Kigali day trips and safari packages 2027: prices and booking options range from short gorilla excursions to luxury Rwanda journeys. A 1-day gorilla trek starts and ends in Kigali, while listed multi-day packages include US$6,500 per couple for 7 nights and US$8,449 per person for an 11-day July tour. June to September and December to January are listed as strong seasons for a luxury trip.
Rwanda is small enough for a city break and a mountain gorilla trek to fit into one trip. That is why Kigali day trips and safari packages 2027: prices and booking questions matter so much. Your choice affects travel time, permit costs, hotel nights, and the number of parks you can visit.
Kigali is the main starting point for many Rwanda journeys. A short trip can take you from the capital to Volcanoes National Park and back in one day. A longer plan can add Lake Kivu, Nyungwe Forest, or a Big Five safari. Listed prices show a wide spread, from short custom trips to luxury journeys priced at US$14,000 per couple. [2][3]
The key decision is simple. Do you want one strong experience, or do you want several regions in one holiday? A one-day gorilla itinerary saves hotel nights. A 7-night package gives you more time for rest and extra stops. An 11-day tour creates room for culture, wildlife, and slower travel. [2][4]
This guide explains what each trip type includes, how listed prices compare, and what to check before booking for 2027. It also points you toward SafariFind, where you can compare verified operators, read traveler reviews, and request a plan that fits your dates.
Quick answer: Kigali day trips suit travelers with limited time, while safari packages suit visitors who want more than one region. A one-day gorilla trek runs from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park and back. Listed longer trips include US$6,500 per couple for 7 nights and US$8,449 per person for 11 days. [2][3][4]
Kigali day trips are short excursions that begin and end in Rwanda’s capital. Safari packages last longer and combine transport, lodging, park visits, trekking, or cultural stops. In 2027, listed options include a one-day gorilla trek, a 2-day gorilla tour, a 7-night luxury route, and an 11-day Rwanda tour. [2][3][4]
The 1-day gorilla trekking itinerary is built for travelers with limited time. Seek Wild Africa lists a route from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park and back on the same day. This plan keeps the schedule tight, so early departure and clear transport arrangements matter. [2]
The 2-day gorilla trekking itinerary adds an overnight stay near Volcanoes National Park. That extra night reduces the need to return to Kigali after trekking. It also gives you a better buffer if road delays or a long forest walk affect the day. [2]
The 7-night luxury package follows a broader route. It includes one night in Kigali, two nights near Volcanoes National Park, and two nights at Lake Kivu. The package also lists an optional two nights in Nyungwe Forest. [3]
The 11-day tour departs in July 2027 and is listed at US$8,449 per person. Its route begins and ends in Kigali. This format suits travelers who want a longer Rwanda stay rather than a single park visit. [4]
Volcanoes National Park is the main base for mountain gorilla trekking in these itineraries. The experience is physical. Harvard Alumni says trekking conditions may be strenuous, and visitors spend a maximum of one hour with the gorillas. Pack suitable equipment and prepare for steep, wet forest paths. [1]
Rwanda’s compact size makes route planning easier, but it does not remove the need for good timing. A day trip has less room for delays. A longer safari gives you more space for rest, weather changes, and extra activities.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators who can explain the route before you book. Explore Rwanda safari packages with clear trip details and booking options.
Listed Rwanda safari prices in 2027 range from a 7-night luxury package at US$6,500 per couple to an 11-day tour at US$8,449 per person. A luxury package that combines Bisate Lodge and lake-island experiences starts at US$14,000 per couple. These figures are listed package prices, so check what each operator includes. [3][4]
| Trip type | Duration | Listed price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gorilla trekking trip from Kigali | 1 day | Listed itinerary | Travelers with limited time |
| Gorilla trekking tour from Kigali | 2 days | Listed itinerary | Travelers wanting one night near the park |
| Luxury Rwanda package | 7 nights | US$6,500 per couple | Couples seeking Kigali, Volcanoes, and Lake Kivu |
| Rwanda tour departing in July | 11 days | US$8,449 per person | Travelers planning a longer country tour |
| Bisate Lodge and lake-island experience | Package listing | US$14,000 per couple | Luxury travelers seeking premium stays |
The 7-night price includes a gorilla permit listed at US$1,500 per person. That figure matters because the permit forms a large part of the trip cost. Ask for a written breakdown of the permit, hotels, meals, transport, park fees, and guide service. [3]
Luxury travel is not always the best fit. A short gorilla trip may work better if you have only one free day. A 2-day plan can be a practical middle choice because it adds one night near the park without creating an 11-day holiday.
