Zimbabwe's top safari destinations offer distinct experiences at different price points. Hwange National Park ranges from $325 to $1,800 per day, while Mana Pools costs $400 to $750 per night in 2026. Choose Hwange for waterhole wildlife viewing or Mana Pools for walking safaris and river adventures. Book through verified operators on SafariFind to compare packages and read authentic reviews from past travelers.
Zimbabwe safari packages in 2026 offer two premier destinations with contrasting wildlife experiences and price structures. Hwange National Park specializes in waterhole-based game drives, while Mana Pools emphasizes walking safaris and canoe adventures along the Zambezi River. Understanding the pricing differences helps you choose the right experience for your budget and travel style.
Zimbabwe safari costs are structured by accommodation tier, park location, and guiding services [1]. Budget safaris start at $325 per person per day, mid-range options cost $400–$600 daily, and luxury camps run $1,300–$2,800 per day [4]. The variation reflects concession access, waterhole positioning, and room amenities.
These parks serve different traveler preferences. Hwange attracts guests who want stationary wildlife viewing at waterholes, especially to see large elephant herds during dry season. Mana Pools draws active travelers seeking walking safaris, canoeing, and intimate wildlife encounters.
The price gap between parks matters for budget planning. Mana Pools typically costs more because walking safaris and canoe excursions require specialized guides and smaller group sizes. Hwange's vehicle-based drives can accommodate larger groups, lowering per-person costs at some camps.
Several factors affect your final cost. Accommodation grade—from basic camps to ultra-luxury lodges—creates the biggest price swing. Private concession access versus national park entry also impacts fees. Peak season rates (July–October) run 15–20% higher than shoulder months.
Meal plans, transfers, and park fees add to base accommodation costs. Many packages bundle game drives and guided activities, while others charge separately. Always clarify what's included before comparing quotes from different operators.
Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe's largest reserve, covering 14,650 square kilometers with diverse wildlife including over 45,000 elephants [2]. Daily rates range from $325 at budget camps to $1,800 at exclusive private concessions in 2026. The park's dry-season concentration of animals at waterholes makes it ideal for photography and wildlife viewing from July through October.
Budget safaris in Hwange use shared accommodation and group game drives. These packages suit cost-conscious travelers who prioritize wildlife viewing over luxury amenities. Camps offer basic but clean rooms, shared bathrooms, and simple meals. You'll share safari vehicles with other guests, typically 6–8 people per game drive.
Budget camps like those operating in the main park area provide solid wildlife encounters. You'll see elephants, buffalo, lions, and African wild dogs during daily drives. Guides are experienced but may speak limited English at the most basic operations. These safaris cost $10,200 for 12-day packages including flights from major hubs [7].
Mid-range camps offer private or semi-private rooms, better meals, and smaller game drive groups (4–6 people). These lodges sit near productive waterholes or within private concessions, improving wildlife viewing odds. Guides speak fluent English and provide detailed wildlife education.
Mid-range Hwange stays typically include accommodation, meals, and twice-daily game drives. Walking safaris are sometimes available for an extra fee. Amenities include comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms, and evening campfires. A 7-day mid-range Hwange package costs roughly $4,200–$7,000 per person including transfers.
Luxury camps in private concessions offer exclusive wildlife experiences with personalized service. These lodges feature spacious suites, fine dining, spa facilities, and expert guides. Game drives often use open-sided vehicles for better photography, with groups limited to 4 people or fewer.
Luxury concessions like Linkwasha and Somalisa operate on private land with exclusive wildlife rights. Guides are highly trained naturalists offering deep ecological knowledge. You'll enjoy sundowner drinks at scenic viewpoints and bush dinners under the stars. A 7-day luxury Hwange package costs $8,400–$12,600 per person.
Mana Pools National Park offers a premium, active safari experience centered on walking and canoe safaris along the Zambezi River [4]. Nightly rates range from $400 at comfortable camps to $750 at premium lodges in 2026. The park's designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site reflects its ecological significance and pristine wilderness character.
Comfortable camps in Mana Pools provide good value for active travelers. Accommodation features private tents or chalets with en-suite bathrooms and solar power. Meals are hearty and well-prepared, often featuring fresh local ingredients. Daily activities include walking safaris, canoe trips, and evening game drives.
Guides at comfortable lodges are experienced walking safari specialists trained in wildlife safety and interpretation. Group sizes stay small—typically 4–6 people per activity. A 5-night stay at a comfortable Mana Pools camp costs $2,000–$3,000 per person, including meals and activities.
Premium camps offer upmarket accommodation with elevated service standards. Rooms feature quality furnishings, private decks overlooking the river, and hot showers. Meals showcase gourmet cooking with wine pairings. Walking safaris and canoe excursions use experienced guides with specialized training.
Premium lodges often have smaller guest capacities (8–12 people), creating an intimate atmosphere. You'll enjoy exclusive access to certain areas and flexible activity schedules. A 5-night premium Mana Pools package costs $3,000–$6,000 per person including all meals and activities [4].
