Akagera safari packages for 2027 range from $500 for one day to $4,500 for 10 days. [2]
A Rwanda National Park Safari: Akagera Packages & 2027 Prices guide starts with a planning range of $500-$4,500 per person. Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s main classic wildlife safari destination. A three-day mid-range trip is listed at $940. Book 2027 dates early because park accommodation is limited.
Rwanda National Park Safari: Akagera Packages & 2027 Prices planning is a clear way to compare wildlife trips in Rwanda. Akagera National Park offers the country’s main savanna safari setting. It also fits well with gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park, chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe, and time around Lake Kivu.
Rwanda is a compact destination, so a safari can combine several regions. However, each region offers a different experience. Akagera focuses on open landscapes and game viewing. Volcanoes focuses on mountain gorillas and highland scenery. Nyungwe focuses on forest walks and chimpanzee tracking.
Quick answer: A 2027 Akagera safari costs $500-$4,500 per person, based on trip length and travel style. A three-day mid-range package is listed at $940. Park entry, lodging, transport, guiding, and activities may all affect the final price. Confirm every inclusion before you pay.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic traveler reviews. You can compare trip styles, ask questions, and check what each package includes. This guide explains the known 2027 figures, practical choices, and planning steps without hiding the cost details.
Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s classic savanna safari destination. The park gives travelers a chance to plan game drives, lake-based activities, walking experiences, and overnight stays. A Rwanda National Park Safari: Akagera Packages & 2027 Prices plan can last one day or form part of a longer Rwanda circuit.
Akagera is known for combining wildlife viewing with wetlands and lakes. Lake Ihema is included in some six-day itineraries that also add chimpanzee trekking. Those itineraries start at $2,345 in the supplied 2027 planning data. [2] The trip length gives travelers more time than a single park visit.
Akagera is also useful for travelers who want variety. A short visit can suit a first safari or a family schedule. A longer visit allows more drives and a slower pace. The right plan depends on whether you want Akagera alone or a full Rwanda journey.
Akagera is best for travelers who want a classic wildlife safari without visiting several countries. It also suits visitors who want to combine savanna wildlife with Rwanda’s mountain and forest regions. An 11-day itinerary covering Kigali, Akagera, Volcanoes, Lake Kivu, and Nyungwe starts at $7,875. [6]
Volcanoes National Park is the natural add-on for visitors interested in gorilla trekking. The park sits in Rwanda’s northern highlands and offers a very different setting from Akagera. Travelers can also include Mount Karisimbi for a mountain-focused extension.
Compare Rwanda safari packages for 2027 by duration and price
Akagera matters because it adds a traditional safari experience to Rwanda’s wider travel offer. Kigali can begin or end the trip, while Rusumo Falls and Kamiranzovu Waterfall can add scenic stops on longer routes.
Rwanda also offers cultural and history-focused experiences. Iby'iwacu Cultural Village provides a possible cultural visit near Volcanoes. The Institute of National Museums of Rwanda adds another option for travelers who want context beyond wildlife.
Akagera safari packages for 2027 cost from $500 for one day to $4,500 for 10 days. The supplied planning range also lists $940 for a three-day mid-range package. These figures are per person and should be treated as planning benchmarks until an operator confirms the exact itinerary.
| Name | Price | Duration | Rating | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Akagera short safari | From $500 | 1 day | Not supplied | First-time visitors and short stays |
| Akagera mid-range safari | $940 | 3 days | Not supplied | A balanced park visit |
| Akagera and chimpanzee trekking itinerary | From $2,345 | 6 days | Not supplied | Wildlife and forest experiences |
| Akagera and gorilla trekking itinerary | From $4,067 | 6 days | Not supplied | Travelers adding gorilla trekking |
| Extended Akagera safari planning range | Up to $4,500 | 10 days | Not supplied | Longer, slower itineraries |
The six-day price changes sharply when gorilla trekking joins the plan. A six-day itinerary combining Akagera with gorilla trekking starts at $4,067. A six-day itinerary combining Akagera, chimpanzee trekking, and Lake Ihema starts at $2,345. [2] These options show why activities matter as much as hotel class.
