The best Akagera lodges for 2027 range from about US$220 per night at budget stays to around US$1,600 per night at Magashi Camp. Akagera National Park is in eastern Rwanda, and a full safari package costs about US$2,150 for four days, US$2,900 for five days, or US$4,350 for seven days. Compare lodge space early for 2027 travel.
Akagera lodge prices in 2027 cover a wide gap, from simple rooms near the park to all-inclusive tented camps. That gap matters because your choice changes the total safari cost, drive time, meals, and level of guiding.
This guide compares the Best Akagera Lodges 2027: Rates for Every Budget Compared in plain terms. You will see budget, mid-range, and luxury options, plus package prices for longer trips. We also explain what to check before sending a deposit.
Akagera National Park is Rwanda's main savannah safari destination. Popular activities include game drives, safari trips, hiking, and spa experiences [1]. The park works well for a short eastern Rwanda trip, but a longer stay gives you more time for wildlife drives.
Quick answer: Budget Akagera safaris usually cost US$150 to US$300 per person [6]. Lodge rates can start near US$220 per night, while Ruzizi costs about US$250 to US$360 per person per night. Magashi starts near US$1,600 per night. A four-day package costs about US$2,150 per person [2] [3] [6] [7].
Rates for 2027 are planning figures, not a promise of every date. Ask what each quote includes. Meals, park fees, transport, guide services, and activities can change the final bill. SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators, package details, and traveler reviews, so you can compare before choosing.
The best Akagera lodge depends on your budget and the kind of safari you want. Dereva Hotel and Akagera Rhino Lodge suit travelers who want lower nightly costs. Ruzizi Tented Lodge adds a stronger in-park stay. Magashi Camp suits guests who want a remote, all-inclusive camp with lakeside tents.
Dereva Hotel is a budget choice with rates starting around US$220 per night in the 2027 planning range [7]. The hotel is about a 40-minute drive from the park, which can help keep room costs down while giving you a practical base for game drives [7].
Akagera Rhino Lodge also starts around US$220 per night in the supplied 2027 rate guide. This level suits travelers who care more about time in the park than high-end room design. It is also useful for couples and families watching the full trip budget.
Budget Akagera safaris typically cost US$150 to US$300 per person [6]. That figure describes the wider safari budget, so it does not always equal the room rate. Ask whether the quote covers transport, meals, park entry, and guided drives.
Ruzizi Tented Lodge is a mid-range option inside Akagera National Park. Its rates sit around US$250 to US$360 per person per night, depending on sharing [2]. The lodge works well for travelers who want to sleep inside the park and reduce long road transfers before morning drives.
Ruzizi also gives you a better fit for a two-night or three-night safari. A single night can feel rushed. Two nights create more time for game drives, rest, and changes in weather or wildlife movement.
Magashi Camp is in the remote northeastern corner of Akagera National Park. It has eight lakeside tents and offers a private wilderness setting for guests seeking a high-end stay [2]. Rates start around US$1,600 per night in the supplied 2027 planning data.
Magashi is best for couples, special trips, and travelers who want an all-inclusive camp. Premium Akagera experiences can exceed US$6,000 per night, so confirm the total before you compare a luxury lodge with a basic hotel [2].
My view is simple. Budget rooms make sense when you plan long days in the vehicle. Ruzizi is the balanced choice for most visitors. Magashi is worth considering when the camp itself matters as much as the wildlife.
Compare Rwanda safari lodges for 2027 if you are also weighing Akagera against other parks.
Akagera lodge prices range from about US$220 per night at budget stays to about US$1,600 per night at Magashi. Full safari packages cost more because they may combine accommodation, guiding, park travel, meals, and transfers. Compare the total package, not the room rate alone.
| Lodge or stay | 2027 planning rate | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Dereva Hotel | From about US$220 per night | Budget travelers and short stays |
| Akagera Rhino Lodge | From about US$220 per night | Simple stays near the safari route |
| Ruzizi Tented Lodge | About US$250 to US$360 per person per night | Mid-range comfort inside the park |
| Magashi Camp | From about US$1,600 per night | All-inclusive luxury and remote camp stays |
These rates come from the supplied 2027 planning information [2] [6] [7]. Sharing changes the Ruzizi rate, while package inclusions can change the value of every option. Request a written breakdown before you compare two quotes.
A four-day Akagera Big Five explorer package costs about US$2,150 per person. A five-day classic package costs about US$2,900 per person. A seven-day ultimate package costs about US$4,350 per person [3]. These figures describe complete packages, rather than a room alone.
| Package | Length | Approximate cost per person |
|---|---|---|
| Big Five explorer | 4 days | US$2,150 |
| Classic Akagera | 5 days | US$2,900 |
| Ultimate Akagera | 7 days | US$4,350 |
Combined Akagera and gorilla journeys start around US$6,500 and can pass US$12,000. The listed price includes a US$1,500 gorilla permit, which raises the total well above a stand-alone Akagera trip [3].