The advertised US$6,500 price is per couple, while the US$8,449 price is per person. Do not compare these numbers without adjusting the traveler count. Room type, permit status, season, and included activities can also change the final cost.
SafariFind helps you compare prices without relying on one headline figure. Compare verified Rwanda tour operators and request quotes for your 2027 dates.
Use the detailed Rwanda safari lodge costs guide when you compare room levels. For Akagera plans, the Akagera safari cost guide gives a useful next step for building a wider Rwanda budget.
Start by choosing the experience that matters most. Select a 1-day gorilla trip for a tight schedule, a 2-day trek for more breathing room, or a multi-day safari for several regions. Then confirm the permit, route, hotel nights, transport, and 2027 departure date in writing.
Kigali is the start and end point for the listed 1-day and 2-day gorilla itineraries. The one-day route returns to Kigali after the park visit. The two-day route sleeps near Volcanoes National Park, which reduces the pressure of returning to the city after trekking. [2]
Keep your first day simple if you land in Kigali that morning. Build in time for airport arrival, luggage, meals, and a briefing. A night in the city can make the next morning easier, especially when your tour starts before sunrise.
Visitors who prefer city time can explore [Kigali](/destinations/kigali) before or after a safari. A longer city stay can include the Institute of National Museums of Rwanda, which has its own museum destination page. Cultural stops add context before you enter the forest.
Volcanoes National Park is the clearest choice for gorilla trekking. Travelers seeking a wider route can add Lake Kivu, Nyungwe Forest, or another wildlife area. The listed luxury route includes Lake Kivu and offers an optional Nyungwe Forest stay. [3]
Lake Kivu works well after a demanding trek because it changes the pace. Nyungwe Forest suits visitors who want more forest time and primate experiences. Akagera National Park suits travelers who want a Big Five safari. Read the Akagera tour price guide before adding that park to your plan.
Rwanda also has shorter cultural and nature outings. [Butare](/destinations/butare), [Rusumo Falls](/destinations/rusumo-falls), and [Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary](/destinations/ziwa-rhino-sanctuary) can help fill a route that does not focus only on gorillas. Each extra stop needs travel time, so avoid packing too many sites into one day.
The forest walk can be strenuous, according to Harvard Alumni. A sturdy daypack, waterproof layers, walking shoes, and suitable outdoor clothing are sensible choices. Your guide or operator should provide the final packing list for your route. [1]
January 2027 travelers can also look for flexible daily departures. Africa Natural Safaris lists Rwanda options with daily departures in January 2027 and packages aimed at different budgets. [5]
For a longer route, compare it with the 7-day Rwanda safari itinerary. It can help you decide whether seven nights gives enough time for your preferred parks and rest days.
The listed 7-night luxury package names June to September and December to January as its best seasons. Book around your preferred dates rather than choosing a season alone. Permit space, room type, and departure schedules still shape the trip. [3]
June to September fits travelers who want the package’s named high-season window. December to January suits visitors who want a year-end or early-year journey. January 2027 also has listed daily departure options from Africa Natural Safaris. [3][5]
July 2027 is another clear booking point because the 11-day Rwanda tour departs during that month. The listed price is US$8,449 per person. If July is your target, compare the long tour with shorter packages before choosing. [4]
Do not treat a single listed price as a promise for every date. Ask the operator to confirm the current quote, permit status, room level, transport, and payment deadline. This matters most for couples comparing a per-couple rate with per-person rates.
Book early when you need a fixed gorilla date, a specific lodge, or a private vehicle. Use flexible dates when price matters more than a particular hotel. SafariFind reviews can help you judge communication, guide quality, and how closely an operator follows its published plan.
