A Zimbabwe safari in 2026 costs $2,900–$9,500 for 7 days, depending on your budget level. Budget packages start at $175–$350 per day, while luxury safaris run $700–$1,000+ daily. The best time to visit is May through October for wildlife viewing. Book through verified operators on SafariFind to compare packages and read authentic reviews from past travelers.
Zimbabwe safari pricing in 2026 breaks down into three clear tiers: budget, mid-range, and luxury options. Each tier offers different levels of comfort, accommodation quality, and exclusive experiences. Understanding these categories helps you choose the right package for your needs and budget.
Budget safaris in Zimbabwe provide excellent value without sacrificing the wildlife experience. You'll stay in comfortable 3-star lodges or well-run tented camps with smaller shared game drives and good guiding standards.[1] These packages typically cost $175–$350 per day and include lodging, meals, game drives, park entrance fees, and experienced guide services.[4]
Mid-range packages offer a sweet spot between cost and comfort. Daily rates run $400–$600 per person in 2026.[2] You get better lodge amenities, more personalized attention, and access to productive wildlife areas. Many travelers find mid-range options deliver the best value for their money.
Luxury safaris deliver premium experiences with exclusive lodges, private guides, and tailor-made itineraries crafted to your exact desires.[1] Expect to pay $700–$1,000+ per day for 5-star accommodations, gourmet dining, and private game drives.[2] A 7-night luxury package typically costs $5,700–$8,900 for lodge accommodation alone.[6]
A standard 7-day Zimbabwe safari package includes several key components. Daily costs cover your accommodation at the chosen lodge tier, all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), guided game drives, national park entrance fees, and the services of an experienced safari guide.[4] Most packages do not include international flights, travel insurance, or optional activities like helicopter tours.
Zimbabwe's most popular safari destinations are Hwange National Park and Victoria Falls. Hwange covers a vast area with excellent elephant and lion populations. Victoria Falls offers stunning natural beauty combined with wildlife viewing opportunities. A 4-day package combining both typically ranges from $1,200–$3,500 depending on lodge category.[4]
The choice between budget and luxury depends on your priorities. Budget safaris work well if you value wildlife viewing and authentic experiences over luxury amenities. Luxury safaris suit travelers seeking comfort, privacy, and exclusive access to remote areas. Mid-range packages appeal to most travelers seeking balance.
Zimbabwe safari daily costs range from $175–$500 based on accommodation type and included activities.[4] Your daily rate covers multiple essential components that make up the total package cost. Breaking down these elements helps you understand where your money goes.
Accommodation represents the largest daily expense in any safari package. Budget 3-star lodges cost $60–$120 per night. Mid-range 4-star properties run $150–$250 per night. Luxury 5-star lodges charge $300–$500+ per night.[6] These prices include comfortable rooms, basic amenities, and communal dining areas.
Meals and beverages make up the second major cost component. Budget packages include simple, hearty meals prepared at the lodge. Mid-range packages offer more variety and better quality ingredients. Luxury packages feature gourmet cuisine prepared by award-winning chefs. Most packages include three meals daily plus afternoon tea and snacks.
Game drives with experienced guides cost $40–$80 per person daily. Budget packages typically include one morning or afternoon drive. Mid-range and luxury packages often include morning and afternoon game drives. Private game drives cost significantly more but offer flexibility and personalized wildlife viewing.
Park entrance fees add $10–$25 per day depending on the national park. Hwange National Park charges one rate while Victoria Falls charges another. Most tour operators include park fees in their quoted daily rates, so verify what's included before booking.
A 7-day budget safari package typically totals $2,900–$3,500 per person in 2026. This includes shared accommodations at 3-star lodges, group game drives, all meals, and park entrance fees. You'll share game drives with other travelers but benefit from lower costs.
A 7-day mid-range package costs approximately $4,200–$6,000 per person. You get better lodge quality, smaller group sizes on game drives, and more personalized service. Many travelers consider this tier the best value for money.
A 7-day luxury package ranges from $7,000–$9,500 per person or more. This includes exclusive 5-star lodge accommodation, private game drives, gourmet meals, and tailor-made itineraries. Some ultra-luxury packages with private villas exceed $15,000 per person.[6]
International flights to Zimbabwe typically cost $800–$2,000 from North America or Europe in 2026. Travel insurance adds $100–$300 for a week-long trip. Visa fees vary by nationality but generally range from $30–$100.
Optional activities not included in standard packages include helicopter tours over Victoria Falls ($200–$400), walking safaris ($50–$100 per person), and night game drives ($60–$120). Tipping guides and lodge staff is customary and typically adds 10–15% to your total cost.
Consider booking through SafariFind to compare verified operators and find packages that match your exact budget. You can request quotes from multiple tour operators and read authentic reviews from past travelers to ensure you're getting true value.
