Botswana safari costs vary significantly based on accommodation type, season, and travel style in 2026.[1] The country practices a "high-value, low-volume" tourism model, which keeps crowds small but raises prices compared to other African destinations.[2] You'll find options for every budget, from mobile tented camps to five-star permanent lodges.
A quick answer: Budget safaris start at $180 per day, mid-range options run $240–$800 per day, and luxury experiences cost $1,000–$4,000+ per day, all-inclusive.[1] Most travelers spend 7 days in Botswana, making total costs range from $1,260 to $28,000+ per person.
Understanding these costs helps you plan smarter. Prices shift with seasons, group size, and lodge location. Before booking, know what's included: meals, game drives, park fees, and flights often bundle together in all-inclusive packages.
Botswana's remote geography and strict conservation policies make safaris pricier than neighboring countries.[2] Fly-in access to lodges adds cost but keeps wildlife areas pristine. You're paying for exclusivity, small group sizes, and world-class guides.
Budget safaris in Botswana offer authentic experiences without luxury frills. Standard mobile tented camps provide the lowest-cost options, typically $180–$240 per day, all-inclusive.[3] These camps move seasonally and offer basic but comfortable accommodations.
What's included in budget packages:
A 7-day budget safari costs approximately $1,260–$1,680 per person.[1] This covers all meals, drives, and accommodation but excludes flights to Botswana and tips.
Budget camps operate primarily in the green season (November–April), when prices drop and landscapes turn lush. However, wildlife viewing is less predictable than in the dry season. These camps suit adventurous travelers who prioritize experience over comfort.
Popular budget locations include Moremi Game Reserve ($180 per day) and Khwai ($155 per day).[3] Both areas deliver excellent wildlife encounters at lower prices than premium lodges.
Book your budget safari 2–3 months ahead to secure dates and compare operators. Browse verified Botswana safari packages on SafariFind to find budget-friendly options with authentic traveler reviews.
Mid-range safaris offer a balance between comfort and value, costing $240–$800 per day all-inclusive.[1] These packages typically feature luxury mobile tented camps or small permanent lodges with better amenities than budget options.
Mid-range accommodations include:
A 7-day mid-range safari costs $2,100–$5,600 per person.[5] This covers all meals, accommodation, activities, and park fees but excludes international flights.
Mid-range camps operate year-round in prime locations like Moremi Game Reserve ($240 per day) and Savuti ($240+ per day).[3] Shoulder seasons (April–May and September–October) offer mid-range pricing with excellent wildlife viewing.
Mid-range packages suit families, couples, and travelers seeking comfort without extreme expense. You get expert guides, quality food, and reliable wildlife encounters. Group sizes remain small, typically 6–12 people per camp.
According to 2026 data, mid-range Botswana safaris range from $1,650–$2,420 per person for 7 days (low to high options).[5] Premium mid-range camps charge $2,090–$2,640 per person.
Prepare for a mid-range safari 4–6 months in advance. Compare mid-range operators and read reviews on SafariFind to find the best value for your dates.
Luxury safaris deliver five-star experiences with premium lodges, private guides, and exclusive amenities, costing $1,000–$4,000+ per day all-inclusive.[1] These packages target travelers seeking the best Botswana has to offer.
Luxury safari features:
A 7-day luxury safari costs $7,000–$28,000+ per person.[1] Five-star options range from $2,750–$5,000 per person for 7 days (low to high).[5]
Luxury camps operate year-round in the best wildlife areas. Peak season (July–October) commands premium prices but guarantees exceptional wildlife viewing. Green season (November–April) offers lower rates with lush landscapes and fewer tourists.
Popular luxury destinations include the Okavango Delta's exclusive lodges and Chobe's riverside camps. These properties limit guests to 20–30 people maximum, ensuring intimate experiences. Some offer all-inclusive packages with international flights included.
Luxury safaris suit honeymooners, special occasions, and travelers with flexible budgets. Expert naturalists, gourmet chefs, and attentive staff create unforgettable memories. Private game drives mean you set your own pace and focus on wildlife you want to see.
Book luxury safaris 6–12 months ahead, especially for peak season. Request custom quotes from verified operators to understand what's included and confirm all-inclusive pricing.
Most Botswana safari packages are all-inclusive, covering meals, accommodation, activities, and park fees.[2] Understanding what's bundled helps you compare prices accurately and avoid surprises.
Typically included:
Often NOT included:
Domestic flights within Botswana add $300–$800 per person depending on distance. Most safari lodges require fly-in access, so budget for these internal flights.
Tips are customary in Botswana (10–15% of total cost). Guides, camp staff, and drivers expect gratuities for excellent service.
Before booking, request a detailed breakdown of what's included. Ask about alcohol policies, WiFi availability, and whether flights are bundled. Transparent operators list everything upfront.
