Ethiopia remains a major stronghold for Africa’s threatened vultures, but poisoning, habitat change, unsafe food sources and weak mortality reporting continue to undermine populations. Conservation priorities include ranger training, coordinated monitoring, anti-poisoning action and protection of highland and Afar habitats.

Liuwa Plain National Park sits in western Zambia. It suits travelers who want wide landscapes, a quieter safari setting, and flexible travel styles. You can choose a high-end lodge, a self-sufficient campsite, or a longer overland route.
Quick answer: The clearest 2027 lodge price is US$1,205 per person per night at King Lewanika Lodge. The rate applies from 1 March through 31 December 2027 and includes meals and selected beverages. Community camping costs less, but daily park and vehicle fees apply. [Source 2] [Source 8]
This guide explains the published rates, what each package style includes, and how to plan your booking. It also separates confirmed prices from costs that require a quote. That distinction matters because Liuwa Plain has fewer published package rates than larger safari parks.
Liuwa Plain safari packages are trips built around stays or tours in Liuwa Plain National Park. In 2027, published choices range from community camping to fully inclusive luxury lodge stays and multi-country overland tours. The main price point is US$1,205 per person per night at King Lewanika Lodge. [Source 1] [Source 2]
Liuwa Plain National Park is best known in the available tour material for its open plains and wildebeest migration setting. Bushtracks presents Liuwa Plain as one part of a 10-day, 9-night Explorer Safari that also includes Livingstone and Lower Zambezi. [Source 7]
Known for: open grassland scenery, a remote feel, and a safari experience linked with Zambia’s wildebeest plains. [Source 7] [Source 8] Best for: travelers who value space, fewer crowds, and a less common Zambia itinerary.
The park also works well within a wider Zambia route. You can pair it with Victoria Falls, the river landscapes of Lower Zambezi, or other Zambia safari areas. Travelers comparing routes can also review the Zambia safari tours guide for 2027.
Liuwa Plain matters because it gives you more than one way to travel. A lodge package reduces planning work. Camping lowers the base accommodation cost. An overland route adds more countries and travel days. Your best choice depends on comfort, time, and how much support you want.
Compare Liuwa Plain safari packages and request a 2027 quote
The main Liuwa Plain safari prices fall into three groups: luxury lodge stays, community camping, and longer guided tours. The lodge rate is the clearest per-night figure. Camping has a lower accommodation price but adds daily park costs. Overland tours show route prices, though the available listings do not give enough detail to compare inclusions directly.

King Lewanika Lodge lists a 2027 rate of US$1,205 per person sharing. The published period runs from 1 March through 31 December 2027. The fully inclusive basis covers all meals and selected beverages. [Source 2]
Ker & Downey describes its Liuwa Plain safari tents as spacious luxury tents designed around views of the plain. [Source 1] This option suits guests who want comfort, guided safari support, and simple budgeting. You still need to confirm transfers, activities, and any extra charges before paying.
Community-run Liuwa Plain campsites start at US$40 per person. Campers also pay a US$40 daily park entrance fee per person and a US$15 daily vehicle-entry fee. [Source 8] These charges make the total higher than the campsite price alone.
Four of the five reported community campsites have flush toilets, hot showers, and camp attendants. [Source 8] However, the camping model requires more self-sufficiency and camping gear. SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic traveler reviews. Use the marketplace to compare what each quote includes. A low headline price may not cover transport, meals, permits, or equipment.
Start by choosing your travel style, dates, and route length. Then request a quote that separates accommodation, park fees, transport, meals, and activities. For 2027, book early for lodge stays because the clearest published rate covers a fixed period from March through December. [Source 2]
BookAllSafaris lists two curated Liuwa Plain game-park safari packages. Its booking-date options include January and February 2027. [Source 3] This makes the listing useful when your travel dates fall outside the lodge rate shown by Go2Africa.
Use the same questions for every operator. Ask for a day-by-day plan and a line-by-line price. This approach makes a lodge stay easier to compare with an overland tour or a camping package.
A 10-day Bushtracks itinerary combines Livingstone, Liuwa Plain, and Lower Zambezi. The itinerary lasts 10 days and 9 nights and is marketed as an Explorer Safari for 2027. [Source 7] This route suits travelers who want a planned journey rather than a single-park stay.
Travelers with extra time can compare published 16-day and 22-day overland tours. African Overland Tours lists a 16-day Zambia and Malawi Safari Explorer from R3,750. It lists a 22-day Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique Tour from R3,150. [Source 4]
These prices use South African rand and need careful confirmation. The available listing does not provide enough detail about inclusions, room type, or Liuwa Plain nights. Therefore, request a complete quote before treating either figure as your final trip cost.
For nearby planning ideas, read the guide to Lusaka safari day trips in 2027. You can also compare a longer South Luangwa walking safari if you want to add a different style of Zambia wildlife experience.
Pack light, practical clothing and reliable camping gear when your package requires self-sufficiency. Lodge guests should still ask about luggage limits, laundry, weather needs, and transfer arrangements. Your operator should provide the final packing list because equipment rules differ between lodge and camping trips.

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."