Budget safaris work best if you prioritize wildlife viewing and authentic experiences over luxury amenities. You'll share game drives with other travelers, which often enhances the experience through shared excitement and conversation.[1] Budget lodges provide clean, comfortable rooms with hot showers and reliable electricity.
Most budget safari operators in Zimbabwe are professional and experienced. You get the same expert guides and access to the same wildlife areas as more expensive packages. The main difference is shared transportation and simpler accommodations rather than inferior service quality.
Budget packages suit families, student groups, and adventurous solo travelers. If you're comfortable in shared spaces and enjoy meeting other travelers, budget safaris deliver exceptional value. You'll see the same lions, elephants, and giraffes as luxury safari guests—just at a fraction of the cost.
Mid-range packages offer the sweet spot between cost and comfort for most travelers. You get better lodge quality with private rooms, en-suite bathrooms, and pleasant common areas.[2] Game drive groups are smaller, typically 4–6 people, allowing more personalized wildlife viewing.
Mid-range operators often provide more flexible itineraries and additional activities. You might have options for walking safaris, night drives, or visits to local villages. These packages suit couples, families with teenagers, and travelers seeking reasonable comfort without excessive luxury.
The $400–$600 daily rate in 2026 covers quality experiences without the premium pricing of luxury resorts. Most mid-range lodges feature excellent guides, good food, and reliable service. This tier represents the best value for most travelers seeking a balanced safari experience.
Luxury safaris deliver exclusive experiences with private guides and tailor-made itineraries.[1] You stay in high-end lodges with premium amenities, gourmet dining, and exceptional service. Private game drives allow you to customize your wildlife viewing experience.
Luxury packages suit honeymooners, families with significant budgets, and travelers seeking the ultimate comfort. You'll have more flexibility in your schedule and access to exclusive areas. Some luxury operators offer helicopter safaris, spa treatments, and private chef services.
The $700–$1,000+ daily cost includes everything premium safari experiences offer. If you value privacy, personalized service, and exclusive access, luxury packages justify the investment. Compare luxury operators on SafariFind to find the best premium packages matching your preferences.
The best time to visit Zimbabwe for safaris is May through October 2026.[4] During these months, temperatures drop to comfortable levels (60–75°F), and wildlife concentrates around remaining water sources. You'll see more animals during game drives and have clearer skies for photography.
Peak season pricing runs higher than other times of year. Budget packages cost $250–$350 per day, mid-range packages run $500–$650 per day, and luxury packages reach $1,000–$1,200+ per day. Book 3–6 months in advance during peak season to secure the best lodges and save 15–20% on rates.[3]
July and August represent the absolute peak months when wildlife viewing is optimal. Expect the most crowded game drives and highest prices during these weeks. September and October offer nearly as good wildlife viewing with slightly fewer tourists and lower costs.
April and November offer excellent value with good wildlife viewing. Temperatures remain pleasant, and rainfall is minimal. Safari prices drop 10–20% compared to peak season, making these months attractive for budget-conscious travelers.
April sees the end of summer rains, creating lush vegetation and excellent birdwatching opportunities. November marks the start of the rainy season with occasional afternoon showers. Both months offer fewer tourists and more peaceful game drives.
The rainy season from December through March brings lower prices and fewer tourists. Budget packages drop to $175–$250 per day, representing excellent value. However, heavy rainfall can make some roads impassable and reduce wildlife visibility.
December through February sees the hottest temperatures (85–95°F) and heaviest rainfall. Some lodges offer discounted rates of 30–40% off peak prices. This season suits budget travelers and those seeking solitude, but wildlife viewing is more challenging.
March and early April represent the shoulder between rainy and dry seasons. Prices remain low while weather improves. Lush vegetation creates stunning scenery, though wildlife is more dispersed than during peak season.
Most Zimbabwe safari operators offer all-inclusive packages that bundle accommodation, meals, game drives, and park fees into one price. This approach simplifies budgeting and often provides 10–15% savings compared to booking components separately.
All-inclusive packages typically include three daily meals, morning and afternoon game drives, park entrance fees, and experienced guide services. Some luxury packages add premium amenities like spa treatments, helicopter tours, or private chefs. Verify what's included before booking, as package contents vary significantly.
À la carte packages let you customize your experience by selecting individual components. You choose your lodge, add optional activities, and book guides separately. This approach offers flexibility but requires more planning and often costs more overall.
Shared game drives include 4–8 travelers in one vehicle with one guide. These drives cost less ($40–$60 per person daily) and create social opportunities with other travelers. You'll see the same wildlife as private groups but share the guide's attention.
Private game drives feature just your group in a dedicated vehicle with a personal guide. Costs run $150–$300 per day depending on group size and lodge tier. Private drives offer flexibility to spend extra time with wildlife and customize your itinerary.