Akagera park entry fees depend on nationality, age, and stay length. International visitors are listed at $100 per adult and $50 per child. Visitors from outside the East African Community are listed at $50 per adult and $25 per child in the supplied fee information. [4]
Ask operators whether entry appears in the advertised price. Also ask if the package covers transport from Kigali, meals, guides, game drives, boat trips, and accommodation. A low headline price may exclude one or more of these costs.
Request a quote from verified Rwanda safari operators for your 2027 budget
SafariFind helps travelers compare these details before booking. Read authentic reviews, compare tour operators, and request a written list of inclusions. That simple step makes a $940 benchmark easier to judge against the actual offer.
Akagera accommodation includes Akagera Game Lodge, Magashi Safari Camp, Ruzizi Tented Camp, Karenge Bush Camp, and dedicated camping areas. [1] These choices let travelers match comfort, setting, and budget. However, accommodation in Akagera is limited, so visitors are advised to book several months ahead. [8]
| Name | Price | Duration | Rating | Best For |

| Akagera Game Lodge | Confirm with operator | Flexible | Not supplied | Travelers seeking lodge accommodation |

These accommodation names come from supplied park information, but live room prices were not provided. Therefore, request current 2027 rates before choosing a package. Ask whether the quoted price includes a room, tent, meals, park fees, and transfers.
Kigali is a useful starting point for many Rwanda trips. Travelers can then move toward Akagera, Volcanoes, Lake Kivu, or Nyungwe. A longer itinerary covering Kigali, Akagera, Volcanoes, Lake Kivu, and Nyungwe starts at $7,875 for 11 days. [6]
A nine-day itinerary covering Volcanoes, Lake Kivu, and Nyungwe starts at $7,070. [6] This route does not list Akagera in the supplied summary, so ask whether you need a separate park extension. Clear route planning prevents rushed drives and unexpected costs.
Travelers who want a slower cultural route can add Butare or spend time in Rubavu Beach. The best plan depends on your main goal. Choose Akagera for savanna wildlife, Volcanoes for gorillas, and Nyungwe for forest activities.
Conservation also forms part of the travel choice. Read SafariFind’s guide to how safari tourism funds conservation in Rwanda before you choose an operator. Responsible travel supports local services while helping protect wildlife and habitats.
Plan an Akagera safari by setting a budget, choosing a trip length, checking inclusions, and booking accommodation early. Start with the $940 three-day mid-range benchmark. Then compare it with one-day, six-day, and 10-day options to see which plan fits your time.
Decide whether Akagera is your full safari or one part of Rwanda’s wider circuit. A one-day trip may suit a tight schedule. Three days offer a more balanced visit. Six or more days work better when you add gorilla or chimpanzee trekking.
Gorilla trekking is a separate experience from Akagera game viewing. The supplied six-day itinerary with gorilla trekking starts at $4,067. [2] If gorillas are your main goal, make Volcanoes the central part of the trip rather than treating it as a small add-on.
Use the 2027 range of $500-$4,500 per person as your first budget guide. The $500 figure covers a one-day planning point. The $4,500 figure covers a 10-day planning point. Your final quote may differ when you choose lodging, transport, meals, and added activities.
International visitors should also allow for the listed Akagera entry fee of $100 per adult and $50 per child. [4] Confirm the fee category that applies to you. Ask the operator to show park fees as a separate line in the quotation.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic reviews. Compare the vehicle plan, guide service, lodging, and cancellation terms. A package with a higher price may offer a private vehicle or better location, while a lower price may use shared transport.
Read reviews with a clear question in mind: did the operator deliver what the package promised? Look for comments about communication, timing, food, rooms, and guide knowledge. Then request a quote that matches the exact dates and group size.
Book several months ahead because Akagera accommodation is limited. [8] Early planning is especially useful for 2027 travel during busy periods. Keep written proof of the price, inclusions, deposits, and refund terms.
Use a simple checklist before payment:
Families can also consider adding Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary if it fits the route and operator plan. Ask for the extra cost rather than assuming it is included. Good planning keeps the trip simple and protects your 2027 budget.
