A gorilla permit alone costs up to USD 1,500, before you pay for a bed, meals, or transport.
Volcanoes National Park Lodge Prices 2027: Budget to Luxury range from about USD 350 per person per night at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel to USD 2,720 per adult per night at Singita Kwitonda Lodge. A gorilla permit costs USD 1,500 for most foreign visitors. Seven-day package examples range from €2,589 to €6,665 per person. Book early for your preferred 2027 trekking dates.
Volcanoes National Park lodge prices in 2027 cover a wide range of stays near Rwanda’s mountain gorilla trekking base. Published rates start at USD 350 per person per night and reach USD 2,720 per adult per night at a luxury lodge [5][7]. These prices usually describe accommodation. They do not automatically include a gorilla permit, international flights, or every transfer.
Gorilla trekking is the main reason most visitors stay near the park. The permit costs USD 1,500 for a foreign visitor, USD 500 for an East African resident, and RWF 10,000–15,000 for a Rwandan citizen [4]. That single fee makes the permit one of the largest parts of a Rwanda safari budget.
Quick answer: A 2027 lodge stay near Volcanoes National Park costs at least USD 350 per person per night from the published Five Volcanoes rate. Luxury accommodation costs USD 2,720 per adult per night at Singita Kwitonda. Add the USD 1,500 gorilla permit and transport when building your full trip budget [4][5][7].
This guide separates lodging from permits and complete packages. It also explains what you receive at each price level. Therefore, you can compare a simple room with a high-end safari lodge more fairly.
Volcanoes National Park lodge prices in 2027 range from USD 350 per person per night to USD 2,720 per adult per night in the published rates reviewed for this guide. The lower rate comes from Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel. The highest standard adult rate comes from Singita Kwitonda Lodge [5][7].
Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel lists rooms from USD 350 per person per night. Its published information says prices vary by season, with higher rates during peak or high seasons [7]. This gives travelers a clear starting point for a comfortable stay close to trekking activities.
Singita Kwitonda Lodge lists accommodation at USD 2,720 per adult per night. The published child rate is USD 1,360 per child per night [5]. These rates place the lodge in the luxury category and show why travelers should check whether meals, activities, and transfers are included.
Singita Kwitonda’s two-bedroom suite lists at USD 14,520 per night for one to four guests. The same lodge information also displays another rate of USD 10,880 for the suite [5]. Ask the lodge or your operator to confirm the exact date, occupancy, and rate basis before you pay.
A USD 350-per-person room is the lower published lodge benchmark in this research. It suits travelers who want to protect more of their budget for permits and park activities. However, “budget” near a major gorilla trekking site does not mean a low-cost holiday overall.
Accommodation is only one cost. A foreign visitor still needs the USD 1,500 gorilla permit. You may also need road transfers from Kigali, meals outside the lodge, porter services, and extra nights. Confirm every inclusion in writing before booking.
A luxury lodge provides a higher level of comfort and space near the trekking area. Singita Kwitonda’s published adult rate is USD 2,720 per night, while its two-bedroom suite can reach USD 14,520 per night for up to four guests [5]. This option suits travelers who value privacy, service, and premium surroundings.
The best choice depends on your trip goal. A trek-focused traveler may prefer a simpler room and more time in the park. A honeymoon couple may value a private suite and a slower stay. SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators who can explain these differences.
Compare 2027 Volcanoes gorilla trekking permit and package options before choosing your lodge.
A Rwanda safari costs at least USD 1,500 per person for a foreign visitor who wants gorilla trekking, before lodging and transport. Published seven-day Volcanoes National Park package examples range from €2,589 to €6,665 per person [4][8]. The final price depends on the lodge, trip length, and included services.
The gorilla permit is the fixed cost that shapes most budgets. It costs USD 1,500 for a foreign visitor, USD 500 for an East African resident, and RWF 10,000–15,000 for a Rwandan citizen [4]. Golden monkey permits are listed at USD 100–150 per visitor [4].
Permit rules also affect booking. Gorilla and golden monkey permits should be booked through the Rwanda Development Board or licensed tour operators [4]. A verified operator can help match your permit date with lodge availability and road transfers.
| Name | Price | Duration | Rating | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel | USD 350+ per person per night | Flexible stay | Not provided | Comfort-focused budget planning |
| Singita Kwitonda Lodge | USD 2,720 per adult per night | Flexible stay | Not provided | Luxury couples and premium travelers |
| Singita Kwitonda two-bedroom suite | USD 10,880–USD 14,520 per suite per night | Flexible stay | Not provided | Families or groups of up to four |
Published seven-day package examples range from €2,589 to €6,665 per person [8]. These figures help you compare complete itineraries, rather than nightly room rates alone. Check whether each quote includes the gorilla permit, accommodation, meals, guide services, vehicle, and transfers.
Currency also matters. A package quoted in euros can change in dollar value before payment. Ask for the total currency, deposit terms, cancellation rules, and permit conditions. These details reduce surprises after you reserve your trip.
Budget travelers should compare the whole trip cost, not just the cheapest room. A lower room rate may still become expensive when you add extra nights and transfers. Luxury travelers should check suite occupancy and child rates carefully, because Singita publishes separate adult and child prices [5].
Request a 2027 Rwanda safari quote matched to your budget and compare what each operator includes.
Volcanoes National Park is best known for gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking. Visitors can also build a wider Rwanda itinerary around mountain hikes, cultural visits, museums, and lake stays. Each added activity changes the length and value of your lodge booking.