Kigali day trips are short journeys that begin and end in Kigali, including a listed 1-day gorilla trek to Volcanoes National Park. Safari packages last longer and can include gorilla trekking, Lake Kivu, Nyungwe Forest, cultural visits, or Big Five wildlife areas. [2][3]
Listed 2027 prices include US$6,500 per couple for a 7-night luxury package, US$8,449 per person for an 11-day July tour, and US$14,000 per couple for a luxury Bisate Lodge and lake-island package. A listed gorilla permit costs US$1,500 per person. [3][4]
Yes. Seek Wild Africa lists a 1-day gorilla trekking itinerary from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park and back. The trip suits travelers with limited time, but the schedule is tight. A 2-day itinerary adds an overnight stay near the park. [2]
Spend 1 day on a focused gorilla trip, 2 days for a less rushed trek, 7 nights for Kigali, Volcanoes, and Lake Kivu, or 11 days for a wider Rwanda tour. Your choice depends on available time, budget, and the number of regions you want to visit. [2][3][4]
The listed 7-night luxury package names June to September and December to January as its best seasons. January 2027 has listed daily departure options, while one 11-day tour departs in July 2027. Confirm dates and prices before payment. [3][4][5]

Kigali day trips and safari packages 2027: prices and booking options suit very different travel styles. A 1-day gorilla itinerary fits a tight schedule. A 2-day trek adds one useful night near Volcanoes National Park. A 7-night luxury package is listed at US$6,500 per couple, while an 11-day July tour is listed at US$8,449 per person. [2][3][4]
Choose your trip around one clear priority. Pick gorillas for a focused first visit. Add Lake Kivu or Nyungwe Forest when you want more time in Rwanda. Consider Akagera when a Big Five safari matters most. Remember that trekking can be strenuous, and the gorilla visit lasts a maximum of one hour. [1]

"I went tracking the gorillas in Rwanda and I'm glad I made a good choice to go with Universal Ventures, Their guides are friendly, punctual driver and very responsive office for any query. The experience of gorilla trekking in a once in a lifetime and I recommend this tour operator for your gorilla safari as well. Thank you."
"I was working with a tour operator out of Kenya to plan a Uganda gorilla trek followed by a Kenya & Tanzania safari. For some reason, the Uganda portion started having issues with only a few weeks to go. Enter Brian Ahereza of GoExplore. Wow! Talk about fast acting and excellent service. Within 1 day, Brian arranged everything. The only thing that would have made my trip better is if I had added one extra day, but by this point, we couldn't squeeze it in, so Brian did the absolute best with what he had to work with. For starters, one of the best things that could have happened did! ANd that was to have Charles assigned as our driver/guide. We flew into Kigali, Rwanda and Charles met us at the airport and took us to our hotel. The next morning we got up for the long drive to the Nkoringo area of Bwindi. A lot of this drive is on some VERY difficult dirt roads and Charles was masterful at navigating the terrain. Furthermore, I was using offline Google Maps to track our location and there is no possible way I could have gotten to where Charles was going. We got to Nkoringo Lodge and immediately loved it. Brian had arranged for us to have one of only 2 rooms there that had on demand hot water. Our room overlooked Bwindi and we sat on the deck admiring the view. To get to the bar/dining area, we hiked up and over a ridge and the view from that side was south to the 3 volcanoes on the border of Uganda/Rwanda/Congo - absolutely beautiful! The next day we did the trek to the Nkuringo gorilla group. It was not a difficult trek until we had to cross a fast flowing stream because the gorillas had gone to that side and as soon as we crossed, they came back! So we did too. And then we found them and it was such a wonderful experience! My wife was standing next to me and a young male (7-8 years old??) suddenly turned and started walking towards us. My wife moved to the left, but our guide said to stand still. The gorilla walked right between us and as he passed, he stuck out his arm between my legs and grasped me around the thigh!!! OMG! Even though I could feel his amazing power, I did not feel in danger. Just as quickly, he let go and continued walking! After that amazing trek, we drove (another long day) up to Queen Elizabeth National Park and spent 2 nights at the Buffalo Safari lodge. We did a couple of games drives in which we saw lots of antelope, elephants, buffalo and 6 lions (all female, with one or two young males). We followed with a boat ride on the Kazenga channel which was fantastic. The next day, we drove to Kibale National Park to look for Chimps. We arrived at our wonderful lodge, the Chimpanzee Forest Guest House at about lunchtime and then headed to Kibale for our Chimp Trek. At lunch, we met a couple who showed us amazing pictures from their trek that very morning. Unfortunately for us, even with 7 groups in the forest, we could only find 2 chimp sand they were up in the trees. That happens in nature, but the real lesson is to take the morning trek!!! The next day, Charles drove us to Entebbe and our Uganda trip was over. One of my friends asked me about the birds in Uganda. My wife loves birds and by extension, I have come to love them as well. SHe asked Charles, our guide, about every single bird we saw. Charles had a very well worn copy of "Birds of East Africa". He didn't need that book because he had it memorized. Charles was a fantastic driver/guide/person! He made our trip incredibly special! I can't thank Brian, Charles and GoExplore enough for making this so special!!!"
