Madagascar’s 2026 conservation evidence does not document a native wild leopard population or a leopard-specific programme. Conservation priorities instead centre on protecting the island’s forests, community-managed areas and endemic wildlife while applying wider large-carnivore lessons about habitat loss, prey depletion and conflict [1][3].

A five-day South Luangwa safari starts at US$3,150, while a nine-night mobile walking trip reaches US$10,115 in 2027. [5][1]
South Luangwa walking safari prices in 2027 range from US$3,150 for a five-day park package to US$10,115 for a nine-night mobile walking safari. The best time is May through October, with July and August offering dry-season conditions. Compare verified Zambia safari packages on SafariFind before requesting a quote.
South Luangwa walking safari prices in 2027 cover a wide range of travel styles. A five-day package is listed from US$3,150. Longer mobile walking safaris cost more because they combine several camps, guided walks, and more nights in the park. [5]
South Luangwa National Park is in eastern Zambia. The park suits travelers who want more than vehicle game drives. Walking brings you closer to tracks, birds, plants, and smaller signs of wildlife. It also adds a strong sense of place.
Quick answer: A South Luangwa walking safari costs US$3,150 to US$10,115 in the 2027 examples reviewed. Choose a five-day trip for a shorter visit, or select a seven-to-nine-night mobile route for more walking and camp time. May through October is the main game-viewing season. [5][1][6]
This guide explains what each price level offers. It also compares real 2027 departures, deposits, durations, and camp plans. Prices can change with availability, room type, flights, and travel dates. Therefore, treat each figure as a planning guide rather than a guaranteed final quote.
South Luangwa walking safaris are guided wildlife trips that place walking at the center of the itinerary. A typical package combines time on foot with game drives, camp stays, and transfers. The exact mix depends on the operator, route, season, and number of nights.
Known for: South Luangwa walking safaris are known for mobile bush camps, guided walking, remote park stays, and night game drives. One listed five-day package includes four nights inside the park, a remote bushcamp, day drives, night drives, and guided safari-camp experiences. [5]
Mobile walking safaris move guests between temporary or seasonal camps. This style lets you explore different areas without returning to one lodge each night. A guide sets the pace, explains tracks, and manages distance, heat, and safety.
Fixed-camp walking trips offer a simpler routine. You sleep in one camp and take walks from that base. These trips may cost less than a long mobile route because they use fewer camp moves and transfers. Always ask what “walking safari” means in the package description.
Walking changes how you read the bush. A vehicle can cover more ground, while a walk slows the experience. You may spend time studying tracks, dung, trees, birds, and insects. Guides also explain how animals use the landscape.
Walking does not guarantee close views of large animals. Safety rules control every encounter. Your guide chooses the route and may return to the vehicle when conditions require it. This balance makes walking a skilled safari activity, not simply a hike.
Best for: South Luangwa walking safaris suit fit travelers, repeat safari guests, photographers, and people who enjoy quiet observation. They are less suitable for travelers who want a fully vehicle-based trip or a very relaxed lodge holiday.

South Luangwa walking safari prices range from US$3,150 for five days to US$10,115 for a nine-night mobile itinerary in the published examples. Longer trips cost more because they add nights, camp changes, guided walking, and extra logistics. [5][1]
Adventure Life lists a five-day South Luangwa package from US$3,150. The itinerary includes four nights inside the park, a remote bushcamp, day and night game drives, and guided camp experiences. This is a useful entry point for travelers with limited time. [5]
Dedicated walking safaris at mid-range tented camps are also estimated at about US$400 to US$600 per person per night. This estimate is not a quote for every camp. It shows why camp level and trip length have a major effect on the final total. [3]

