Cape Town safari day trips start at US$177.73, while a private 10-hour tour starts at US$301 per person. [3]
Cape Town Safari Day Trips 2027: Prices and Operator Quotes range from US$177.73 for listed day-trip options to US$301 for a private 10-hour tour. Two-day safari options cost US$274.08 to US$938.51 per person. The best booking approach is to compare routes, inclusions, dates, and verified operator quotes before choosing a 2027 trip.
Cape Town safari day trips in 2027 are wildlife excursions that start in Cape Town and return the same day, usually after a long road journey or a short transfer. Listed options begin at US$177.73, while a private 10-hour tour starts at US$301 per person. [3] These trips suit visitors who cannot add a full safari stay.
Cape Town is a strong base for a mixed South Africa holiday. You can spend one day in the city, visit Table Mountain, and then add a wildlife experience. However, a day trip from Cape Town is not the same as staying inside a major game reserve. Travel time, park choice, and wildlife viewing time all shape the day.
Cape Town safari day trips are known for fitting wildlife viewing into a tight holiday schedule. A private 10-hour outing gives you more control over departure time, vehicle type, and stops. A shared trip may cost less, but the route and pickup schedule usually follow a set plan.
SafariFind connects travellers with verified tour operators and safari packages across South Africa. You can also compare nearby wildlife choices, including Addo Elephant National Park and other destinations that work better for longer stays.
A Cape Town safari day trip saves hotel changes and extra flights. It also limits your time in the reserve. That trade-off matters if your main goal is a relaxed safari with several game drives. A longer trip gives animals more time to appear and gives guides more chances to cover different habitats.
The phrase "safari from Cape Town" can describe several different products. Some tours use a private vehicle. Others combine a transfer, reserve entry, meals, and a guided drive. Read the full itinerary before booking, because the cheapest headline price may cover fewer services.
Compare Cape Town safari day-trip packages and request a quote from verified operators.
A safari trip in South Africa costs US$177.73 or more for listed Cape Town day-trip options, US$301 or more for a private 10-hour tour, and US$274.08 to US$938.51 for listed two-day options. [3] Longer tours cost more because they add accommodation, transfers, meals, park time, and extra game drives.
South Africa safari pricing is usually quoted per person per day. A typical package can include accommodation, meals, game activities, and park fees, while international flights and tips sit outside the quoted price. [5] Always check whether domestic flights, transfers, drinks, and single-room charges appear in the final quote.
| Safari option | Published price | Typical length | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listed Cape Town day trip | From US$177.73 [3] | One day | Travellers with limited time |
| Private Cape Town safari | From US$301 per person [3] | 10 hours | Private groups and flexible schedules |
| Two-day safari | US$274.08 to US$938.51 per person [3] | Two days | Travellers wanting more reserve time |
| South Africa multi-stop tour | From US$2,799 [4] | 10 days | Travellers combining Cape Town and Kruger |
| Air-inclusive African safari | From US$12,184 [1] | 14 days | Travellers seeking a longer guided journey |
Group size is one of the biggest price factors. A private vehicle spreads its cost across fewer people, so the per-person rate rises for solo travellers or couples. Shared departures can lower the rate, but they may offer less control over pickup times and route changes.
Park fees and game drives also affect the quote. A package that includes two game drives and meals may look expensive beside a transfer-only product. Compare the full list of inclusions, not only the first number you see.
Travel dates matter for 2027 planning. School holidays, weekends, and popular summer dates can reduce availability. Operators may also quote different rates for private rooms, child places, airport transfers, and longer driving distances.
Compare 2027 safari operators by route, price, and verified traveller reviews.
The best Cape Town safari route depends on your available time, budget, and tolerance for road travel. Choose a day trip for a quick wildlife taste, a two-day safari for more game-drive time, or a multi-stop itinerary for Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Kruger National Park. A 10-day route covering those places starts at US$2,799. [4]
Kruger National Park is the clearest choice for travellers who want a large, well-known safari destination. A Cape Town to Kruger plan needs more time than a day trip, but it gives you a better chance to enjoy several drives. SafariFind also lists information on Kruger entry fees and safari costs for 2027.
A one-day safari is best for visitors who already have Cape Town hotels and flights booked. The US$177.73 starting price gives you a useful budget marker. The private 10-hour option from US$301 is better for travellers who value direct pickup, a private guide, or a schedule built around their group. [3]
Ask the operator how long you spend inside the reserve. A long drive can reduce wildlife time. Request the departure and return times, pickup area, meal plan, reserve name, and number of game drives before you pay.
A two-day safari gives you more time than a city-based day trip. Published options range from US$274.08 to US$938.51 per person. [3] The wide gap shows why you must compare lodging type, transport, private access, meals, and game-drive hours.
Two days work well for couples and families who want a real overnight safari without committing to a week. Ask whether the second day includes a morning drive, an afternoon drive, or both. That detail can change the value of the package.
