Namibia Safari Cost 2027: What First-Timers Pay Per Day usually falls between $160 and $700 per person, depending on transport, lodging, meals, and guiding. Budget travelers can use self-drive or camping plans, while luxury lodge trips can reach $3,100 per person per day. Choose 2027 dates after checking route costs and availability.
Namibia Safari Cost 2027: What First-Timers Pay Per Day depends more on travel style than on the country alone. A self-drive trip can cost about $160 to $275 per person each day. A mid-range safari often costs $300 to $700. Luxury lodges can reach $900 to $3,100 per person per day. [3]
Namibia is a strong choice for first-time safari travelers who want open roads and flexible routes. You can drive between desert sights, wildlife areas, and coastal towns. You can also book a guided trip and leave the long distances to someone else.
This guide uses current 2026 research to help you plan for 2027. It explains daily prices, sample budgets, hidden cost risks, and the trade-off between driving yourself and booking a package. It does not pretend every trip costs the same. Namibia rewards careful planning, especially when your route covers large distances.
Quick answer: A first-time Namibia safari costs about $160 to $700 per person per day for self-drive and mid-range travel. Budget camping can reduce the daily rate, while luxury lodge stays can exceed $900. A 14-day self-drive trip often starts near $5,000 per person, excluding international flights. [3]
Namibia safari cost in 2027 is about $160 to $700 per person per day for the most common travel styles. Self-drive trips sit near the lower end. Mid-range guided safaris sit higher. Luxury lodge journeys can cost $900 to $3,100 daily. [3]
| Travel style | Daily price per person | What it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Budget camping | About $150 and up | Travelers who value lower costs and outdoor nights |
| Self-drive safari | $160 to $275 | Independent travelers and small groups |
| Mid-range safari | $300 to $700 | Travelers who want lodges or guided camps |
| Luxury lodge safari | $900 to $3,100 | Guests seeking high-end stays and fly-in travel |
Self-drive safaris are often the clearest way to control Namibia safari cost. You choose the vehicle, campsite, route, and meal plan. However, the lowest daily figure usually excludes some costs. Fuel and food can sit outside the headline price, along with some activities and personal spending.
A 4x4 camper with rooftop tents and an Etosha Okaukuejo campsite was estimated at about $162 per person per day for two travelers in September 2026. That figure came before fuel and food. Shared by four travelers, the same example fell to about $107 per person per day before fuel and food. [3]
Group size has a direct effect on vehicle and campsite costs. Two travelers split a rental vehicle between two people. Four travelers split the same base cost more widely. That is why a four-person self-drive trip can cost much less per person than a two-person trip.
Camping also changes the math. A rooftop tent can combine transport and sleeping space. A lodge trip pays for a room each night, often with meals and services added. Neither option is automatically better. The right choice depends on how much driving, planning, and comfort you want.
For a broader desert route, you may want to compare the costs in this guide with the 5-day Namibia safari itinerary and cost guide. A short trip may show a higher daily price because vehicle hire and transfers cover fewer days.
Compare verified Namibia safari packages for 2027 and review the route, inclusions, and traveler feedback before choosing a daily budget.
A safari in Namibia costs about $160 to $700 per person per day for self-drive and mid-range travel. Luxury lodges cost about $900 to $3,100 per person per day. A budget tour can cost around $290 per person per day when camping, meals, park fees, and activities are included. [3] [4]
Namibia safari cost is easier to judge when you separate included items from excluded items. A guided package may include accommodation, meals, game drives, park fees, and road transfers. A self-drive quote may cover only the vehicle, camping equipment, and selected campsites.
One advertised 12-day budget tour costs about $290 per person per day. It includes camping, one hotel night, game drives, guided tours, park fees, and most meals. [4] That example helps show why a package price can look higher than a simple rental car estimate. The package bundles services that self-drive travelers must arrange themselves.
| Trip example | Daily cost | Main cost lesson |
|---|---|---|
| Two-person 4x4 camper trip | About $162 before fuel and food | Sharing a vehicle helps, but extras remain |
| Four-person 4x4 camper trip | About $107 before fuel and food | A larger group spreads vehicle costs |
| 12-day budget tour | About $290 | Camping and guided services can be bundled |
| 14-day self-drive safari | About $5,000 total per person | Longer trips spread fixed costs across more days |
The 14-day self-drive figure often starts near $5,000 per person, excluding international flights. [3] That total equals roughly $357 per day across 14 days. It is not a promise of a final quote. It is a useful planning marker for travelers who want a longer route with more than one major region.
