Mountain gorillas do not live wild in Burundi. Their remaining range is limited to the Virunga Massif across Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, plus Uganda’s Bwindi landscape; Burundi’s conservation role is regional rather than protecting a resident gorilla population.

Akagera National Park gives budget travelers a Rwanda safari option with costs starting near $150 per person for a listed budget estimate. [6] This guide explains the Akagera National Park Safari Cost 2027: Budget Options, including park fees, lodging, transport, and package ranges.
An Akagera National Park safari costs about $500–$3,000 per person for budget travel in 2027, while a listed budget estimate starts at $150–$300 before unclear inclusions. [2][6] A foreign adult park fee is $100 for one day. [8] Start from Kigali, allow about two hours to reach the park, and compare verified SafariFind packages before booking.
Akagera National Park Safari Cost 2027: Budget Options is a planning question for travelers who want clear numbers before they travel. Akagera sits within a wider Rwanda safari plan, and its cost depends on the park fee, vehicle, guide, meals, nights, and lodging level.
Akagera National Park is also useful for travelers comparing a short game drive with a longer private trip. A listed one-day itinerary collects visitors from a Kigali hotel at 9:00 a.m. and drives for about two hours to the park. [1] The same outline then includes a game drive inside Akagera.
Quick answer: A budget Akagera safari in 2027 costs $500–$3,000 per person in one current Rwanda safari estimate. [2] A separate listed estimate gives $150–$300 per person, but it does not state the duration or inclusions. [6] Add lodging from $30–$100 per night and the foreign adult park fee.
This guide separates published estimates from planning assumptions. It does not treat the $150–$300 figure as a complete package price because the source gives no length or inclusions. Therefore, use it as a starting point, then ask an operator for a full quote.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators, package details, and authentic reviews. Compare 2027 Akagera safari packages and request quotes from verified operators before you choose a budget.
Akagera National Park safari cost in 2027 falls into three broad planning levels: $500–$3,000 for budget safaris, $3,000–$6,000 for mid-range travel, and more than $6,000 for luxury experiences. [2] These ranges describe broad safari planning, not one fixed Akagera package.
One Rwanda safari cost guide places 2026–2027 budget safaris at $500–$3,000 per person. [2] The same source also lists mid-range Rwanda travel separately from budget travel. This wide budget band reflects major differences in trip length, private transport, meals, accommodation, and included activities.
A separate Akagera price guide lists a budget estimate of $150–$300 per person. [6] However, that estimate does not state whether it covers one day, several days, park entry, transport, meals, or a guide. Treat the figure as a low starting point, not as a guaranteed final price.
Accommodation is a major cost driver in Akagera. A published estimate places budget accommodation at $30–$100 per person per night. [7] Mid-range accommodation costs $150–$350 per person per night, while luxury accommodation costs $450–$900 per person per night. [7]
Park entry is another fixed line for many foreign visitors. One listed fee schedule charges foreign adults $100 for one day, $150 for two days, and $200 for three days. [8] Foreign children are listed at $50, $75, and $100 for the same periods. [8]
These figures explain why two quotes for the same park can differ. A low quote may cover transport and a short activity only. A higher quote may include rooms, meals, private guiding, park fees, and several game drives.
Kigali is the normal starting point for the listed one-day itinerary. The itinerary collects guests at 9:00 a.m. and uses an approximately two-hour drive to reach Akagera National Park. [1] This route makes a short safari possible for visitors with limited time.
Travelers who want a longer Rwanda trip can also combine Akagera with other places. The SafariFind catalog includes guides to Nyungwe National Park safari costs and Lake Kivu lodge rates. Compare each stop separately so one expensive activity does not distort your whole budget.
A budget Akagera safari should show park fees, transport, guiding, accommodation, meals, and activities as separate quote lines. The clearest 2027 quote names the number of days, the room type, and the traveler count. It also states whether the price is per person or per vehicle.
Park fees can form a large share of a one-day budget. The listed foreign adult rate is $100 for one day. [8] A two-day visit costs $150, and a three-day visit costs $200 for the same visitor category. [8]
Foreign children have lower listed rates. The schedule gives $50 for one day, $75 for two days, and $100 for three days. [8] Confirm age rules and current payment terms with your operator before you pay a deposit.
Budget accommodation in or near Akagera is estimated at $30–$100 per person per night. [7] This range is useful when you compare a day trip with an overnight safari. One night adds a room, meals, and more time in the area, but it also raises the total.
Mid-range rooms are estimated at $150–$350 per person per night. [7] Luxury stays are estimated at $450–$900 per person per night. [7] These rates show why accommodation choice can move a trip from budget to premium quickly.