A multi-stop itinerary works when Cape Town is one part of a longer holiday. TourRadar lists a 10-day route that includes Cape Town, Table Mountain, Johannesburg, Kruger National Park, and Hazyview, starting at US$2,799. [4] This style suits travellers who want city sights and safari time in one booking.
Longer journeys can become expensive quickly. Smithsonian Journeys lists a 14-day African safari from US$12,184, including airfare, taxes, and fees, with several 2027 departures. [1] Road Scholar also lists a Southern Africa Safari and Train Adventure beginning in Cape Town on October 23, 2027, with check-in at the Vineyard Hotel at 2:00 p.m. [2]
South Africa has several safari regions beyond the Cape Town area. Travellers who can add flights or extra road days can compare Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve, uMkhuze Game Reserve, and MalaMala Private Game Reserve. These are not simple Cape Town day trips, but they may suit a full safari holiday better.
Book a Cape Town safari day trip by checking the reserve, driving time, inclusions, group size, cancellation terms, and final per-person price. Then compare at least two operator quotes for the same date. A clear quote should show what you pay for and what you still need to arrange.
SafariFind lets you compare verified tour operators and read authentic reviews from previous travellers. Use the trip length and destination filters first. Then request a quote that matches your exact dates instead of comparing vague package names.
Look for reviews that mention pickup times, guide knowledge, vehicle comfort, wildlife time, and communication. A short review that only says "great trip" tells you less than a detailed account of the route and inclusions.
Review numbers also need context. A high score with only a few reviews does not tell the same story as a similar score built from many trips. SafariFind helps you compare operator profiles, package details, and traveller feedback in one place.
Pack water, sun protection, a light jacket, closed shoes, and a phone charger. Early starts can feel cold, even when the afternoon becomes warm. Bring binoculars if you have them, but ask the operator whether the vehicle already carries shared viewing equipment.
Keep luggage small. Day-trip vehicles have limited space, and large bags can make a long drive uncomfortable. Tell the operator about children, mobility needs, food allergies, or medication before departure.

A Cape Town safari day trip is worth it when you have one free day and want a short wildlife experience. It saves a hotel change, but long road travel can reduce time inside the reserve. Choose a two-day trip if game drives matter more than keeping the schedule short.
A South Africa safari package usually includes accommodation, meals, game activities, and park fees. International flights and tips are often outside the quoted price. [5] Ask the operator to list transfers, drinks, entry fees, guide services, and single-room costs before booking.

Book a Cape Town safari for 2027 after fixing your travel dates and hotel location. Request quotes early for private vehicles, school holiday travel, and fixed-date tours. Confirm availability, cancellation rules, pickup time, and every included service before paying.

"We made our reservations with 50% down-payment way back in Feb-26, 4 months before our trip in June and balance 50% one month before departure from Singapore. We were not sure and worried a bit whether things would turn out as described and promised, as this is our first ever trip to South Africa. All our worries disappeared from the moment we were picked up upon arrival according to the itinerary, and subsequent daily trips were excellent in view of timing, routes, transports, accommodations, meals, and to the local guides and drivers assigned. Everything is above and beyond our expectations, and we sincerely thank Safari Tailors for providing us such a memorable trip of our life!"
"Communications with Mack via email were swift and comprehensible. We were picked up at the airport on arrival by our guide, Thomas, who would be with us for the whole week. We signed up for a budget camping safari, and we had a great time! The campsites were nicer than I thought they would be, and the Kiliholidays team did a great job of taking care of us the whole trip. Thomas was very accommodating, and our 'stomach engineer' did a fantastic job the whole trip. My partner and I were very impressed by the quality of the food. Thomas was an incredible driver; a few times we had to stop and help other drivers who were stuck! This was my second visit to East Africa, and I will definitely book with Kiliholidays for my third trip :) A few tips for other travelers: The sleeping mattress was a bit thin for me (my partner had no trouble!), but I found that sleeping on my back instead of my side helped. If you have sensitive hips, I'd recommend bringing something to use as a cushion, or possibly arranging for an extra mattress. The tent was high-quality and the sleeping bags were warm. We stayed in Mto wa Mbu a few nights and it was quite hot there. We brought sleeping sacks (very thin) and used those instead. Bring LOTS of insect repellent and use it often (biting flies in the daytime, mosquitoes at night). Same with hand sanitizer (public campsite toilets don't usually have soap). Granola bars are a good idea, too, if you like to snack between meals. There's not a lot of access to ice, so if you like an evening adult-beverage, just ask your guide to stop before you leave Arusha to pick up some wine. We picked up a 5-liter box of South African wine for about 25euros and it was very convenient (bring your own cups!)."