The table shows why you should compare like with like. Some listed Safari Frank departures show a main price and a separate amount. Ask the operator what each amount covers before you pay. Confirm park fees, transfers, accommodation, meals, drinks, flights, and walking activities in writing. [1]
Compare 2027 South Luangwa walking safari packages by price, duration, and inclusions when you have a fixed budget or preferred travel month.
The strongest 2027 options depend on your preferred balance of price, walking time, camp variety, and group size. Short packages suit first-time visitors. Mobile departures suit travelers who want a deeper route. Photo safaris suit guests who value small groups and focused wildlife viewing.
Safari Frank lists a July 24, 2027 departure at US$10,115, with US$820 shown separately. The nine-night plan includes one night at Luangwa River Camp, seven nights of mobile walking, and one night at Tena Tena. This option offers the longest walking period among the listed departures. [1]
Safari Frank lists July 31 and August 10, 2027 departures at US$7,715, with US$630 shown separately. Each route includes five nights of mobile walking. The July plan uses Nkwali and Tena Tena, while the August plan uses Nkwali and Nsefu. [1]
Safari Frank lists an August 4, 2027 departure at US$9,429, with US$785 shown separately. The plan includes two nights at Nkwali, five nights of mobile walking, and two nights at Nsefu. It adds camp variety without matching the longest nine-night walking schedule. [1]
The South Luangwa photo safari running May 14–21, 2027 lasts seven nights. It starts and ends in Lusaka and accepts a maximum of six guests. The advertised rate starts at US$8,250 per person, with a US$3,500 deposit. [2]
Photographers should check the guide-to-guest ratio, vehicle access, charging points, and camera support. A small group can make hides, vehicle positions, and sightings easier to manage. However, the trip may not include the same number of mobile walking nights as a dedicated walking departure.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators. Request a quote from verified safari operators for your 2027 dates and compare the inclusions before selecting a camp route.
The best time for a South Luangwa walking safari is May through October. This period is described as the peak game-viewing season. July and August are popular planning months because they fall within this dry-season window. [6]
May offers an early dry-season option. June, July, August, September, and October continue through the main peak period. Conditions, wildlife behavior, camp schedules, and prices still vary. Ask for the exact walking dates rather than booking from a month name alone.
Walking in warm weather requires a steady pace and good hydration. Your operator should explain daily walking distance, start times, heat plans, and fitness needs. You should also ask whether the route includes rest days between longer walking sections.
Travelers who prefer Victoria Falls can add a separate Zambia stay before or after South Luangwa. SafariFind also covers Victoria Falls tours and Livingstone activities. Keep the walking safari dates clear, because extra destinations change transfer time and total cost.
Book a South Luangwa walking safari by choosing dates, setting a budget, checking inclusions, and confirming walking details. Start early for 2027, especially if you want a fixed departure in July or August. Compare the written itinerary with the final quote before paying a deposit.
Decide whether you want five days, seven nights, or nine nights. Choose between a fixed camp, mobile walking route, photo safari, or mixed itinerary. A short trip from US$3,150 may suit a first visit. A longer route from US$7,715 to US$10,115 adds more camp time and walking. [5][1]
Ask whether the quoted price includes park fees, accommodation, meals, guided walks, game drives, night drives, transfers, and flights. The listed Safari Frank departures show separate amounts of US$630, US$785, and US$820. Do not assume that a second figure is included or excluded without written confirmation. [1]
Ask how long daily walks last and what distance guests cover. Confirm the minimum age, fitness level, footwear advice, luggage limits, and medical support. Guides control the route and decide when guests should return to camp or use a vehicle.
Check every camp name and night count. The July 24 plan includes Luangwa River Camp, seven mobile walking nights, and Tena Tena. The August 4 plan includes Nkwali, mobile walking, and Nsefu. These details affect comfort, wildlife areas, and transfers. [1]
Use SafariFind to read authentic reviews and compare tour operators before making a choice. A clear quote should match the advertised itinerary, state deposit terms, and explain cancellation rules. You can also ask whether the operator can tailor the route to your walking ability.
For a wider Zambia trip, compare South Luangwa with a Kafue National Park safari cost guide or a Lower Zambezi safari route. These comparisons help you decide where to spend your limited travel days.
Pack light, neutral clothing, strong walking shoes, sun protection, and a small day bag. Your operator will set luggage rules, so request the final packing list before departure. Mobile camps often need softer bags and stricter weight limits than city hotels.
Neutral colors help you blend into the bush. Avoid noisy clothing and strong scents. Follow your guide’s instructions at all times. Walking safaris depend on group discipline, clear communication, and respect for wildlife space.
Before departure, save copies of your itinerary, insurance details, emergency contacts, and payment receipt. Confirm your arrival point in Lusaka when the itinerary starts there. The May photo safari specifically starts and ends in Lusaka, while other routes may require different connections. [2]

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."