SafariFind readers can review the separate guide to Akagera National Park lodge prices and booking. Use it to compare room levels before you request a complete safari quote.
The listed one-day itinerary starts with hotel pickup in Kigali at 9:00 a.m. and a two-hour drive to Akagera. [1] Your quote should explain the vehicle type, fuel, driver-guide service, and return plan. It should also state if transport is private or shared.
Private transport usually gives you more control over departure times and stops. Shared travel can spread vehicle costs across several guests. However, the sources supplied for this guide do not provide a fixed transport price, so request this figure directly.
Game drives are included in the listed one-day itinerary description. [1] The available research does not provide fixed prices for meals, boat trips, walking activities, or other add-ons. Ask for each activity in writing.
A useful quote should answer five questions:
Need a firm limit? Compare Akagera safari packages under your 2027 budget and check every inclusion before requesting a final booking quote.
The best way to plan a budget Akagera safari is to choose your trip length first, then add park fees, lodging, transport, and meals. Start with a one-day trip if time is limited. Choose an overnight stay when you want the budget accommodation range and a slower schedule.
A one-day itinerary is the simplest starting point. The listed route leaves Kigali at 9:00 a.m. and reaches Akagera after about two hours. [1] It suits travelers who want a park visit without paying for several nights.
A two-day visit changes the fee calculation. The listed foreign adult park charge becomes $150 for two days. [8] A three-day visit reaches $200 for a foreign adult. [8] Add accommodation and meals to see the full difference.
Use $500–$3,000 per person as the broad 2027 budget planning band from the current Rwanda estimate. [2] Use $150–$300 only as a separate low estimate because the source does not explain its duration or inclusions. [6]
For a simple planning exercise, place the published items into a worksheet:
Do not add these figures blindly. A package may already include entry or lodging. Ask the operator to mark each item as included, excluded, or optional.
Shared travel can help lower the vehicle cost when several guests join the same departure. Private travel can suit couples, families, or photographers who want a flexible route. The supplied sources do not provide fixed shared or private vehicle rates.
Therefore, compare the final price rather than the headline price. A slightly higher quote can offer better value when it includes park fees, meals, a guide, and a room.
Rwanda offers more than one safari region. Travelers can add Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Rusumo Falls, or Kamiranzovu Waterfall if their route and budget allow. Keep each extra stop separate in your cost plan.
Gorilla trekking is a different expense. A gorilla permit adds $1,500 to a Rwanda itinerary. Travelers comparing that activity should read the guide to Volcanoes National Park gorilla trekking permit costs. This prevents you from confusing an Akagera game drive budget with a gorilla trekking budget.
The strongest budget practice is to compare complete itineraries, not only advertised starting prices. A 2027 quote should show dates, duration, accommodation, park fees, transport, meals, and activities. It should also identify the operator and explain any deposit or cancellation terms.
Akagera safari prices become easier to compare when every cost has a label. Ask for a per-person total and a group total. If children travel, request the child fee separately because the listed foreign child park fees differ from adult fees. [8]
Also ask whether the operator uses the one-day route from Kigali. The listed itinerary begins at 9:00 a.m. and takes about two hours to reach the park. [1] An earlier or later departure can change the plan, so confirm pickup time.
Budget lodging is estimated at $30–$100 per person per night. [7] Ask whether this is a shared room, private room, tent, or campsite. The supplied research does not define each room type, so the property name matters.
Mid-range lodging is estimated at $150–$350 per person per night. [7] Luxury lodging is estimated at $450–$900 per person per night. [7] If your main goal is wildlife viewing, compare how much time each lodge level leaves for activities.
SafariFind lists verified tour operators and authentic traveler reviews. Read reviews for guide quality, pickup times, vehicle condition, communication, and whether the final price matched the quote. These details help you judge value beyond the lowest number.
Look for clear answers before paying:
Gorilla trekking in Rwanda adds a $1,500 permit. That fee can overshadow a budget Akagera safari, especially on a short trip. Keep the two activities in separate budget lines.
Travelers who want gorilla trekking can also read the guide to Kinigi gorilla trekking packages for 2027. Meanwhile, travelers focused on Akagera should ask operators for a game-drive quote without a gorilla permit.
An Akagera National Park safari costs about $500–$3,000 per person for broad budget planning in 2027. [2] A separate listed estimate gives $150–$300 per person, but it does not state the duration or inclusions. [6] Ask for a full quote that lists park fees, lodging, transport, meals, and guiding.
A Rwanda safari costs $500–$3,000 per person for the broad 2026–2027 budget range in one current estimate. [2] A seven-day mid-range private Rwanda safari is estimated at $5,000–$7,500. [3] Akagera can fit a shorter budget plan, while gorilla trekking adds a separate $1,500 permit.