"This is the second time I have traveled with my family with GoExplore. The first time was an amazing Uganda experience (already reviewed) and this second experience with my husband to Kenya was equally amazing. Brian organized organized both tours for me and tailored them according to my wishes. As this is still the time of unsure flights and Covid difficulties, he was easily able to adapt to some changes with travel that were beyond our control. GoExplore is a boutique business that is very personalized and offers you the equal and more than a large corporate operator. The price point is compatible with group tours but you will have your own personal driver and guide for yourself and there is nothing to compare with this luxury. Because of that, you will also be able to adapt your days schedule if you wish according what you want and not what is a groups plan. We were completely happy and satisfied with all aspects of our travel (on both trips). Brian knows the safari tour industry and is constantly working to improve the business, his knowledge about lodges, the parks, restaurants and all minute aspects of the tour. He will be able to personally attest to the quality of whatever product he is recommending to you. Sammi was our driver in Kenya and we can only say that he was amazing. He knew more about wildlife (and every birds name and details) than an encyclopedia, was an amazingly adept driver in sometimes rough conditions (traffic, rough park roads, etc.) and looked out for our interests. While respecting the animals, he went above and beyond trying to make sure we saw every different animal we could. We appreciated that he obviously respected and cared about the animals we were seeing. (Not all safari drivers do and will do anything to try to get to see something up close, even while encroaching too much on their space.) We had a minor vehicle difficulty and Sammi made sure that everything went smoothly and we didn't miss a minute of our trip or schedule. He is quite an asset to GoExplore. Sammi only drives on Kenya trips but if you go to Uganda, I highly recommend Moses who was equally great. Overall, the trip was an unforgettable trip of a lifetime. If you haven't gone on a safari before, you should trip to put this on your life plan. There is nothing like it and when you plan it, you want a safari operator that will listen to your needs, wants, and budget and tailor it to fit you. GoExplore will do that in a personal way. Our lodges that Brian picked were magical and the food was outstanding. There was nothing about our trip that we would have changed. I highly recommend GoExplore if you want to travel to any of the countries they operate in. If not those countries, then reconsider them over the more commercialized ones (such as South Africa) and you won't be disappointed."
"We just finished a 2-week tour of South Africa with extension to Victoria Falls and the Monde Village Cultural Experience was one of the highlights of the entire trip. It is a must-do for anyone in the area. Tongesai (our guide) was very personable and worked with us to customize the experience. He was flexible and took time to explain many things that aren't part of the "regular tour". We had great conversations throughout the tour. He ended up dropping us off so late (8:30pm), his wife had to call him twice. He took a few pictures with us so he had alibi. :) Mr Ncube (our village host) and his family were welcoming and excited to show us their way of life. Mr Ncube's explanations of his culture, family structure, farming struggles, and discussions on many topics showed us a simple way of life, much different than our modern American ways, but it made so much sense. People here fight hard to live but they do it with a smile. They may be poor, but not in spirit. We asked many questions and received questions ourselves. It was as if I was visiting an uncle living in a rural part of a third-world country. This family made us felt at home. We wish we had more time to sit under the summer kitchen during a raining day, sharing food and chatting with these folks. We wish we could sit in the winter kitchen to hear him teach his children and grandchildren. Needless to say, we spent 4+ hrs at this experience and wanted more. I am now back to "civilization" in a nice Qatari hotel, but I kept thinking about my time in the simple Monde Village. What a breath of fresh air that was. I brought some extra clothes to give, but ended up giving as much as I could live without for the rest of my trip. A pair of sandals doesn't mean much to me, but it means a lot to people in these villages. This is 30+ hrs flight from home so it is a one-time chance to help; I had to make the best of it. If I can come back to this area, I will definitely bring more people to share in this amazing experience. I encourage all who come to Victoria Falls to add this cultural experience to their itinerary."
"Cultural Vibes Travel and Tours has proved to be excellent yet again as this is now the third time, we have used them and a much-needed break after almost 3 years with the Covid pandemic. Tongesai is extremely reliable, professional, knowledgeable and does everything to make your trip a memorable experience. Compared to local larger companies, Tongesai’s individual package rates are more reasonable and come with a customized touch. We felt that our holiday with Tongesai was much better and suited us more so than if we had booked through a larger company. His individual tailoring, personal involvement and attention to detail pays off in the smooth running of your trip. Our visits to the Victoria Falls, both sides from Zimbabwe and Zambia were magnificent and never cease to amaze us. On this trip Tongesai arranged for a private sunset cruise on the Zambezi just for our family of four instead of on the larger vessels, which was a very pleasant alternative. The boat trip in Chobe is magical and a must if you venture into Botswana. Wildlife was in abundance, including lion, elephant, wildebeest, buffalo, puku, kudu, bushbuck, waterbuck, impala, gemsbok, steenbok, sable and roan antelope, etc. We even saw a relative of Cecil, the famous black-maned lion, ‘once a true king of Hwange National Park’. I have no hesitation in recommending the company for arranging tours in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana - we will definitely be seeing him again. He is currently setting up arrangements with colleagues in Kruger National Park to venture into South Africa and I wish him every success with that."
