About this safari
Embark on one of Ethiopia’s most breathtaking day trips with a journey to Debre Libanos Monastery and the Blue Nile Gorge region. Departing from Addis Ababa, the tour takes you through scenic highlands and dramatic landscapes before arriving at the spectacular Jemma River Gorge, often referred to as “Africa’s Grand Canyon” due to its deep cliffs and sweeping views. The adventure continues with a guided hike to the historic Portuguese Bridge, where you can admire the stunning canyon scenery and observe the endemic Gelada baboon in its natural habitat. After enjoying a scenic lunch overlooking the gorge at a local mountain lodge, you will visit the sacred Debre Libanos Monastery, a significant spiritual site founded in the 13th century by Saint Tekle Haymanot.
