Rwanda's top lodge prices span roughly $425 to more than $4,500 per night, so your choice matters before you book. [4]
The best safari lodges in Rwanda for 2027 include seven stays near gorilla trekking areas, Nyungwe Forest, Akagera National Park, and Kigali. Prices range from about $425 to more than $4,500 per night. Book early for gorilla trips because permits and sought-after lodges can sell out up to 12 months ahead. [1][3][4]
The Best Safari Lodges in Rwanda 2027: 7 Stays Compared guide helps you match a lodge with your route, budget, and wildlife plans. The shortlist covers seven named properties. They include gorilla lodges near Volcanoes National Park, a forest stay in Nyungwe, a game lodge in Akagera, and a city retreat in Kigali. [1]
Rwanda is a small country, but its safari areas feel very different. A lodge near the volcanoes suits a gorilla trek. A Nyungwe property suits chimpanzee tracking and forest walks. Akagera works better for savannah drives. Kigali gives you a simple first or final night.
Quick answer: Bisate Lodge and Wilderness Sabyinyo suit travelers who want a high-end base for mountain gorilla trekking. One&Only Nyungwe House suits a forest and tea-country route. Akagera Game Lodge suits game drives. Hemingways Retreat Kigali suits city arrivals. Virunga Lodge offers volcano views and 11 stone cottages. [1][3]
Prices need careful checking for 2027. Published reports place Virunga Lodge near $1,200 per night. Bisate Lodge starts near $2,000 per night, while luxury lodge rates across Rwanda may begin near $425 and rise above $4,500. [3][4]
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators, package details, and authentic traveler reviews. Use this guide to narrow your stay, then check dates, room types, permits, transfers, and meals before paying a deposit.
The best safari lodges in Rwanda for 2027 are Bisate Lodge, One&Only Nyungwe House, Virunga Lodge, Wilderness Sabyinyo, Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, Akagera Game Lodge, and Hemingways Retreat Kigali. Bisate Lodge is a luxury choice near Volcanoes National Park. Its main strength is location for gorilla trekking. Published 2027 research lists starting rates near $2,000 per night. [1][3] Travelers should confirm whether the price includes meals, transfers, activities, and taxes.
One&Only Nyungwe House is the strongest fit for a forest-led Rwanda route. Nyungwe suits travelers who want chimpanzee trekking and time in tea country. The lodge works well when your plan includes more than gorillas. [1][2]
Virunga Lodge is known for 11 stone cottages with terraces and volcano views. Its reported rate is about $1,200 per night. [3] The lodge is a good match for travelers who want a clear mountain setting and a base near the gorilla trekking region.
Wilderness Sabyinyo is another high-end choice for a gorilla-focused stay. The 2027 shortlist places it among Rwanda's main luxury lodge options. [1] Confirm current rates before booking because the supplied research does not give a fixed 2027 price.
Mountain Gorilla View Lodge suits travelers who want a practical base near the volcanoes. It belongs on a short list for visitors who care more about trekking access than a long lodge stay. [1] Ask operators about drive times, room supplies, meal plans, and trek-day transfers.
Akagera Game Lodge is the clearest choice for a savannah safari. Akagera gives your route a different feel from the volcanoes and Nyungwe. Read the detailed guide to Akagera National Park entry fees and safari costs before setting your full budget.
Hemingways Retreat Kigali is a useful city base. It fits travelers who arrive late, leave early, or want time in Rwanda's capital. Use it before a transfer to the parks, rather than treating it as a wildlife lodge. [1]
Choose a Rwanda lodge by starting with the main activity, not the room style. Gorilla trekking points you toward Volcanoes National Park. Chimpanzee trekking points you toward Nyungwe. Game drives point you toward Akagera. Kigali works best for arrival nights and city plans.
Volcanoes National Park is the right area for a gorilla-led trip. Bisate Lodge, Virunga Lodge, Wilderness Sabyinyo, and Mountain Gorilla View Lodge all appear on the 2027 shortlist for this travel need. [1] The best choice depends on your budget, preferred setting, and interest in lodge services.
Gorilla permits may sell out up to 12 months in advance, according to one 2027 lodge guide. [3] That makes the permit date the first item to confirm. Use the guide to Kinigi gorilla trekking permits for 2027 before choosing a non-refundable lodge.
One&Only Nyungwe House is the strongest match for a Nyungwe route. The property brings your stay closer to forest activities and tea-country travel. [1][2] It suits travelers who want to add chimpanzee trekking after or before a gorilla experience.
Nyungwe trips need more planning than a single park stop. Check road transfers, activity start times, and the number of nights required. A rushed visit can leave little time for the forest activities that made you choose the area.
Akagera Game Lodge is the clearest choice for a traditional game-drive route. Akagera offers a different setting from Rwanda's mountain parks. Travelers can also compare other Akagera stays, including Ruzizi Tented Lodge, which research identifies as a mid-range option. [6]
Read SafariFind's first-timer's Akagera safari guide before booking. It can help you compare a lodge-only stay with a full safari package.
