Central Kalahari Game Reserve Safari Cost Guide 2027 is designed for travelers who want clear prices before they book. The reserve offers a remote Botswana safari across dry grasslands, desert landscapes, and open plains. Costs change with camp style, trip length, group size, transport, and travel dates.
This guide separates published prices from planning advice. It covers camping safaris, mid-range lodges, luxury desert camps, park fees, and booking steps. It also shows how the Central Kalahari compares with other Botswana safari choices.
Known for: remote wildlife viewing, wide open desert scenery, black-maned lions, meerkats, and seasonal zebra movements. [3]
Best for: travelers who value quiet landscapes, small groups, guided drives, and a less crowded safari setting.
Quick answer: A Central Kalahari safari in 2027 costs about €4,480 per person for a four-night camping itinerary, based on the current research summary. Published packages also include a seven-day mobile camping trip from AUD 2,600 per person sharing and longer holidays near €7,860 per person. [4][7]
Central Kalahari safari cost in 2027 depends mainly on accommodation, nights, vehicle style, and group size. A camping trip gives you the lowest listed entry point, while private desert camps create the highest prices. Travelers should compare the full package, not only the nightly rate.
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve sits within the wider Kalahari Desert region. Its setting feels very different from the water-rich channels of the Okavango Delta. A Central Kalahari safari focuses on open scenery, desert wildlife, long drives, and a strong sense of distance.
The reserve is also a useful choice for visitors building a wider Botswana itinerary. You can compare a dry-land reserve with water-based areas, salt pans, and northern wildlife parks. The final route depends on your arrival city and the number of nights available.
Central Kalahari costs can look confusing because operators publish prices in different currencies. One small-group holiday is listed at about €1,268 or £1,122 per person. Another listed itinerary reaches about €7,860 or £6,960 per person. [4][5] These figures show why you must check duration, inclusions, and lodging before comparing offers.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic traveler reviews. Compare Central Kalahari safari packages and current 2027 prices before choosing a travel style.
Kruger National Park is a high-volume safari search term, with 14,800 monthly searches in the supplied keyword research. The Central Kalahari offers a different product: fewer urban links, more remote roads, and desert-focused scenery. Yala National Park safari searches also target a different region and wildlife setting, so travelers should compare experiences, not just prices.
A Central Kalahari safari costs from AUD 2,600 per person sharing for the listed seven-day mobile camping itinerary. Mid-range stays cost US$450–US$700 per person per night, while luxury camps can cost US$1,000–US$1,600 or more during peak periods. [3][7]

The listed seven-day itinerary starts and ends in Maun. [7] Its scheduled 2027 departures begin on January 7 and continue through November 25, with several departures listed across the year. [7] The published starting rate applies to January–May and November–December 2027, at AUD 2,600 per person sharing. [7]
Always ask for a written list of inclusions. A lower price may cover camping, guiding, meals, and park access but exclude flights, transfers, drinks, tips, insurance, or pre- and post-safari hotels. A higher quote may include private vehicles, flights, premium rooms, and flexible dates.
Central Kalahari entry fees listed in the current fee summary are BWP 190 for a non-resident adult, BWP 145 for a resident adult, and BWP 20 for a citizen adult. Foreign-registered vehicle entry is listed at BWP 75. [6]
Children aged 8–15 pay 50% of the adult rate, while children under eight enter free under the listed summary. [6] Confirm these charges with your operator because package contracts may bundle fees or apply different billing rules.
Compare like with like. Place every quote into the same checklist: nights, room type, group size, vehicle, meals, park fees, transfers, flights, guide, and cancellation terms.
SafariFind helps you compare operators and read authentic reviews before you pay a deposit. Request quotes from verified Central Kalahari safari operators and check which inclusions match your budget.
Booking a Central Kalahari safari starts with choosing your travel dates, accommodation level, and arrival plan. The reserve is remote, so early planning matters. You should confirm deposits, transfers, entry fees, and accommodation availability before making final travel arrangements.
Maun is the start and end point for the listed seven-day, six-night mobile camping itinerary. [7] This makes Maun a practical base for travelers combining the Central Kalahari with other Botswana destinations. Build in time for arrival delays before the first camp departure.
Travelers may also add the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park or the Chobe National Park to a wider route. These additions change the total cost, number of transfers, and ideal trip length.
The published mobile safari has departures from January 7 through November 25, 2027. [7] That schedule gives travelers several planning windows, but it does not make every date identical. Ask the operator about road conditions, wildlife focus, camp access, and weather for your chosen month.
January through May and November through December show the listed AUD 2,600 starting price for the mobile itinerary. [7] Rates for other months may differ. Treat the starting price as a guide, then request a date-specific quote.
Central Kalahari accommodation is limited by its remote setting. The research summary advises travelers to reserve accommodation early and confirm deposits. This step protects your preferred camp dates and reduces the risk of building an itinerary around unavailable rooms.
For planning ideas, read the Best Safari Lodges in Botswana 2027 rates guide. Travelers who prefer a water-based extension can also review Moremi Game Reserve safari packages for 2027.
Travelers can explore Tau Pan, Ghanzi, or Gcwihaba Caves when an operator offers a suitable route. Each add-on affects driving time and the final package price. Do not assume that a nearby destination fits every safari schedule.
Pack light, use neutral clothing, and bring sun protection. Ask your operator for a complete packing list. Remote camping often requires different luggage limits than a lodge-based safari.

"Cultural Vibes Travel and Tours has proved to be excellent yet again as this is now the third time, we have used them and a much-needed break after almost 3 years with the Covid pandemic. Tongesai is extremely reliable, professional, knowledgeable and does everything to make your trip a memorable experience. Compared to local larger companies, Tongesai’s individual package rates are more reasonable and come with a customized touch. We felt that our holiday with Tongesai was much better and suited us more so than if we had booked through a larger company. His individual tailoring, personal involvement and attention to detail pays off in the smooth running of your trip. Our visits to the Victoria Falls, both sides from Zimbabwe and Zambia were magnificent and never cease to amaze us. On this trip Tongesai arranged for a private sunset cruise on the Zambezi just for our family of four instead of on the larger vessels, which was a very pleasant alternative. The boat trip in Chobe is magical and a must if you venture into Botswana. Wildlife was in abundance, including lion, elephant, wildebeest, buffalo, puku, kudu, bushbuck, waterbuck, impala, gemsbok, steenbok, sable and roan antelope, etc. We even saw a relative of Cecil, the famous black-maned lion, ‘once a true king of Hwange National Park’. I have no hesitation in recommending the company for arranging tours in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana - we will definitely be seeing him again. He is currently setting up arrangements with colleagues in Kruger National Park to venture into South Africa and I wish him every success with that."

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"I spent a week in Botswana with cultural vibes, travels & tours and had not a single dull moment. The hotels/lodges we stayed at were very clean and service was professional. On the drives I had good conversations with the tour operator as he taught me a lot about the culture and about all the different animals (which we saw a lot of). Overall I had a great experience and would definitely book again."

"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."