When comparing quotes, check whether the daily price includes fuel, park fees, meals, camping gear, and activities. Ask for the full trip total as well as the per-day rate. That simple step can prevent a low daily price from hiding a much higher final bill.

Namibia is good for safari when you want wildlife viewing combined with desert roads, open landscapes, and flexible travel. Its self-drive price range of $160 to $275 per person per day gives independent travelers a way to manage costs. Guided and lodge trips offer more support at higher daily rates. [3]
Etosha is a key stop for first-time visitors who want a wildlife-focused route. A trip can also include desert areas such as Deadvlei, the Naukluft Mountains, or the coastal town of Lüderitz. Each added region increases driving time, so route design affects both price and comfort.
Namibia is also a good fit for travelers who want choices. You can camp beside a national park, stay in a lodge, or combine both. You can drive the main route yourself or use a guided tour. The budget changes with every decision.
Etosha routes focus on wildlife and game drives. The Etosha National Park package guide can help first-timers compare stays and activities. A night drive may also add a separate charge, so read the inclusions before you book.
The desert route brings different costs. Deadvlei safari packages combine long road sections with guided desert visits. A coastal plan may include Swakopmund or Namibia beach towns. These routes can make a trip feel varied, but extra transfers and nights raise the total.
For travelers interested in wildlife beyond the main parks, the Cheetah Conservation Fund offers a different type of visit. The Buffalo Core Area, Brandberg, and Terrace Bay can also shape a route, though each stop needs careful distance planning.
Is Namibia good for safari? Yes, if you accept long drives and want control over your route. It is less suitable if you want a compact park with short transfers between camps. First-timers should compare driving hours before comparing hotel photos. A cheaper route that leaves you tired every day may not feel like good value.
First-timers should build Namibia safari cost from the full trip total, then divide it by the number of days. Start with transport and accommodation. Add food, fuel, park fees, and activities. This method gives a more honest daily figure than using a package headline alone.
Pick self-drive, guided group travel, or a private lodge trip. Self-drive works well for travelers who enjoy planning and long road days. A group tour can reduce the work and spread some costs. A luxury lodge route offers comfort but has the highest daily price.
Use $160 to $275 per person per day for a self-drive starting point. Use $300 to $700 for a mid-range plan. Use $900 to $3,100 for luxury lodges. These are research-based planning ranges for 2027, not fixed quotes. [3]
Then add a separate allowance for costs outside the headline. The September 2026 camper example excluded fuel and food. [3] The same issue can affect tours when drinks, optional visits, tips, or personal items sit outside the package.
Put every overnight stop on a map. Include Etosha, desert stops, coastal towns, and southern attractions only when the driving time works. A route that covers too much ground can add fuel, extra nights, and stress.
Consider a shorter route if you have less than one week. Consider 12 to 14 days if you want to combine wildlife, desert, and coast. A longer trip can spread fixed vehicle costs across more days, but it still adds food, fuel, and accommodation.
Namibia safari cost also depends on who shares the trip. A two-person quote and a four-person quote can show very different daily prices. Ask for both the per-person figure and the total vehicle cost when comparing self-drive options.
Finally, read authentic reviews before you decide. SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators, so you can compare route details and past traveler feedback instead of judging a package by price alone.