Hemingways Retreat Kigali is the practical choice for a city night. It can reduce pressure after a long flight and create a simple start before your driver collects you. Kigali also gives you time for museums, markets, and local food.
Travelers who want more city time can review things to do in Kigali in 2027. The city base is also useful at the end of a trip, especially when your international flight leaves early.
Rwanda safari lodge prices range from about $425 to more than $4,500 per night for luxury properties. Virunga Lodge is reported near $1,200 per night, while Bisate Lodge starts near $2,000. [3][4] These figures are guides, not quotes, so confirm dates and inclusions with a verified operator.
Published Rwanda lodge research shows a wide luxury range. Some properties sit near $425 per night. Others rise above $4,500. [4] Location, lodge level, demand, room type, and included services affect the final rate.
Luxury rates often look simple on a lodge page. The final trip cost is less simple. A quote may add permits, flights, transfers, tips, insurance, and private guides. SafariFind can help you request a quote from verified Rwanda safari operators and compare what each package includes.
Start with the total trip cost, not the nightly rate. A $1,200 lodge can cost more than expected if transfers and activities sit outside the room price. Ask for a written breakdown before you pay.
Mid-range properties can lower the room cost. Ruzizi Tented Lodge in Akagera and Ingagi Park View Lodge are identified as mid-range options in current tour listings. [6] They may suit travelers who want to spend more of the budget on permits, drives, or extra nights.
SafariFind's guide to Rwanda safari lodge nightly rates by budget gives you a useful next step. Compare it with operator quotes, because 2027 availability and rates can change.
Plan a Rwanda lodge trip in this order: choose the main wildlife activity, secure any permit, select the park area, then compare lodge quotes. This order reduces the risk of holding an expensive room without a confirmed trek or safari plan.
Gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking, and savannah drives need different bases. Start with one main goal. Then add a second area only if your transfer time and budget allow it.
Rwanda's attractions extend beyond the seven lodge choices. A route can include Mount Karisimbi, Iby'iwacu Cultural Village, or another Volcanoes-area activity. Eastern routes can include Rusumo Falls, while southern routes can include Kamiranzovu Waterfall.
Do not add every stop to one short trip. Long transfers can take time away from wildlife activities. Ask the operator to show travel days clearly on the itinerary.
Request the exact room category, nightly price, payment terms, cancellation rules, and inclusions. Ask who handles park permits. Ask what happens if a permit date changes or a flight arrives late.
Rwanda's 2026/2027 tour listings include 10 safari tours, which shows that travelers have several route formats to compare. [6] That does not mean every tour includes the same lodge or activity. Read every line.
Reviews help you check guide quality, food, service, transfer timing, and room condition. Look for recent, verified traveler feedback. A lodge can be excellent for gorilla access but less useful for a long city stay.
SafariFind lists verified operators and authentic reviews. Compare operator communication before booking. Fast, clear answers often matter when permits and limited rooms shape your dates.
The best safari lodges in Rwanda for 2027 are Bisate Lodge, One&Only Nyungwe House, Virunga Lodge, Wilderness Sabyinyo, Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, Akagera Game Lodge, and Hemingways Retreat Kigali. Together, they cover gorilla trekking, forest travel, savannah wildlife, and Kigali stays. [1]

Bisate Lodge, Virunga Lodge, Wilderness Sabyinyo, and Mountain Gorilla View Lodge are the strongest choices for gorilla trekking. They are included in the 2027 shortlist for the Volcanoes National Park area. Your final choice should depend on budget, room style, and included transfers. [1]
Akagera Game Lodge is the clearest choice among the seven shortlisted properties for an Akagera safari. Ruzizi Tented Lodge is another mid-range option identified in current 2026/2027 tour listings. Compare game drives, park fees, meals, and transfer costs in writing. [6]
Book as early as possible for a 2027 gorilla trip. One source reports that gorilla permits may sell out up to 12 months in advance. Lodge availability can also narrow around confirmed permit dates, so secure the permit and accommodation plan together. [3]

"I was working with a tour operator out of Kenya to plan a Uganda gorilla trek followed by a Kenya & Tanzania safari. For some reason, the Uganda portion started having issues with only a few weeks to go. Enter Brian Ahereza of GoExplore. Wow! Talk about fast acting and excellent service. Within 1 day, Brian arranged everything. The only thing that would have made my trip better is if I had added one extra day, but by this point, we couldn't squeeze it in, so Brian did the absolute best with what he had to work with. For starters, one of the best things that could have happened did! ANd that was to have Charles assigned as our driver/guide. We flew into Kigali, Rwanda and Charles met us at the airport and took us to our hotel. The next morning we got up for the long drive to the Nkoringo area of Bwindi. A lot of this drive is on some VERY difficult dirt roads and Charles was masterful at navigating the terrain. Furthermore, I was using offline Google Maps to track our location and there is no possible way I could have gotten to where Charles was going. We got to Nkoringo Lodge and