Most budget and mid-range packages include shared game drives. Luxury packages typically offer private drives as standard. You can upgrade from shared to private drives with most operators for an additional fee.
Budget lodges offer basic comfort with clean rooms, private bathrooms, and reliable electricity. Rooms typically feature twin or double beds, ceiling fans, and simple furnishings. Common areas include dining rooms, lounges, and viewing decks. These lodges cost $60–$120 per night.
Mid-range lodges provide good comfort with en-suite bathrooms, comfortable beds, and pleasant décor. Many feature air conditioning, mini-bars, and quality furnishings. Common areas include dining rooms, lounge areas, and scenic viewing decks. Nightly rates run $150–$250.
Luxury lodges deliver premium experiences with spacious suites, premium bedding, and high-end amenities. Many feature private plunge pools, outdoor showers, and luxury toiletries. Dining emphasizes gourmet cuisine, and service is exceptionally attentive. Nightly rates exceed $300–$500+.
| Package Type | Daily Cost | Accommodation | Group Size | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | $175–$350 | 3-star lodge | 6–8 people | Value-conscious travelers |
| Mid-Range | $400–$600 | 4-star lodge | 4–6 people | Balanced comfort seekers |
| Luxury | $700–$1,000+ | 5-star lodge | 1–4 people | Premium experience seekers |
Start by researching verified safari operators on SafariFind that specialize in Zimbabwe packages. Read authentic reviews from past travelers to understand real experiences. Compare pricing, inclusions, and customer ratings across multiple operators.
Request quotes from at least three operators for your desired dates and budget level. Provide specific details about your preferences: travel dates, group size, budget tier, and desired activities. Most operators respond within 24–48 hours with detailed proposals.
Compare not just price but also what's included. Some operators bundle flights, transfers, and optional activities. Others charge separately for these items. Calculate total cost including all add-ons before making your final decision.
Booking travel for April, May, or November saves 15–30% compared to peak season rates. These months offer excellent wildlife viewing without the highest prices. You'll also encounter fewer tourists on game drives.
If peak season is your only option, book 4–6 months in advance to secure better rates. Early bookings often include 10–15% discounts compared to last-minute bookings. Set calendar reminders for booking windows to capture early-bird pricing.
Many operators can customize packages to match your budget. Ask about removing certain activities or upgrading specific components. Some operators offer discounts for longer stays or group bookings.
Request that operators include airport transfers, travel insurance, or additional game drives in exchange for your business. Experienced operators often have flexibility with package contents. Don't hesitate to ask—the worst they can say is no.
Combining Zimbabwe with neighboring countries like Zambia or Botswana sometimes costs less per day than focusing on Zimbabwe alone. Regional tour operators can arrange multi-country itineraries at better rates. You'll experience more diverse wildlife and landscapes.
Browse SafariFind for packages combining Zimbabwe with other Southern African destinations. Compare total cost, duration, and included experiences. Multi-country packages often represent excellent value despite slightly higher daily rates.

"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"We (my wife and I) have just completed a 10-day tour of Zimbabwe & Botswana, plus a day-trip to Zambia - Tongesai tailored the tour to meet our interests. It was amazing, the trip of a lifetime. Highlights included touring Victoria Falls, staying at Elephant Sands, game drives in Hwange, Chobe and Moremi reserves, boat cruises on the Zambezi and Chobe rivers, and helicopter flights over Victoria Falls and the Okavango Delta. Very reasonably priced, good value for money. All accommodation and food was included in the price and was all high quality. Communication with Tongesai (booking / pre-arrival) was good, and very prompt. Gari, our main guide/driver for the whole tour, was excellent - highly knowledgeable, informative, experienced, professional, reliable, flexible, and friendly."

"I am totally impressed with this company. My emails were answered within the hour, and when I accidentally paid too much money for the tour I booked, the company immediately notified me and organized the refund. I had booked a 2-night Hwange Game Park game drive tour for my friend and me. Everything that this company organized for us, was fantastic. We knew nothing about Hwange Game Park or about any of the accommodation options available but what Cultural Tours and Travel organized for us was way above what we had expected to get, given what we paid. We were booked into Iganyana Luxury Tented Camp, which was a wonderful experience - a mix of very comfortable living in a bush environment, with great food, beautifully furnished and very comfortable tents, very attentive staff, a wonderful setting and game drives with very few other jeeps around. Elephants came to drink from the swimming pool at night and we could watch animals grazing while sitting outside enjoying the bush atmosphere. A Cultural Tours and Travel representative picked us up from the Hotel in Victoria Falls in a very comfortable and new-looking minivan and drove us to the Camp then back to the Hotel at the end of our stay, providing very interesting information about Zimbabwe and the wildlife along the way. The next time we travel to Zimbabwe, we will definitely book with Cultural Tours and Travel and if we do another game drive tour, we'll request to be accomodated at the Iganyana Luxury Tented Camp again."