Use the Akagera entry fees and safari cost guide when checking whether your quote includes park charges. Then compare the lodge, vehicle, meals, and number of game drives line by line.
Compare 2-day and 3-day Akagera safari prices for 2027 before choosing a longer package.
Choose an Akagera lodge by setting your total budget, preferred park location, and number of safari days. A cheaper room can work well for travelers who spend most daylight hours on drives. An in-park tented lodge costs more, but it can make early starts easier.
Set a nightly ceiling before you read lodge descriptions. A US$220 room is very different from a US$1,600 camp. Then add transport, meals, park fees, and activities. This method prevents a low room price from hiding a higher trip total.
Budget travelers should look first at Dereva Hotel and Akagera Rhino Lodge. Mid-range travelers should compare Ruzizi Tented Lodge with the full cost of staying outside the park. Luxury travelers should ask what Magashi includes in its all-inclusive rate.
A two-day safari suits visitors with limited time. A three-day trip gives you more room for two game-drive periods and a slower pace. A five-day or seven-day package makes more sense when Akagera is the main reason for your Rwanda visit.
Travelers combining Akagera with gorilla trekking need a different budget. The combined journeys listed for 2027 start near US$6,500 and can exceed US$12,000, including the US$1,500 gorilla permit [3]. Read the full itinerary before you compare its price with a park-only package.
Akagera National Park offers game drives, hiking, safari trips, and spa experiences [1]. That mix means a lodge can shape your day even when you are not watching wildlife. A spa stay may suit a couple, while a family may prefer simple rooms and easy transport.
Many travelers add Kigali before or after Akagera. The Kigali travel guide can help you plan city time without confusing it with a park stay. You can also compare a gorilla route in Volcanoes National Park if your trip includes primate trekking.
Lake Kivu is another common extension. Read the guide to Lake Kivu boat tour packages if you want water activities after your safari. A wider route can be excellent, but every added stop raises transport time and cost.
SafariFind can help you request quotes from verified operators and read authentic traveler reviews before you choose. Use the details above as a checklist, then compare the exact inclusions for your dates.
Book an Akagera lodge by choosing your dates, setting a total budget, and asking for two or three written quotes. Check the lodge rate, package inclusions, park time, and cancellation terms together. For 2027 travel, start with the lodge category you want, then compare the safari route.
Ask whether the quoted amount is per person or per room. This question matters most at Ruzizi, where sharing affects the nightly rate [2]. Also ask if the quote includes meals, transfers, entry fees, and guide services.
Ask what happens if your dates change. A 2027 lodge booking may involve a deposit, a payment deadline, and cancellation rules. Keep every answer in writing. A clear quote makes two operators easier to compare.
Rwanda offers more than one safari region. Travelers can add the Iby'iwacu Cultural Village near Volcanoes National Park, or explore the Rusumo Falls area when building a wider route. These choices are separate from Akagera lodge rates, so keep them in a second budget line.
Travelers seeking a different forest trip can read about Gishwati-Mukura safari packages in 2027. Keep Akagera as the wildlife section of your route, then add forest, culture, or lake stops only when the travel time works.
The best Akagera lodges cost about US$220 per night at budget properties, US$250 to US$360 per person per night at Ruzizi, and about US$1,600 per night at Magashi. Your final total depends on room sharing, meals, transport, park fees, and guided activities [2] [6] [7].

Budget Akagera safaris typically cost US$150 to US$300 per person, but you should confirm which services the quote includes [6] [7].
Is Ruzizi Tented Lodge worth the higher price?Ruzizi Tented Lodge suits travelers who want mid-range comfort inside Akagera National Park. Its rate is about US$250 to US$360 per person per night, depending on sharing [2]. The in-park location can reduce long transfers before game drives.