"I’m a wildlife photographer, and in May 2025, I went on an 8-day private photo safari organized by Brian, the owner of GoExplore Safari. The goal was to photograph Uganda’s wildlife highlights: gorillas in Bwindi, big cats in Queen Elizabeth, chimpanzees in Kibale, and the rare Shoebill Stork in Mabamba Swamp. The itinerary was well thought out, and everything ran smoothly. I flew into Kigali, Rwanda, which I highly recommend if you're heading to the Rushaga sector of Bwindi — much closer and more convenient than Entebbe. If photography is your priority, I also suggest booking two gorilla treks or considering Mgahinga. I only did one, and while it was incredible to see them, capturing strong images was difficult. The rainforest is thick, lighting tricky, and your movement limited — just something to keep in mind. Mozes, my guide, was outstanding. He’s punctual, safe, knowledgeable, and has a clear love for wildlife. He studied tourism, understands photography, and even shared stories from past conservation work, like relocating giraffes from Murchison Falls to Kidepo. He always positioned the car for the best angles and made the drives smooth and productive. Our first stop was Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, just five minutes from Rushaga Gate. The lodge was cozy, well-designed, and mosquito-free, with great coffee and local food — an ideal base for gorilla trekking. In Queen Elizabeth, we had four full days of game drives. I like to go hard on photography, so we were out from sunrise to sunset. One major perk with GoExplore is you can plan your own drive schedule within park hours (6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.). On our first day, we stayed until closing — the only car left in Kasenyi Plains. That kind of flexibility made a huge difference. I also recommend the optional lion and leopard tracking. You’re still in your private vehicle, but a tracker joins you and leads off-road directly to the cats. We spent nearly four hours with a leopard and her cubs in a cactus tree — truly a dream scenario for any photographer. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale was another highlight. The chimps came down from the trees and moved through the forest, and we followed them. The one-hour viewing stretched to 2.5 hours. For photography, it’s better to wait until they’re on the ground — the real action happens there. On the final day, we went to Mabamba Swamp to see the Shoebill. From a photography standpoint, it’s the best place in Africa to photograph this rare bird. The canoe brings you to water level, with clean backgrounds and soft light — a perfect setup. Uganda in late May was lush, green, and surprisingly dry — just one short rainstorm. The scenery, wildlife, and people made it a beautiful place to explore. If you’re considering Uganda, book with GoExplore — and if you can, request Mozes. His experience and attention to detail made the entire trip not just productive, but truly enjoyable. Huge thanks to Brian and Mozes for making it all happen!"
"Lovely destination Uganda we selected GoExplore Safaris because their budget was affordable and they were so fast and quick at responding to our emails and all the questions. Elephants, giraffe, deer, antelope, warthogs, hippopotamus, crocodiles, hyena, lion, beautiful birds, and a leopard. It was incredible! The boat rides up the Nile to Murchison Falls is a must do and a perfect way to end the tour. I Did not have any Idea on how beautiful Uganda is. wow, I highly recommend GoExplore Safaris and travel for anyone who is interested in adventuring Uganda and Rwanda to its fullest."
"Our Rwanda trip trip from gorilla trekking in volcanoes just got done and now settled back home we were lucky to have attended the gorilla ceremony and the team was able to atleast show us why this was a big day for Rwanda it was such a coincidence to have travelled this beautiful country while they were naming the gorillas great thing to do I advise you to look for goexplore brian will take you to Kigali for this event."