Gorilla trekking is the signature experience near Volcanoes National Park. The permit costs USD 1,500 for a foreign visitor and should be arranged through the Rwanda Development Board or a licensed tour operator [4]. Your lodge location matters because early starts make a nearby base more convenient.
Kinigi gorilla trekking packages for 2027 can help you compare stays built around permit dates. Read the inclusions closely. A package that looks more expensive may include transport, meals, and the permit.
Golden monkey trekking offers a lower permit cost than gorilla trekking. Published permit information lists golden monkey permits at USD 100–150 per visitor [4]. This experience can suit travelers who want a primate trek but need to keep permit costs lower.
Mount Karisimbi gives active travelers another mountain-focused option to consider. Add extra nights when your plan includes a demanding hike. More nights increase lodging costs, but they also reduce the pressure to fit every activity into one short visit.
Iby'iwacu Cultural Village adds a cultural stop to a trekking itinerary. Meanwhile, Rubavu Beach can extend a Rwanda trip toward Lake Kivu. These additions help couples and families create a fuller itinerary around a major trek.
Volcanoes National Park is about two to three hours by road from Kigali, depending on the route and traffic [8]. Include this journey in your arrival plan. A late airport arrival may require a Kigali overnight stay before you travel north.
Transport planning also affects your lodge choice. Ask whether the quote includes airport pickup, the Kigali-to-park transfer, and return transport. Confirm the vehicle type and whether the driver-guide remains with you during the trip.
Choose your lodge by setting a total budget first, then matching the room, permit, transport, and activities to that budget. Start with your trekking date because permit availability controls the key travel day. Then request quotes that show each cost as a separate line.
Book the permit and lodge together when possible. This reduces the risk of holding a room without a matching trekking date. It also makes it easier to compare complete package prices against room-only rates.
Save every written confirmation. Keep the permit receipt, lodge name, room type, transfer plan, and payment schedule in one file. Ask the operator to state whether the quoted price applies per person, per adult, per child, or per suite.
SafariFind helps you compare verified operators, packages, and authentic traveler reviews. Use reviews to check communication, transfer timing, and how clearly an operator explains inclusions. A strong review record does not replace a written quote, but it adds useful context.
Related planning can include Mount Bisoke trekking packages and 2027 costs or a wider Kigali safari day trip. Choose additions only after your main trekking day and lodge are secure.

"I was working with a tour operator out of Kenya to plan a Uganda gorilla trek followed by a Kenya & Tanzania safari. For some reason, the Uganda portion started having issues with only a few weeks to go. Enter Brian Ahereza of GoExplore. Wow! Talk about fast acting and excellent service. Within 1 day, Brian arranged everything. The only thing that would have made my trip better is if I had added one extra day, but by this point, we couldn't squeeze it in, so Brian did the absolute best with what he had to work with. For starters, one of the best things that could have happened did! ANd that was to have Charles assigned as our driver/guide. We flew into Kigali, Rwanda and Charles met us at the airport and took us to our hotel. The next morning we got up for the long drive to the Nkoringo area of Bwindi. A lot of this drive is on some VERY difficult dirt roads and Charles was masterful at navigating the terrain. Furthermore, I was using offline Google Maps to track our location and there is no possible way I could have gotten to where Charles was going. We got to Nkoringo Lodge and immediately loved it. Brian had arranged for us to have one of only 2 rooms there that had on demand hot water. Our room overlooked Bwindi and we sat on the deck admiring the view. To get to the bar/dining area, we hiked up and over a ridge and the view from that side was south to the 3 volcanoes on the border of Uganda/Rwanda/Congo - absolutely beautiful! The next day we did the trek to the Nkuringo gorilla group. It was not a difficult trek until we had to cross a fast flowing stream because the gorillas had gone to that side and as soon as we crossed, they came back! So we did too. And then we found them and it was such a wonderful experience! My wife was standing next to me and a young male (7-8 years old??) suddenly turned and started walking towards us. My wife moved to the left, but our guide said to stand still. The gorilla walked right between us and as he passed, he stuck out his arm between my legs and grasped me around the thigh!!! OMG! Even though I could feel his amazing power, I did not feel in danger. Just as quickly, he let go and continued walking! After that amazing trek, we drove (another long day) up to Queen Elizabeth National Park and spent 2 nights at the Buffalo Safari lodge. We did a couple of games drives in which we saw lots of antelope, elephants, buffalo and 6 lions (all female, with one or two young males). We followed with a boat ride on the Kazenga channel which was fantastic. The next day, we drove to Kibale National Park to look for Chimps. We arrived at our wonderful lodge, the Chimpanzee Forest Guest House at about lunchtime and then headed to Kibale for our Chimp Trek. At lunch, we met a couple who showed us amazing pictures from their trek that very morning. Unfortunately for us, even with 7 groups in the forest, we could only find 2 chimp sand they were up in the trees. That happens in nature, but the real lesson is to take the morning trek!!! The next day, Charles drove us to Entebbe and our Uganda trip was over. One of my friends asked me about the birds in Uganda. My wife loves birds and by extension, I have come to love them as well. SHe asked Charles, our guide, about every single bird we saw. Charles had a very well worn copy of "Birds of East Africa". He didn't need that book because he had it memorized. Charles was a fantastic driver/guide/person! He made our trip incredibly special! I can't thank Brian, Charles and GoExplore enough for making this so special!!!"