Botswana's dry season (May–October) offers the best wildlife viewing and commands peak-season prices.[1] Green season (November–April) features lower rates and lush landscapes but less predictable game viewing.
Peak season (May–October):
Green season (November–April):
Shoulder seasons (April–May and September–October) offer balanced pricing and good wildlife viewing. These months suit budget-conscious travelers seeking quality experiences.
Before visiting, check visa and vaccination requirements. Swiss citizens, Spanish citizens, Italian citizens, and Dutch citizens have specific requirements. Review health rules before booking to ensure smooth travel planning.
Botswana safari costs vary by destination. Remote areas command higher prices due to fly-in access and exclusivity.[2] Here's how major locations compare:
| Location | Budget ($) | Mid-Range ($) | Luxury ($) | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Moremi Game Reserve | 180 | 240–500 | 1,040+ | All wildlife; best predator sightings |
| Khwai | 155 | 220–450 | 900+ | Elephant herds; river camps |
| Savuti | 180 | 240–550 | 1,040+ | Predator action; zebra migrations |
| Okavango Delta | 200+ | 300–700 | 1,200+ | Water-based activities; luxury resorts |
| Chobe | 180 | 250–600 | 1,000+ | Largest elephant population; river cruises |
Moremi Game Reserve offers excellent value across all price ranges. Khwai provides budget-friendly options with strong wildlife viewing. The Okavango Delta commands premium prices due to water-based activities and exclusive lodges.
Remote areas like Savuti require longer fly-ins, raising total costs. However, you get fewer tourists and more authentic safari experiences. Consider combining locations for diverse wildlife encounters and changing scenery.
All-inclusive packages simplify planning, but unexpected costs can add up. Plan ahead to avoid surprises and stay within budget.
Common hidden costs:
Factor these costs into your total budget. A $3,000 package might cost $4,500–$5,000 once you add flights, tips, and insurance.
Ask operators upfront: Do prices include alcohol? Are tips expected? What's the tipping etiquette? Clear communication prevents budget overruns.
Botswana safaris don't have to drain your wallet. Smart planning cuts costs while maintaining quality experiences.
Money-saving strategies:
Budget safaris in green season start around $1,260 for 7 days. This represents the lowest entry point without sacrificing quality.
Compare multiple operators to find the best deal. Request quotes from verified Botswana safari operators on SafariFind and compare packages side by side. Read authentic reviews from past travelers to ensure you're getting value.
Botswana's seasons dramatically affect pricing. Understanding seasonal rates helps you maximize value.
High season (July–October):
Shoulder season (April–May, September–October):
Green season (November–April):
Green season offers the best value. If you're flexible with dates, visit November–April to stretch your budget further. Wildlife viewing remains good, especially for birdwatching and predator activity.
A 7-day Botswana safari costs $1,260–$1,680 for budget options, $2,100–$5,600 for mid-range, and $7,000–$28,000+ for luxury packages in 2026.[1] Prices depend on accommodation type, season, and included activities. Most packages are all-inclusive, covering meals, drives, and park fees but excluding international flights and tips.
Most Botswana safari packages include accommodation, all meals, game drives (morning and evening), national park entrance fees, professional guides, and laundry service.[2] They typically exclude international flights, domestic flights to lodges, travel insurance, visas, vaccinations, tips, and alcoholic beverages at some camps. Ask operators for detailed breakdowns before booking.
The cheapest time is green season (November–April), when prices drop 30–50% compared to peak season.[1] Shoulder seasons (April–May and September–October) offer moderate pricing with good wildlife viewing. Peak season (July–October) commands the highest prices but guarantees exceptional wildlife encounters. Book 2–3 months ahead for green season deals.
Hidden costs include international flights ($600–$1,500), domestic flights ($300–$800), travel insurance ($50–$300), visa fees ($0–$100), vaccinations ($100–$300), tips (10–15% of total), and optional activities like helicopter flights ($300–$800) or spa treatments ($50–$200). Budget an extra $1,000–$2,000 beyond the package price for these expenses.
Yes, Botswana safaris typically cost 20–40% more than Kenya or Tanzania.[2] Botswana's "high-value, low-volume" tourism policy limits visitors and maintains premium pricing. However, you get smaller groups, pristine wildlife areas, and fewer tourists. Budget options in Botswana ($180/day) start lower than some Tanzania lodges, but luxury experiences command the highest prices in southern Africa.
Compare verified operators on SafariFind to review prices, read authentic traveler reviews, and request custom quotes. Travel during green season (November–April) for 30–50% savings. Book 2–3 months ahead and ask about package deals combining flights with accommodation. Request quotes from 3–5 operators to compare pricing and inclusions transparently.
Yes, many travelers mix accommodation types to balance cost and comfort. Spend 3 days in a budget camp ($180/day) and 4 days in a mid-range lodge ($400/day) to reduce total expenses while enjoying variety. This approach costs $1,780–$2,200 for 7 days and provides diverse experiences without breaking your budget.

