Luangwa Valley walking safari packages in 2027 cost about US$200 to US$600 per person per night in South Luangwa National Park. A five-day budget trip costs about US$1,625 to US$2,200, while luxury trips cost US$5,000 to US$8,250 or more. May to October is the best season for wildlife walks, with May, June, September, and October often offering better value.
South Luangwa walking safari packages give you a close view of Zambia's bush on foot, often with a trained guide and an armed scout. The experience feels slower than a game drive. You notice tracks, calls, plants, wind, and small movements that are easy to miss from a vehicle.
Luangwa Valley Walking Safari Packages 2027: Prices depend on camp style, season, trip length, and the level of guiding. Budget camps begin near US$200 per person per night. Mid-range tented camps often cost US$400 to US$600. Luxury mobile camps and specialist photo trips sit much higher [1][4].
South Luangwa National Park is the main setting for these trips. It is known for walking safaris, leopard sightings, experienced guides, and small bush camps [1]. This guide explains what the prices include, how to choose a package, and how to plan for 2027 without guessing about costs.
Quick answer: A five-day South Luangwa walking safari costs about US$1,625 to US$2,200 in the budget range. A mid-range trip often costs US$2,000 to US$3,000. Luxury trips cost US$5,000 to US$8,250 or more. May to October gives the best walking and wildlife conditions.
Luangwa Valley walking safari packages are guided trips that place walking at the centre of the safari. Most include camp accommodation, meals, daily walks, and some transfers. The exact plan differs by operator, but dedicated packages often combine a lodge night with several nights in a mobile bush camp.
South Luangwa National Park covers a large wildlife area in eastern Zambia. Walking trips use routes near camp, seasonal animal paths, and open woodland. Guides read tracks and signs before choosing the safest route. You usually walk in the cooler morning hours, then rest during the heat.
A walking safari is different from a short bush walk added to a lodge stay. A short walk may last a few hours and cost an extra US$50 to US$150. A dedicated walking trip uses several days and focuses on time in the bush [4]. That difference explains the higher package price.
South Luangwa is known for professional guides and close encounters with wildlife. Guides manage distance and wind direction with care. The aim is not to chase animals. The aim is to watch their behaviour while keeping a safe route for people and wildlife.
Most walking safari packages include a set of core services. Check each item before you compare two prices. A lower nightly rate may leave out flights, park fees, or transfers.
Known for: South Luangwa is known for walking safaris, leopard viewing, and small camp experiences [1]. Best for: The area suits travelers who want active days, natural history, and fewer hours inside a vehicle. It also suits photographers who want time to wait quietly in one place.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic reviews. Compare 2027 Luangwa walking safari packages and request quotes before you choose a camp or route.
Walking changes the way you see the valley. A vehicle can cover more ground, but a walk lets you study fresh tracks and animal signs. You may spend several minutes examining a tree, dung pile, feather, or footprint. That slower pace is the point.
Walking also brings limits. Guides may change a route when animals block a path. Heavy rain can affect tracks and roads. The dry season makes walking easier, but the bush can feel hot and dusty. You should expect early starts, steady walking, and basic camp conditions on mobile trips.
Luangwa Valley walking safari packages cost about US$200 to US$600 per person per night for standard South Luangwa trips in 2027. Budget packages usually cost US$200 to US$300. Mid-range trips cost US$350 to US$500. Luxury safaris cost more than US$600 per night [1].
| Package level | Nightly price | Five-day estimate | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | US$200 to US$300 | US$1,625 to US$2,200 | Travelers seeking a lower-cost walking trip |
| Mid-range | US$350 to US$500 | About US$2,000 to US$3,000 | Couples and small groups wanting comfort |
| Luxury | More than US$600 | US$5,000 to US$8,250 or more | Private, high-comfort, and specialist trips |
The five-day budget estimate includes the way operators often price a full safari. It does not mean that every five-night stay uses the same number of chargeable days. Ask whether the quote includes airport transfers, domestic flights, park fees, drinks, and activities.
A dedicated mid-range walking safari in a tented camp is estimated at about US$400 to US$600 per person per night, all-inclusive [4]. This level often gives you a stronger camp setup, full meals, guided walks, and game drives. The price rises when the camp uses a small guest limit or moves between sites.
A seven-night South Luangwa photographic safari starting on September 17, 2027, is advertised from US$9,075 per person. The trip has a maximum of six guests and requires a US$3,500 deposit [5]. This is a specialist product, so its price is higher than a standard walking safari.
South Luangwa holiday listings for 2026 and 2027 include a nine-night option from £6,260 per person. Another nine-night walking safari listing starts at £5,740 per person [6]. These longer trips show how total prices rise when they include more nights, transfers, guiding, and accommodation.
A separate Luangwa mobile walking safari listing shows an August 10, 2027 departure with figures of 7,715 and 630 [2]. The listing does not define the currencies or explain what each figure represents, so treat it as a date-specific listing detail rather than a direct price comparison.
South Luangwa park entry is listed at US$25 per person per day in a Zambia safari pricing guide [7]. Accommodation prices range from a US$15 campsite to US$1,840 per person per night at Time + Tide Chinzombo [7]. A Flatdogs Camp package is listed at US$471 with meals, two activities, and park fees [7].
Price range: Most travelers should plan around US$2,000 to US$3,000 for a five-day mid-range trip. A specialist photo safari can cost more than US$9,000 for seven nights. Compare verified operators for your 2027 budget and read authentic traveler reviews.
Book your Luangwa Valley walking safari for May to October if wildlife viewing and dry walking routes matter most. May, June, September, and October often offer prices 10% to 20% below peak-season rates, according to SafariFind [1]. August and September also suit travelers who want a fixed 2027 departure.
May starts the dry season. Water becomes less spread across the park, and animals gather near rivers and remaining pools. June brings cooler mornings and firm paths. These months can offer a good balance between conditions and price.
July and August are popular because the bush is dry and wildlife is easier to spot. Demand can push rates higher. September and October bring hot days, but they can offer strong viewing and better value than peak months [1]. You need to handle heat well during late-season walks.
Known for: The dry season is known for clear tracks, open vegetation, and better wildlife viewing. Best time to visit: May, June, September, and October are useful value months. Ask the operator how many hours you will walk each day and when the walks start.
A three-night trip suits first-time safari travelers with limited time. A five-night trip gives you more chances to walk in different areas and learn the guide's style. Seven to nine nights suit photographers and travelers who want a slower trip with more time in camp.
Getting there: Many international routes connect through Lusaka before you continue to South Luangwa. Some specialist trips start at Lusaka's airport, including the September 2027 photographic safari [5]. You can learn more about stopovers with this guide to Lusaka in 2027 and its day trips.
Zambia offers other safari areas if you want to extend the trip. Victoria Falls works well for travelers who want to add a major waterfall visit. The Lower Zambezi safari itinerary for 2027 is another useful comparison when you are choosing between walking and river-based activities.
Use light, dull-coloured clothing and strong walking shoes. A wide hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a small day pack matter more than heavy luggage. Bring a refillable water bottle, binoculars, a camera, and a light layer for cool mornings.
Follow the guide's instructions at all times. Do not run, call wildlife, or move ahead of the group. Walking safaris rely on calm behaviour, clear spacing, and fast response when conditions change.

Read reviews for details about guide skill, walking pace, camp comfort, food, and airport transfers. A high price does not always match your travel style. A simple mobile camp may suit you better than a luxury lodge if walking time is your main goal.

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."
