Isalo National Park sits near Ranohira, between Ilakaka and Ranohira. The park is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Planning matters because the walking day must fit those hours. Your package also needs to match your pace, transport needs, and room budget.
Quick answer: A 2027 Isalo walking safari costs at least $2,039 per person for a listed multiday package. An 11-day Madagascar trip that includes Isalo starts at $5,199. Lodge prices near the park are reported at about $800 to $2,000 per night, so check what your package includes before comparing totals [1][2].
This guide focuses on price, trip length, park access, booking steps, and questions to ask. It also points you toward related Madagascar planning guides and verified operators on SafariFind. The numbers below reflect available 2027 pricing data as of October 2026.
Isalo walking safari packages are multiday Madagascar tours that include time near Isalo National Park, accommodation, and selected meals. Listed 2027 prices start at $2,039 per person. Longer tours combine Isalo with other parts of Madagascar and may last 10 to 16 days [1].
Isalo National Park is near Ranohira in southern Madagascar. Its position between Ilakaka and Ranohira makes Ranohira the key place to use when checking transfers and lodge locations. A useful package should state how you reach the park, where you sleep, and which meals the price covers.
The word "walking" matters here. Ask whether the quoted price includes guided walks inside the park, transport to trailheads, and time for breaks. A low headline price can look attractive, but missing transfers or meals may change the final cost.
SafariFind connects travellers with verified tour operators and authentic reviews. Compare 2027 Isalo safari packages and walking tour prices before you choose a route or request a quote.
Isalo packages work well for travellers who want time on foot rather than a short stop between drives. They also suit visitors building a wider Madagascar journey. For example, you can compare Isalo with Ranomafana National Park or read the Madagascar first-timer's guide for 2027 before setting your route.
A package gives you one price for several trip parts. That can make planning easier in a country where long transfers affect the shape of a holiday. However, you still need a written list of inclusions. "Selected meals" does not mean every meal, and "multiday tour" does not explain how many nights you spend near Isalo.
Known for: Isalo package planning centres on park access, walking time, accommodation near Ranohira, and links to other Madagascar regions. Best for: travellers who want a guided walking stop within a longer southern Madagascar trip.
Isalo walking safari packages in 2027 start at $2,039 per person for listed multiday tours with accommodation and selected meals. An 11-day Madagascar package that includes Isalo starts at $5,199 per person. Your final cost depends on the trip length, lodge level, transfers, and included services [1][2].
| Package type | Listed price | Trip detail |
|---|---|---|
| Multiday Isalo package | From $2,039 per person | Accommodation and selected meals included |
| 11-day Madagascar package | From $5,199 per person | Includes Isalo |
| Lodge near Isalo | About $800 to $2,000 per night | Reported accommodation range |
The table shows why you should compare like with like. A $2,039 package and a $5,199 package may cover different trip lengths. One may focus on Isalo, while the other may connect the park with several regions. Ask for the number of nights, meals, transfers, and guided activities in writing.
Lodges near Isalo are reported at approximately $800 to $2,000 per night [1]. That figure makes accommodation one of the biggest cost points to review. Ask whether the package rate uses a lodge price, a room share, or a different room category.
If your budget is firm, start with the full package total rather than the nightly lodge rate. Then check flights, transfers, park fees, drinks, tips, and extra walks. These items can affect the amount you spend even when the package price looks complete.
Request a quote from verified Madagascar tour operators for a 2027 Isalo walking safari and ask each operator to use the same trip length and inclusions.
A historical Isalo park fee of about $20 was reported for 2018. That old figure should not guide your 2027 budget. Confirm the current entrance charge with your operator before you pay [6].
Use these questions when reviewing a quote:
SafariFind lets you compare tour operators, package details, and traveller feedback in one place. Read the review history as well as the price. A clear quote is worth more than a low figure that leaves key costs out.
Start by choosing the number of days you want near Isalo, then compare the full package price. Confirm the park hours, walking plan, accommodation, meals, transfers, and entrance fee before you place a deposit.
Decide whether Isalo is your main destination or one stop on a longer Madagascar circuit. Combined packages may last 10 to 16 days [1]. An 11-day package that includes Isalo starts at $5,199 per person [2].
A short Isalo-focused trip gives you less time on the road. A longer route lets you add other places, but the price rises with extra nights and transfers. Compare both formats before you decide that one quote is cheaper.
Travellers who want rainforest as well as dry southern scenery can read the 5-day Andasibe-Mantadia itinerary guide. Those who want a wider southern route can also compare Anja Community Reserve with Isalo.
Ask your operator to describe each walking day in plain language. The plan should show the start time, estimated return time, guide arrangement, transport, and rest stops. It should also explain what happens if you want a shorter walk.
Isalo National Park is reported as open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Plan your start around those hours. Early starts can also help you use the day well, but your operator should confirm the exact schedule for your visit.
Check the lodge location near Ranohira. A lodge farther from the park may change your transfer time. A lodge closer to the park may cost more. Reported lodge prices near Isalo range from about $800 to $2,000 per night [1].
Ask for the room type and meal plan. Selected meals are included in the listed $2,039 starting package, but the phrase does not cover every meal [1]. Get the exact meal list before you compare packages.
Read authentic reviews before booking. Look for comments about guides, timing, transfers, lodge quality, and communication. SafariFind lists verified tour operators, so you can compare the people behind the package rather than judging price alone.