Smart planning maximizes value. Book 3–6 months ahead, travel in shoulder or green seasons, and factor in hidden costs like flights, tips, and insurance. All-inclusive packages simplify budgeting, but confirm what's covered before committing.
Botswana's remote locations, expert guides, and strict conservation efforts justify premium pricing. You're investing in authentic wildlife encounters, small group sizes, and pristine landscapes unavailable elsewhere in Africa.

"On 10.9. until 1.10. In 2023, I went on a trip to Botswana, Zimbabwe and a short visit to Zambia with my clients - friends. I carefully prepared the trip in cooperation with the manager of Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours, Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. After arriving in Gaborone we organized a short tour of the city ourselves and met Tongesai in Maun. Tongesai was our driver and guide practically the whole way. We visited the Okavango River Delta and its surroundings (Moremi Reserve, Mokoro boat cruise, flight over the Okavango Delta. This was followed by a visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Flats, then the Elephant Sands area and in Botswana Chobe National Park with a cruise on the Chobe River. Then we crossed to Zimbabwe, which was the main part of our journey. In the Victoria Falls area, we visited the Monde settlement, took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, followed by a cruise on the Zambezi River as part of a visit to the national park of the same name. We also walked past Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwean side and had a Boma dinner in the evening (too much of a "tourist thing"). On the Zambian side of the falls we saw white rhinos in Mosi - oa - Tunya National Park, then visited the museum in Livingstone and walked the Zambian side of the falls. From Victoria Falls, we headed to Hwange National Park, where we had a beautiful program - a safari, and after Hwange, there was also a very interesting program in Matobo National Park (there, among other things, white rhinos (a mother with her little daughter), beautiful rock formations and prehistoric cave drawings. The next place visited was Khami with very interesting buildings, and then we visited the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, which are among the most important world monuments. This was followed by a visit to the Chinhoya Karst and finally the gallery in Harare. I would also like to comment on the provision of services: Accommodation in the hotels was at the standard, expected level, only the service at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel was rather lazy. Accommodation in lodges - very good and the best accommodation was in Iganyana tented camp in Hwange National Park, mainly due to the extraordinary professionalism and very friendly attitude of the staff there towards us, the visitors. I must also highly praise all the local guides we met everywhere, e.g. in Chobe, Hwange and Matobo National Parks. I want to emphasize that this journey is one of the most interesting that I have made around the world. I believe that my clients - friends were also satisfied with the set. Thanks to the travel agency Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours and Mr. Tongesai Mutematsaka. I recommend Cultural Vibes Travel & Tours to anyone considering a trip to Zimbabwe."

"I spent a week in Botswana with cultural vibes, travels & tours and had not a single dull moment. The hotels/lodges we stayed at were very clean and service was professional. On the drives I had good conversations with the tour operator as he taught me a lot about the culture and about all the different animals (which we saw a lot of). Overall I had a great experience and would definitely book again."

"Tongesai was awesome from the start. I knew he was a good tour operator because he answered all of my questions in a timely manner and no question was ever stupid. Everything was just as he said once we arrived and really it was better. We prepared for about a year in advance for this trip and the tour operator was instrumental and making this trip a success. I highly recommend this tour operator to anyone who wants to visit Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. Give Tongesai a call or email, and you will 100% not be disappointed. I have a very deep understanding of border crossing and transportation challenges in many African countries at this point because of the efforts of the tour operator. This makes my wife and I have very comfortable to approach another visit or look at visiting a different African country."

"We went on a 3 day safari, and even though Tongesai did not lead it himself, I want to highly recommend his services. Our group consisted of just my family; my wife, children (9, 13, 14), and me. Tongesai acted as the agent, coordinating with the organization in Botswana that ran the actual tour. He met us several days in advance, and had informed us of some critical information (like make sure to bring birth certificates for the kids) well in advance. On the first day of the Safari, he came to pick us up, and drove us to the border, where he coordinated a smooth hand over to the Botswana organization. The guide from our safari was so good! ‘Cobra’ grew up in the bush, and if shows. He was frequently coordinating with, and showing other tour guides where to find the best big game sightings. We saw so many animals, including lions, hippos, tons of elephants and giraffes, and too many other animals to name. The meals were also great! Cobra and Tongesai had contracted with ‘chef K’ for catered breakfast, lunch and dinner at the camp. All meals were great. And the camp itself was organized above my expectations. Very nice tents, raised cots, plenty warm, tables, chairs and napkins at every meal! All in all, the experience was pretty unforgettable. It’s not a cheap experience, but based on our trip I can highly recommend Tongesai’s services!"