Gorilla trekking in Rwanda adds a $1,500 permit to your safari budget. The permit is separate from Akagera park fees, accommodation, transport, and game drives. Travelers should request a quote that clearly separates the gorilla activity from the Akagera portion of the itinerary.
Foreign adult Akagera park fees are listed at $100 for one day, $150 for two days, and $200 for three days. [8] Foreign children are listed at $50, $75, and $100 for those periods. Confirm the current 2027 fee and visitor category with your operator before payment.
A listed one-day itinerary picks travelers up in Kigali at 9:00 a.m. and drives about two hours to Akagera National Park. [1] Confirm the exact pickup point, return time, and vehicle plan because these details affect the comfort and cost of a day safari.
Book through a marketplace that shows verified operators, package details, and authentic reviews. SafariFind helps travelers compare safari packages, review operator information, and request quotes. Check the final inclusions before paying, especially park fees, accommodation, transport, and optional activities.
Akagera National Park safari cost in 2027 starts with a broad budget range of $500–$3,000 per person, while one listed low estimate runs from $150–$300 with unclear inclusions. [2][6] A foreign adult park fee is $100 for one day, and budget lodging is estimated at $30–$100 per person per night. [7][8]
Choose a one-day route if you want a simple trip from Kigali. The listed itinerary leaves at 9:00 a.m. and takes about two hours to reach the park. [1] Choose an overnight plan if you want more time and a budget room. Keep the separate $1,500 gorilla permit outside your Akagera budget.

"I was working with a tour operator out of Kenya to plan a Uganda gorilla trek followed by a Kenya & Tanzania safari. For some reason, the Uganda portion started having issues with only a few weeks to go. Enter Brian Ahereza of GoExplore. Wow! Talk about fast acting and excellent service. Within 1 day, Brian arranged everything. The only thing that would have made my trip better is if I had added one extra day, but by this point, we couldn't squeeze it in, so Brian did the absolute best with what he had to work with. For starters, one of the best things that could have happened did! ANd that was to have Charles assigned as our driver/guide. We flew into Kigali, Rwanda and Charles met us at the airport and took us to our hotel. The next morning we got up for the long drive to the Nkoringo area of Bwindi. A lot of this drive is on some VERY difficult dirt roads and Charles was masterful at navigating the terrain. Furthermore, I was using offline Google Maps to track our location and there is no possible way I could have gotten to where Charles was going. We got to Nkoringo Lodge and immediately loved it. Brian had arranged for us to have one of only 2 rooms there that had on demand hot water. Our room overlooked Bwindi and we sat on the deck admiring the view. To get to the bar/dining area, we hiked up and over a ridge and the view from that side was south to the 3 volcanoes on the border of Uganda/Rwanda/Congo - absolutely beautiful! The next day we did the trek to the Nkuringo gorilla group. It was not a difficult trek until we had to cross a fast flowing stream because the gorillas had gone to that side and as soon as we crossed, they came back! So we did too. And then we found them and it was such a wonderful experience! My wife was standing next to me and a young male (7-8 years old??) suddenly turned and started walking towards us. My wife moved to the left, but our guide said to stand still. The gorilla walked right between us and as he passed, he stuck out his arm between my legs and grasped me around the thigh!!! OMG! Even though I could feel his amazing power, I did not feel in danger. Just as quickly, he let go and continued walking! After that amazing trek, we drove (another long day) up to Queen Elizabeth National Park and spent 2 nights at the Buffalo Safari lodge. We did a couple of games drives in which we saw lots of antelope, elephants, buffalo and 6 lions (all female, with one or two young males). We followed with a boat ride on the Kazenga channel which was fantastic. The next day, we drove to Kibale National Park to look for Chimps. We arrived at our wonderful lodge, the Chimpanzee Forest Guest House at about lunchtime and then headed to Kibale for our Chimp Trek. At lunch, we met a couple who showed us amazing pictures from their trek that very morning. Unfortunately for us, even with 7 groups in the forest, we could only find 2 chimp sand they were up in the trees. That happens in nature, but the real lesson is to take the morning trek!!! The next day, Charles drove us to Entebbe and our Uganda trip was over. One of my friends asked me about the birds in Uganda. My wife loves birds and by extension, I have come to love them as well. SHe asked Charles, our guide, about every single bird we saw. Charles had a very well worn copy of "Birds of East Africa". He didn't need that book because he had it memorized. Charles was a fantastic driver/guide/person! He made our trip incredibly special! I can't thank Brian, Charles and GoExplore enough for making this so special!!!"