Keep every promise in the written quote. Save the itinerary, payment terms, included services, and contact details. If the operator changes the plan, ask for the new total and schedule in writing.
October 2026 is a useful point to plan 2027 travel. Start by comparing packages, then request detailed quotes. Once you select a route, confirm availability, the deposit, and the current entrance fee.
Do not treat a starting price as a guaranteed final total. Starting rates are useful for comparison, but your dates, lodge, room type, and route decide the final amount. This is especially true for a longer trip with several regions.
Pack for guided walking, changing conditions, and long travel days. Confirm the route and services with your operator first, because the package details decide what you need most.
These are practical packing choices, not fixed park rules. Your guide can give the best advice for the walking route and season. Ask whether the operator provides water, walking poles, or a packed lunch.
Use a short checklist when you speak with an operator. Clear answers help you compare quotes without guessing.
Place both quotes side by side. Write down the number of nights, meals, lodge name, transfers, park fees, and walking services. Then compare the final total, not only the advertised starting rate.
A quote with a higher price may include more nights or wider transport coverage. A cheaper quote may suit you if it covers the same services. The only fair comparison uses the same dates, route, room type, and meal plan.
Travellers planning a broader Madagascar holiday can also review 7-day Madagascar trips through Antsirabe. Beach time may fit a different route, while Isalo works as a southern inland stop. Keep the route realistic so long transfers do not crowd out walking time.
Save one file with your quote, itinerary, payment record, operator contacts, and insurance details. Add the lodge name and park access plan. This simple step makes changes easier to track before departure.
Isalo walking safari packages are easier to compare when each detail appears in writing. Take your time. The best booking is the one that matches your pace, budget, and comfort level.

A combined Madagascar package that includes Isalo may last 10 to 16 days. The right length depends on whether Isalo is your main stop or part of a wider route. Ask how many nights the package provides near the park [1].
Isalo National Park is reported as open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Plan your walking schedule within those hours. Confirm the exact access plan with your operator before travel.
Park fee inclusion depends on the package. A historical fee of about $20 was reported for 2018, but that figure should not guide a 2027 budget. Ask your operator to confirm the current entrance charge before payment [6].

"From start to finish, this tour was an unforgettable experience. When enquiring about planning this trip ,Tony was very responsive, informative and. answered all our questions as we went along .When my suitcase didn't arrive in Madagascar Tony sorted it for me and negotiated with the airline on my behalf, going above and beyond and was very much appreciated Our guides were all knowledgeable, friendly, and punctual and clearly passionate about what they do, which made the whole trip both fun and informative. The itinerary was perfectly balanced — we saw all the major highlights without ever feeling rushed, and there were plenty of opportunities to take photos, ask questions, and just soak up the atmosphere. The transportation was comfortable, everything ran smoothly and on time, and as it was a private tour we were able to spend as little or as much time at each place as we chose. Every stop had something unique to offer, and the insider stories and local tips really brought the culture to life. It’s rare to find a tour that gets every detail right, but this one truly did, guides were on time , transfers were smooth, everything was flexible to our wishes. Hugh thanks to Tony, Sidney, Princee and Nico. The drivers were all awesome and we always felt safe despite some roads been very African massage- bumpy ! We left with amazing memories, beautiful photos, and a much deeper appreciation for the country. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic and enjoyable experience. We would do it again in a heartbeat!"
"I highly recommend the Friendly Tour Guide Mada. The best cars I have seen on Madagascar, very clean, comfortable and modern. Drivers and tour guide are professionals! Very polite and helpful. Except 3 spots written in the description, expect visit to a very nice European restaurant with an amazing view! We are very happy, that we found this reliable tour operator. Thank you for everything ☺️"
"We have recently finished a 10 day tour of Madagascar in April 2025 using the operator “Madagascar Natural Tours” from start to finish it almost felt too good to be true, I have never met any one else from Australia who has been to Madagascar so we were very hesitant in whether it would be safe and had no idea how to organise a holiday there or what to expect. Harilala was extremely professional and communicative the entire way and answered every single (too many) questions of ours and made us feel comfortable and excited. He planned our itinerary just perfectly we listed a couple of things we had wanted to see - baobab avenue, lemurs and Nosy Be. He organised our whole itinerary, accomodation and flights for us so that it flowed seamlessly. He provided options in accomodation as we were seeking honeymoon style resorts. The hotels that he booked were beautiful, clean, great food and lovely staff! We had a few internal flights in our itinerary and it was so nice stepping off the plane and trusting that there would be a guide there waiting for us to get us to our hotel. The few times during our stay we had a question regarding our tour, Harilala would reply to our messages almost immediately and paid very careful attention to ensure we were happy and getting the most out of our tour. Using Madagascar Natural Tours took all stress out of the holiday / planning and allowed us to just show up and make memories of a lifetime! I would highly recommend this company to anybody curious to explore Madagascar! Particularly if you do not speak French, we struggled with the language barrier however all guides had amazing English which was such a relief. We can’t wait to come back in a few years time!!"
"We entrusted Harilala with our Madagascar tour, explaining what we wanted to see and visit. What can I say? He exceeded our expectations! Besides the wonderful tour, Solo and Fidele, our tour leaders, made the difference. We spent 20 days in Madagascar, and they flew by; everything was fantastic. We'll definitely be back to see the southernmost part of the country."
