeys moving through the canopy and the distant calls of mountain birds echoing around you. The path is soft underfoot, the air cool and clean, and every step carries a sense of entering somewhere sacred.
After approximately 6km and 3 - 4 gentle hours of hiking, you arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp, known as "Big Tree Camp," a magical clearing in the forest at 2,800m. By the time you reach it, you feel something shift. The mountain has welcomed you. Settle into your tent, enjoy a hot meal prepared by your cook, and let the forest sounds carry you into a deep, well-earned sleep.