immediately loved it. Brian had arranged for us to have one of only 2 rooms there that had on demand hot water. Our room overlooked Bwindi and we sat on the deck admiring the view. To get to the bar/dining area, we hiked up and over a ridge and the view from that side was south to the 3 volcanoes on the border of Uganda/Rwanda/Congo - absolutely beautiful! The next day we did the trek to the Nkuringo gorilla group. It was not a difficult trek until we had to cross a fast flowing stream because the gorillas had gone to that side and as soon as we crossed, they came back! So we did too. And then we found them and it was such a wonderful experience! My wife was standing next to me and a young male (7-8 years old??) suddenly turned and started walking towards us. My wife moved to the left, but our guide said to stand still. The gorilla walked right between us and as he passed, he stuck out his arm between my legs and grasped me around the thigh!!! OMG! Even though I could feel his amazing power, I did not feel in danger. Just as quickly, he let go and continued walking! After that amazing trek, we drove (another long day) up to Queen Elizabeth National Park and spent 2 nights at the Buffalo Safari lodge. We did a couple of games drives in which we saw lots of antelope, elephants, buffalo and 6 lions (all female, with one or two young males). We followed with a boat ride on the Kazenga channel which was fantastic. The next day, we drove to Kibale National Park to look for Chimps. We arrived at our wonderful lodge, the Chimpanzee Forest Guest House at about lunchtime and then headed to Kibale for our Chimp Trek. At lunch, we met a couple who showed us amazing pictures from their trek that very morning. Unfortunately for us, even with 7 groups in the forest, we could only find 2 chimp sand they were up in the trees. That happens in nature, but the real lesson is to take the morning trek!!! The next day, Charles drove us to Entebbe and our Uganda trip was over. One of my friends asked me about the birds in Uganda. My wife loves birds and by extension, I have come to love them as well. SHe asked Charles, our guide, about every single bird we saw. Charles had a very well worn copy of "Birds of East Africa". He didn't need that book because he had it memorized. Charles was a fantastic driver/guide/person! He made our trip incredibly special! I can't thank Brian, Charles and GoExplore enough for making this so special!!!"
5★ - "I’m a wildlife photographer, and in May 2025, I went on an 8-day private photo safari organized by Brian, the owner of GoExplore Safari. The goal was to photograph Uganda’s wildlife highlights: gorillas in Bwindi, big ca" - Jason Chen • Verified review
"I’m a wildlife photographer, and in May 2025, I went on an 8-day private photo safari organized by Brian, the owner of GoExplore Safari. The goal was to photograph Uganda’s wildlife highlights: gorillas in Bwindi, big cats in Queen Elizabeth, chimpanzees in Kibale, and the rare Shoebill Stork in Mabamba Swamp. The itinerary was well thought out, and everything ran smoothly. I flew into Kigali, Rwanda, which I highly recommend if you're heading to the Rushaga sector of Bwindi — much closer and more convenient than Entebbe. If photography is your priority, I also suggest booking two gorilla treks or considering Mgahinga. I only did one, and while it was incredible to see them, capturing strong images was difficult. The rainforest is thick, lighting tricky, and your movement limited — just something to keep in mind. Mozes, my guide, was outstanding. He’s punctual, safe, knowledgeable, and has a clear love for wildlife. He studied tourism, understands photography, and even shared stories from past conservation work, like relocating giraffes from Murchison Falls to Kidepo. He always positioned the car for the best angles and made the drives smooth and productive. Our first stop was Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, just five minutes from Rushaga Gate. The lodge was cozy, well-designed, and mosquito-free, with great coffee and local food — an ideal base for gorilla trekking. In Queen Elizabeth, we had four full days of game drives. I like to go hard on photography, so we were out from sunrise to sunset. One major perk with GoExplore is you can plan your own drive schedule within park hours (6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.). On our first day, we stayed until closing — the only car left in Kasenyi Plains. That kind of flexibility made a huge difference. I also recommend the optional lion and leopard tracking. You’re still in your private vehicle, but a tracker joins you and leads off-road directly to the cats. We spent nearly four hours with a leopard and her cubs in a cactus tree — truly a dream scenario for any photographer. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale was another highlight. The chimps came down from the trees and moved through the forest, and we followed them. The one-hour viewing stretched to 2.5 hours. For photography, it’s better to wait until they’re on the ground — the real action happens there. On the final day, we went to Mabamba Swamp to see the Shoebill. From a photography standpoint, it’s the best place in Africa to photograph this rare bird. The canoe brings you to water level, with clean backgrounds and soft light — a perfect setup. Uganda in late May was lush, green, and surprisingly dry — just one short rainstorm. The scenery, wildlife, and people made it a beautiful place to explore. If you’re considering Uganda, book with GoExplore — and if you can, request Mozes. His experience and attention to detail made the entire trip not just productive, but truly enjoyable. Huge thanks to Brian and Mozes for making it all happen!"