A Rwanda National Park Safari focused on Akagera costs from $500 for one day to $4,500 for 10 days in the supplied 2027 planning range. A three-day mid-range package is listed at $940. The final price depends on lodging, transport, park fees, meals, and activities. [2]
Gorilla trekking is a separate Rwanda experience from an Akagera game drive. A supplied six-day itinerary combining Akagera with gorilla trekking starts at $4,067. The figure is a package starting price, so confirm the permit, transport, accommodation, and other inclusions with the operator. [2]
Akagera National Park entry is listed at $100 per international adult and $50 per international child. Visitors from outside the East African Community are listed at $50 per adult and $25 per child. Confirm the correct category and whether your package includes the fee. [4]
Three days is a practical starting point for an Akagera safari because the supplied mid-range benchmark covers three days at $940. One day suits a short visit, while longer trips work better when you add other Rwanda parks or trekking activities. [2]
Akagera accommodation options include Akagera Game Lodge, Magashi Safari Camp, Ruzizi Tented Camp, Karenge Bush Camp, and dedicated camping areas. Availability is limited, so visitors are advised to book several months ahead. Confirm the 2027 room type and price before paying. [1] [8]
You can use SafariFind to compare verified tour operators, review authentic traveler feedback, and request a quote for your dates. Ask each operator for a complete list of park fees, lodging, activities, transport, and meals before choosing a Rwanda safari package.

"I was working with a tour operator out of Kenya to plan a Uganda gorilla trek followed by a Kenya & Tanzania safari. For some reason, the Uganda portion started having issues with only a few weeks to go. Enter Brian Ahereza of GoExplore. Wow! Talk about fast acting and excellent service. Within 1 day, Brian arranged everything. The only thing that would have made my trip better is if I had added one extra day, but by this point, we couldn't squeeze it in, so Brian did the absolute best with what he had to work with. For starters, one of the best things that could have happened did! ANd that was to have Charles assigned as our driver/guide. We flew into Kigali, Rwanda and Charles met us at the airport and took us to our hotel. The next morning we got up for the long drive to the Nkoringo area of Bwindi. A lot of this drive is on some VERY difficult dirt roads and Charles was masterful at navigating the terrain. Furthermore, I was using offline Google Maps to track our location and there is no possible way I could have gotten to where Charles was going. We got to Nkoringo Lodge and immediately loved it. Brian had arranged for us to have one of only 2 rooms there that had on demand hot water. Our room overlooked Bwindi and we sat on the deck admiring the view. To get to the bar/dining area, we hiked up and over a ridge and the view from that side was south to the 3 volcanoes on the border of Uganda/Rwanda/Congo - absolutely beautiful! The next day we did the trek to the Nkuringo gorilla group. It was not a difficult trek until we had to cross a fast flowing stream because the gorillas had gone to that side and as soon as we crossed, they came back! So we did too. And then we found them and it was such a wonderful experience! My wife was standing next to me and a young male (7-8 years old??) suddenly turned and started walking towards us. My wife moved to the left, but our guide said to stand still. The gorilla walked right between us and as he passed, he stuck out his arm between my legs and grasped me around the thigh!!! OMG! Even though I could feel his amazing power, I did not feel in danger. Just as quickly, he let go and continued walking! After that amazing trek, we drove (another long day) up to Queen Elizabeth National Park and spent 2 nights at the Buffalo Safari lodge. We did a couple of games drives in which we saw lots of antelope, elephants, buffalo and 6 lions (all female, with one or two young males). We followed with a boat ride on the Kazenga channel which was fantastic. The next day, we drove to Kibale National Park to look for Chimps. We arrived at our wonderful lodge, the Chimpanzee Forest Guest House at about lunchtime and then headed to Kibale for our Chimp Trek. At lunch, we met a couple who showed us amazing pictures from their trek that very morning. Unfortunately for us, even with 7 groups in the forest, we could only find 2 chimp sand they were up in the trees. That happens in nature, but the real lesson is to take the morning trek!!! The next day, Charles drove us to Entebbe and our Uganda trip was over. One of my friends asked me about the birds in Uganda. My wife loves birds and by extension, I have come to love them as well. SHe asked Charles, our guide, about every single bird we saw. Charles had a very well worn copy of "Birds of East Africa". He didn't need that book because he had it memorized. Charles was a fantastic driver/guide/person! He made our trip incredibly special! I can't thank Brian, Charles and GoExplore enough for making this so special!!!"