Luxury camps represent the pinnacle of Mana Pools experiences. These ultra-exclusive lodges feature only 4–8 suites with private infinity pools, fine linens, and personalized service. Guides are naturalists with university education and years of field experience. Activities are completely customized to guest interests.
Luxury camps offer helicopter safaris, private island picnics, and guided walks led by wildlife researchers. Meals are prepared by chefs trained in international cuisine. A 4-night luxury Mana Pools stay costs $5,200–$11,200 per person. These represent the highest-end African safari experiences available.

| Luxury | $1,500–$1,800 | $1,300–$2,800 | $7,500–$9,000 | $6,500–$14,000 |
Most safari packages bundle accommodation, meals, and guided activities. Hwange packages typically include twice-daily game drives and evening activities. Mana Pools packages feature walking safaris, canoe trips, and some game drives. Park entry fees are usually included, but international flights are not.
Transfers between parks, Victoria Falls airport, and lodges may be extra. Light aircraft transfers cost $100–$300 per person, while road transfers cost $50–$150. Travel insurance, visa fees, and personal spending are additional expenses not in quoted package prices.
July through October are peak dry-season months with premium pricing. Rates during these months run 15–20% higher than May–June and November. December through February is green season with lower prices but increased rainfall and fewer animals visible at waterholes.
Booking 3–6 months in advance for peak season can save 10–15% on some packages [8]. Last-minute bookings during low season sometimes offer discounts of 20–30%. Many operators adjust pricing monthly based on demand and occupancy forecasts.
Your choice depends on travel style, budget, and activity preferences. Hwange suits photographers and wildlife enthusiasts who enjoy vehicle-based safari drives. Mana Pools attracts active adventurers seeking walking safaris and water-based activities.
Many travelers visit both parks on one trip. A typical itinerary spends 4 days in Hwange and 4 days in Mana Pools with one transfer day. This combination costs $8,000–$15,000 per person for mid-range accommodation including transfers and meals.
Fly-in safaris make combining parks easier. Light aircraft transfer between parks in 1–2 hours versus 6+ hours by road. The convenience costs extra but saves time and reduces travel fatigue. Nine-day Zimbabwe safaris covering both parks start at $8,793 including flights [7].
For help planning a multi-park itinerary, request quotes from verified Zimbabwe safari operators on SafariFind who specialize in custom packages.
Beyond pricing, several factors affect your safari experience and total costs. Seasonal timing, health requirements, and visa regulations shape your planning timeline and budget.
July through October offers peak dry-season conditions in both parks [8]. Vegetation dies back, concentrating animals at waterholes. Temperatures are cool, making walking safaris comfortable. Wildlife viewing success rates exceed 95% during these months, but prices are highest.
May and June offer good wildlife viewing with lower prices. November brings green season beauty but reduced wildlife visibility. December through February is rainy season with lush landscapes and bird watching opportunities, plus discounted rates of 20–30%.
Zimbabwe requires yellow fever vaccination proof for entry if arriving from endemic countries. Malaria is present in both parks, requiring antimalarial medication prescribed by your doctor. Consult travel health clinics 6–8 weeks before departure. For detailed health guidance, review Zimbabwe health requirements for Australian travelers or similar resources for your nationality.
Most nationalities receive tourist visas on arrival in Zimbabwe, valid for 30 days. Passport validity must exceed 6 months beyond your stay. Some countries pre-arrange visas for faster processing. Check Zimbabwe visa requirements for your country at least 8 weeks before travel.
Bring binoculars, camera gear with extra batteries, and neutral-colored clothing for game drives. Sun protection—hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen—is essential. Walking safaris require sturdy boots and long pants for snake protection. Budget $200–$500 for personal shopping, tips, and activities beyond your package.
Zimbabwe safari costs range from $325 to $1,800 per person per day depending on park, accommodation tier, and season [1]. Budget safaris cost $2,000–$3,000 for 5 days; mid-range packages cost $3,500–$6,000; luxury safaris cost $7,500–$14,000 for 5 days. Prices are highest July–October (dry season) and lowest December–February (rainy season).
Hwange is generally cheaper at budget and mid-range levels, starting at $325 per day versus Mana Pools at $400 per night [1][4]. However, Mana Pools premium camps ($600–$1,200 per night) can cost similar or more than Hwange equivalents. Your final cost depends on accommodation tier choice and duration.
Most packages include accommodation, meals, twice-daily guided activities (game drives, walking safaris, or canoe trips), and park entry fees. Transfers between locations, international flights, travel insurance, visas, tips, and personal spending are typically extra. Always confirm inclusions with your operator before booking.
July through October is peak dry season with excellent wildlife viewing, cool temperatures, and 95%+ encounter success rates [8]. This period has the highest prices. May–June offers good wildlife viewing with lower prices. November and December–February bring lower costs but reduced wildlife visibility due to rain and green vegetation.
Yes, many travelers combine both parks on 8–10 day itineraries. A typical split is 4 days in Hwange and 4 days in Mana Pools with one transfer day. Fly-in safaris using light aircraft cost extra but save time. Nine-day combined packages start at $8,793 including flights [7]. Browse SafariFind packages combining both parks to see current options and operator reviews.