A safari in Namibia costs about $160 to $700 per person per day for self-drive and mid-range travel. Luxury lodge safaris cost about $900 to $3,100 per person per day. A budget tour may cost around $290 per day when camping, meals, park fees, and activities are included. [3] [4]
Namibia is good for safari if you want wildlife, desert scenery, and flexible self-drive routes. Self-drive prices of about $160 to $275 per person per day suit independent travelers. Guided and luxury trips cost more but reduce planning and driving work. [3]
Namibia is moderately expensive for a safari, with common daily costs between $160 and $700 per person. Camping and shared vehicles lower the price. Mid-range lodges and guided services raise it, while luxury lodge trips can reach $3,100 per person per day. [3]
A 14-day self-drive safari often starts near $5,000 per person, excluding international flights. The final total depends on vehicle sharing, accommodation, fuel, food, park fees, and activities. A longer trip can spread vehicle costs across more days, but it adds daily living costs too. [3]
The cheapest common option is a shared self-drive trip with camping. Research places this style near $160 to $275 per person per day, while one four-person camper example reached about $107 before fuel and food. Group camping tours can also lower costs by sharing transport and services. [3]

"Tongesai was recommended to me by a friend who also booked his amazing safari through Cultural Vibes; I am glad we took his recommendation. Our safari across Victoria Falls and Botswana was top notch. Tongesai booked us in all of the best camps and with the best safari outfitters. Our excursions were extremely well planned and full of excitement. The restaurants were fantastic as well. Personally, I love planning my own vacations but honestly don't think there is an easy and reliable way to plan an African safari without using a travel agent very familiar with the region. Located in Zimbabwe and with a travel and tourism background, Tongesai was able to coordinate our stays between 5 safari camps which included private charter flights across the regions. He also personally escorted us into Botswana and helped with border crossing which was very helpful as well. Compared to larger companies, Tongesai's package rates were more reasonable and came with a customized touch. I highly recommend Cultural Vibes to anyone looking to go on safari in Zimbabwe and its bordering countries (Botswana, Zambia & Namibia). Thanks, T!"
"We were amazing group of 4 adults from Atlanta USA. Upon arrival we found our guide Stuart Muronga already waiting for us. He picked us up in a well air-conditioned vehicle and offered us water at soft drinks. Before going to check in we drove around the beautiful city . After checking in he dropped us off at the famous Boma restaurant..we had an amazing experience there over delicious meals and drums and dance. He picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel. The next morning he picked us up for out safari experience in Chobe which is in Botswana just an hour drive from Vic Falls. We spent 6 hrs there then drove another 40 or so minutes to some island in Namibia. Stuart was so knowledgeable with great communication skills which made the whole experience so smooth and fun."
"I would like to note an excellent organisation of this tour. In advance Kubwa Five Safaris created whats app groupe for me so I had contacts of people who assisted me during my travel. I was picked up at the airport. My guide was waiting for me. The accommodations chosen for this trip were correct, clean with good service. The choice of restaurants corresponded the rate of this tour. We visited wonderfull places with beautiful landscapes, I enjoyed game drive and visit of Etosha parc. My driver was a professional guide, so I had explanations on historical events, culture, geology, flore and faune of the sites that we visited. Kubwa Five Safaris chose reliable partners in Namibia, that made my trip safe and I would like to thank them for that."
"We planned a 10 day tour to see the best of namibia we personalised the tour to what we wanted to see.we had an issue with our flight but Sylvia replanned the tour on 9 days so we missed nothing very very appreciated since it wasn't their responsibility and could have simply made us skip the first day.the tour was fantastic we got to see everything we wanted to see. Wildlife and the landscape that are something of incredible. Our guide John was excellent 👏 really very prepared giving al the info of the diffrent places people, Wildlife towns...."
"Our trip around Namibia was booked through Kubwa Five Safaris, main contact was Sylvia (from their sister company Ompo Travel). Everything was organised perfectly, Sylvia listened to our needs and constantly adapted the trip according to our (many) changes of mind, to ensure we could get the best out of it, both in terms of things to do and accommodations where to stay; but she also added her local know-how to advise our decisions on what really worth seeing and what to skip (given the limited time of two weeks). She was also very responsive, both prior the trip as well as during the trip, taking immediate action if needed (only once, due to a misunderstanding on the check-out from a lodge). Namibia is an amazing place with plenty of wilderness and photo opportunities, and we have enjoyed it fully!"