"I was working with a tour operator out of Kenya to plan a Uganda gorilla trek followed by a Kenya & Tanzania safari. For some reason, the Uganda portion started having issues with only a few weeks to go. Enter Brian Ahereza of GoExplore. Wow! Talk about fast acting and excellent service. Within 1 day, Brian arranged everything. The only thing that would have made my trip better is if I had added one extra day, but by this point, we couldn't squeeze it in, so Brian did the absolute best with what he had to work with. For starters, one of the best things that could have happened did! ANd that was to have Charles assigned as our driver/guide. We flew into Kigali, Rwanda and Charles met us at the airport and took us to our hotel. The next morning we got up for the long drive to the Nkoringo area of Bwindi. A lot of this drive is on some VERY difficult dirt roads and Charles was masterful at navigating the terrain. Furthermore, I was using offline Google Maps to track our location and there is no possible way I could have gotten to where Charles was going. We got to Nkoringo Lodge and immediately loved it. Brian had arranged for us to have one of only 2 rooms there that had on demand hot water. Our room overlooked Bwindi and we sat on the deck admiring the view. To get to the bar/dining area, we hiked up and over a ridge and the view from that side was south to the 3 volcanoes on the border of Uganda/Rwanda/Congo - absolutely beautiful! The next day we did the trek to the Nkuringo gorilla group. It was not a difficult trek until we had to cross a fast flowing stream because the gorillas had gone to that side and as soon as we crossed, they came back! So we did too. And then we found them and it was such a wonderful experience! My wife was standing next to me and a young male (7-8 years old??) suddenly turned and started walking towards us. My wife moved to the left, but our guide said to stand still. The gorilla walked right between us and as he passed, he stuck out his arm between my legs and grasped me around the thigh!!! OMG! Even though I could feel his amazing power, I did not feel in danger. Just as quickly, he let go and continued walking! After that amazing trek, we drove (another long day) up to Queen Elizabeth National Park and spent 2 nights at the Buffalo Safari lodge. We did a couple of games drives in which we saw lots of antelope, elephants, buffalo and 6 lions (all female, with one or two young males). We followed with a boat ride on the Kazenga channel which was fantastic. The next day, we drove to Kibale National Park to look for Chimps. We arrived at our wonderful lodge, the Chimpanzee Forest Guest House at about lunchtime and then headed to Kibale for our Chimp Trek. At lunch, we met a couple who showed us amazing pictures from their trek that very morning. Unfortunately for us, even with 7 groups in the forest, we could only find 2 chimp sand they were up in the trees. That happens in nature, but the real lesson is to take the morning trek!!! The next day, Charles drove us to Entebbe and our Uganda trip was over. One of my friends asked me about the birds in Uganda. My wife loves birds and by extension, I have come to love them as well. SHe asked Charles, our guide, about every single bird we saw. Charles had a very well worn copy of "Birds of East Africa". He didn't need that book because he had it memorized. Charles was a fantastic driver/guide/person! He made our trip incredibly special! I can't thank Brian, Charles and GoExplore enough for making this so special!!!"
5★ - "I’m a wildlife photographer, and in May 2025, I went on an 8-day private photo safari organized by Brian, the owner of GoExplore Safari. The goal was to photograph Uganda’s wildlife highlights: gorillas in Bwindi, big ca" - Jason Chen • Verified review
"I’m a wildlife photographer, and in May 2025, I went on an 8-day private photo safari organized by Brian, the owner of GoExplore Safari. The goal was to photograph Uganda’s wildlife highlights: gorillas in Bwindi, big cats in Queen Elizabeth, chimpanzees in Kibale, and the rare Shoebill Stork in Mabamba Swamp. The itinerary was well thought out, and everything ran smoothly. I flew into Kigali, Rwanda, which I highly recommend if you're heading to the Rushaga sector of Bwindi — much closer and more convenient than Entebbe. If photography is your priority, I also suggest booking two gorilla treks or considering Mgahinga. I only did one, and while it was incredible to see them, capturing strong images was difficult. The rainforest is thick, lighting tricky, and your movement limited — just something to keep in mind. Mozes, my guide, was outstanding. He’s punctual, safe, knowledgeable, and has a clear love for wildlife. He studied tourism, understands photography, and even shared stories from past conservation work, like relocating giraffes from Murchison Falls to Kidepo. He always positioned the car for the best angles and made the drives smooth and productive. Our first stop was Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, just five minutes from Rushaga Gate. The lodge was cozy, well-designed, and mosquito-free, with great coffee and local food — an ideal base for gorilla trekking. In Queen Elizabeth, we had four full days of game drives. I like to go hard on photography, so we were out from sunrise to sunset. One major perk with GoExplore is you can plan your own drive schedule within park hours (6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.). On our first day, we stayed until closing — the only car left in Kasenyi Plains. That kind of flexibility made a huge difference. I also recommend the optional lion and leopard tracking. You’re still in your private vehicle, but a tracker joins you and leads off-road directly to the cats. We spent nearly four hours with a leopard and her cubs in a cactus tree — truly a dream scenario for any photographer. Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale was another highlight. The chimps came down from the trees and moved through the forest, and we followed them. The one-hour viewing stretched to 2.5 hours. For photography, it’s better to wait until they’re on the ground — the real action happens there. On the final day, we went to Mabamba Swamp to see the Shoebill. From a photography standpoint, it’s the best place in Africa to photograph this rare bird. The canoe brings you to water level, with clean backgrounds and soft light — a perfect setup. Uganda in late May was lush, green, and surprisingly dry — just one short rainstorm. The scenery, wildlife, and people made it a beautiful place to explore. If you’re considering Uganda, book with GoExplore — and if you can, request Mozes. His experience and attention to detail made the entire trip not just productive, but truly enjoyable. Huge thanks to Brian and Mozes for making it all happen!"