Book 3–6 months ahead for peak season (July–October) to secure your preferred camp and lock in rates before seasonal price increases of 15–20%. Shoulder season bookings (May–June, November) can be made 4–8 weeks ahead. Last-minute bookings during rainy season sometimes offer 20–30% discounts. "Cultural Vibes Travel and Tours has proved to be excellent yet again as this is now the third time, we have used them and a much-needed break after almost 3 years with the Covid pandemic. Tongesai is extremely reliable, professional, knowledgeable and does everything to make your trip a memorable experience. Compared to local larger companies, Tongesai’s individual package rates are more reasonable and come with a customized touch. We felt that our holiday with Tongesai was much better and suited us more so than if we had booked through a larger company. His individual tailoring, personal involvement and attention to detail pays off in the smooth running of your trip. Our visits to the Victoria Falls, both sides from Zimbabwe and Zambia were magnificent and never cease to amaze us. On this trip Tongesai arranged for a private sunset cruise on the Zambezi just for our family of four instead of on the larger vessels, which was a very pleasant alternative. The boat trip in Chobe is magical and a must if you venture into Botswana. Wildlife was in abundance, including lion, elephant, wildebeest, buffalo, puku, kudu, bushbuck, waterbuck, impala, gemsbok, steenbok, sable and roan antelope, etc. We even saw a relative of Cecil, the famous black-maned lion, ‘once a true king of Hwange National Park’. I have no hesitation in recommending the company for arranging tours in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana - we will definitely be seeing him again. He is currently setting up arrangements with colleagues in Kruger National Park to venture into South Africa and I wish him every success with that."

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"My travel companions and I chose the 4 day experience. Technically it is really a 3 day experience, because the last day they provide airport transportation. I feel they go above and beyond in making sure they are providing their customers with a safe, exciting and exceptional experience. Gari was our driver/guide in Zimbabwe, and was friendly, helpful, and courteous. Gari either made sure we were where we needed to be or provided his own guide trip to the Victoria Falls. He even provided the rain gear, which is most necessary. Gari and his "boss" Mr T. went above and beyond when Delta postponed our flight by a day, by helping to make sure that the connecting airline would change our reservation. They then made sure we got to the airport on time, a day later. They are always willing to provide any additional things that you would like to see and do. If you looking for a guided tour company, this is the one to use, and one that I would have no hesitation in using again."

"First, Tongesai Mtematsaka was excellent with communications and service. We couldn’t have asked for better. My questions via email were promptly answered. His English was excellent, and better. He was always on time in meeting us, coming and going. Our two hour trips from VIc Falls to the sable sands lodge, and then from the lodge to the Vic Falls airport were a highlight to our entire Africa trip. My wife and I will be discussing various aspects from the discussions with Tongesai for some time to come. By patiently answering my many questions he educated my wife and I about Zimbabwe and the region - culture, practices and assets of the people, typical family life, economy, weather, etc., and possibilities and trends into the future - all believable and detailed. The staff and facilities at the sable sands lodge were all excellent, beginning with Michelle’s clear instructions and cautions. She was a delight. We were asked if we wanted to take a charming hut as close as we could get to the marvelous watering hole there and got it. Incredibly we were greeted by a dust-cloud from a herd of maybe 100 Cape buffalo running to the water - unbelievable! The meals prepared by So and Derik were really good, throughout. MC, our drive guide was excellent and very accommodating to all the guests in the comfortable and safe-feeling, open 4x4. We met some nice co-guests. We saw so many animals on our safari that I will not attempt to recall here. I would just say that the many watering holes in the Hwange park were impressive, As an environmentalist myself I was very impressed with the solar powered system for exploiting the aquifers, and the foresight of the authorities in developing and maintains these. I know the history going back to the 1920’s, but if there wasn’t maintainence and upgrade the animals could not continue, especially with drought effects of climate change. Finally, I must comment on the fact that our first night in our hut was spent listening to the rumblings of the elephant just outside out hut. In the morning the tracks outside our hut showed how close our visitor was. We knew then that Michelle’s cautions were serious. But then more, the second night we had a lioness spend the night outside our hut, perhaps roaring a mating call. At first light MC came by with the truck and asked if we wanted to see the lion. I shot out with my camera. What an experience!! We hope our parting tip to the group of 16 people providing excellent service was meaningful. I will certainly recommend this trip to anyone who will hear me. What a privilege!!!"

"We booked our Zimbabwe trip with Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours following a recommendation from Nhongo Safaris in South Africa. Tongesai is a great communicator, and the booking process was quick, easy, and well organized. We were happy with the quote provided and were able to easily pay online. Tongesai was waiting for us at Victoria Falls Airport to take us to our accommodation. He has arranged an amazing whirlwind 48 hour visit, that was packed with a sunset cruise on the Zambezi, Morning Game drive, he accompanied us on an amazing walk of the Victoria falls and arranged an African experience dinner in the evening. It was so memorable, and everything we wanted! Overall, it was an fantastic trip, with a great guide, and we would highly recommend it for anyone considering a trip to Victoria Falls. For our next visit, we will definitely be reaching out to Tongesai and thoroughly recommend to all our friends."
