Makgadikgadi Pans National Park is a key stop in Botswana safari planning. This guide breaks down package prices, entry fees, reserve fees, camp styles, and booking choices for 2027. It also explains which costs are included in different types of trips.
For a quick answer, a Makgadikgadi safari package can cost about £2,032 per person for a listed holiday, while luxury camp rates reach US$2,245 to US$3,995 per person per night. Park entry is BWP 120 per international visitor per day. Ask for an itemized quote before paying a deposit.
Prices in this guide use the latest figures available in November 2026. Operators can set different rates for transport, rooms, meals, activities, and transfers. That is why two trips with the same number of nights may have very different final totals.
What are 2027 Makgadikgadi Pans safari packages, fees and prices?
2027 Makgadikgadi Pans Safari Packages, Fees and Prices cover several travel styles, from mobile camping to high-end camps with private transfers. A listed camp rate is US$2,245 to US$3,995 per person per night. A separate luxury Botswana itinerary starts at US$14,000 per person sharing for eight days and seven nights [2][3].
Overview of the price market
Makgadikgadi Pans safari prices sit across a wide range. Trailfinders lists a Makgadikgadi holiday from £2,032 per person [5]. Travelstride lists a Botswana budget safari that includes Makgadikgadi and starts from US$4,949 [1]. These figures describe full holiday packages, rather than a single park entry charge.
The difference comes from the trip design. A short mobile camping trip may use simple camps and road transfers. A luxury package may include private rooms, drinks, activities, concession fees, and light-aircraft transfers. Always compare what the price buys, not only the headline number.
Known for
Wide salt pans and open desert scenery.
Camp-based and mobile camping safari options.
Multi-day Botswana routes that connect several destinations.
High-cost luxury camps with small guest numbers and included transfers.
Makgadikgadi Pans National Park works well for travelers who want a quieter setting than a large city-based tour. The park can also fit into a longer route through the Botswana safari catalog, where travelers can compare operators and read reviews before making a choice.
Why the price matters
The camp rate is only one part of your budget. Park entry, reserve fees, transport, meals, drinks, activities, and flights can change the final amount. A low base price may look attractive, but a package with fewer inclusions can cost more after you add each extra.
Families should check the age rule for reserve fees. The listed camp applies a US$60 reserve fee per person per night from age six [2]. That fee can add thousands of dollars to a longer family booking with several children.
International visitors should budget BWP 120 per person per day for listed Makgadikgadi Pans National Park entry. SADC regional visitors pay BWP 60, while Botswana citizens pay BWP 20. The listed vehicle entry fee is BWP 50 per vehicle [4]. These charges are separate from many lodge and tour prices.

These entry fees are easy to separate from accommodation costs. Ask your operator whether the quote includes the park fee, vehicle fee, and any concession charge. A clear invoice should show each charge and the number of days used.
Reserve and concession fees
The listed Makgadikgadi camp adds a US$60 reserve fee per person per night from age six [2]. This is different from the BWP 120 park entry fee. One pays for the camp reserve arrangement, while the other is the listed park entry charge.
The distinction matters on premium trips. An eight-night stay with two adults and one child aged six or older would add US$1,440 in reserve fees at the listed rate. That example covers the reserve fee only. It does not include park entry, flights, or other trip costs.
Package inclusions
One luxury Botswana itinerary starts at US$14,000 per person sharing for eight days and seven nights. It includes all meals, all drinks, activities, concession fees, internal light-aircraft transfers, and airport transfers [3]. This is a useful benchmark for a high-service safari, but it is not the price of every Makgadikgadi trip.
Budget and mid-range packages may use different inclusions. A package can include meals but exclude drinks. Another can include park fees but charge transfers separately. Check the following items line by line:

The mobile camping and classic lodge figures are useful planning ranges from the supplied 2027 research. The luxury camp rate comes from a specific listed Makgadikgadi camp [2]. The US$14,000 figure covers a wider Botswana itinerary, so do not treat it as a direct one-night Makgadikgadi price [3].
Getting there and building a route
Getting there depends on the operator’s route and transfer plan. Some luxury itineraries include internal light-aircraft transfers and airport transfers [3]. Other packages may rely on road travel. Ask for the transfer method, travel time, and airport used before you confirm.
Travelers often add nearby stops to a Botswana itinerary. The SafariFind catalog includes routes linked with the Ghanzi area, the Tau Pan region, and Chobe National Park. Each extra stop can change the number of transfers and nights.
Best for different travelers
Best for budget-focused travelers: Start with mobile camping or a wider Botswana package. Trailfinders lists a Makgadikgadi holiday from £2,032 per person [5]. Compare the length and inclusions before assuming it is the cheapest final option.
Best for comfort: Choose a classic camp or lodge. The supplied planning range is US$550 to US$1,100 per night. This style suits travelers who want a firm bed and a simple daily routine.
Best for luxury: Consider a package with meals, drinks, activities, fees, and transfers included. The published US$14,000 itinerary gives a clear example of this approach [3].
Best for route planners: Link Makgadikgadi with another Botswana destination. The SafariFind pages for the Motloutse River and Gcwihaba Caves can help you review possible additions.
Start by setting a total per-person budget, then separate camp nights, park fees, transport, and activities. Request a quote with every inclusion shown. This simple step prevents a cheap-looking package from becoming expensive after booking.
Use this booking checklist
Choose your preferred camp style: mobile, classic, or luxury.
Set the number of Makgadikgadi nights.
Count international visitors, regional visitors, or Botswana citizens.
Add the BWP 120 international entry fee per person per day when it applies [4].
Add the US$60 reserve fee from age six when the listed camp applies [2].
Confirm meals, drinks, activities, and transfers.
Ask whether the quote covers airport transfers and internal flights.
Read reviews before selecting an operator.
How to compare quotes
Put each quote into the same table. Use the same number of nights, guests, and transfer needs. Then compare the total price, not only the nightly rate. This approach works well when one operator bundles fees and another lists each charge separately.
Check the cancellation terms before paying. Ask when the 2027 price expires and whether the operator can hold the quoted rate. Peak dates, room types, and aircraft seats may affect availability, so early planning gives you more choices.
SafariFind connects travelers with verified tour operators and authentic traveler reviews. You can compare package details, read past guest feedback, and request quotes that match your preferred budget.
Useful route ideas
Makgadikgadi can form part of a broader Botswana trip. Some travelers may compare it with the Chobe area, while others may add a desert route near Tau Pan. The right choice depends on your trip length and transfer plan.
Budget for BWP 120 per international visitor per day for listed park entry [4].
Add the BWP 50 vehicle fee when your trip uses the listed vehicle entry charge [4].

What Travelers Say (SafariFind Reviews)
"It was not our first time in Botswana so we knew well what we wanted this year: Okavango Delta was our main goal. So we asked exactly for that and our expectations were fulfilled. We had a fantastic time in Moremi, and then Okavango. Everything was perfectly arranged: the camp for us, the staff who cared for everything we needed, food, dinner: soup, main course and ... surprise (a desert). And beautiful landscape, and animals (lions, leppards, hippos, elephants - a lot, crocs, antilopes, .....), walking, mokoro, boat. Everything we needed to have fantastic holidays. It is not our last time in Botswana, we start to plan next year...."

"We didn't know what to expect when we first met Theno Jakwa in the hotel car park in northern Botswana. After sitting down for a light dinner we were immediately made comfortable that the next two weeks would be a great experience. The next morning we set out to our first exploration of a National Park, seeing a wide variety of animals all clearly introduced by Theno. Within the first few hours we saw dozens of elephants, giraffes, impala and hippos. Details like sex, approximate age, condition and behavior were patiently explained, as were the best ways for us to interact. Over the next two weeks he continued this same approach and our animal interactions were more and more exciting as we experienced buffalo, hyenas, wild dogs, warthogs, zebras, leopards and lions. Interestingly we noticed that in addition to our family, Theno also had the respect of many of the the other vehicle guides, who would defer to his guidance in positioning vehicles around feeding or resting animals. The setup for camping was superb. My family and I camp regularly and offered to help, but everything was automatically done before we could lift a finger. We enjoyed the food as well as the casual chats each evening by the fire. We were sad when our journey finally ended, but look forward to heading back again for another trip with Theno and his team."

"I went on a safari with this company with a group of friends. Sox, the owner and operator was very good at communicating about what to expect on the safari as well as any precautions to observe around the wild animals. He was extremely well informed about all the flora and fauna given that he also grew up around the area in Botswana. His staff were also very friendly and helpful and always there to provide excellent service. Given his vast knowledge of the area, he seemed to intuitively know where we might see all of the animals, including the elusive ones, such as the leopard. As a result we saw all of the wild cats and watched with delight as we witnessed the baby lions playing. The other plus was that it was reasonably priced for a 10 day safari, far less than others I had checked and there were only 6 participants on the safari. In conclusion, I would highly recommend Sox and his company for an excellent experience of a lifetime. I came back to Canada and have recently recommended it to friends who will be going on one of his upcoming safaris. It’s not to be missed!"

"We spent 5 days in october 2021 with Sox as a guide and driver during a moving safari first in Savuti and then in Okavango. Sox was very professional and pleasant, he definitely knew where and when you are likely to find every wild animal, he was also able to make it fun for our 3 kids (aged 5 to 10). He was very nice, and made this safari an unforgettable experience for all of us. We definitely recommend to go on safari with him. Plenty of photos and details on our blog (in french) : https://notrepetiteodyssee.legtux.org/2021/11/19/botswana-famille-safari-savuti/ https://notrepetiteodyssee.legtux.org/2021/11/19/botswana-famille-safari-okavango/"

"Huge shout out to Sox and his team at Okavango Exploration Safaris. We have just returned from our 12 day mobile camping safari in Botswana. We met in Maun and then travelled through both the Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park river front, ending our trip at Victoria Falls. It was such a wonderful holiday, we all loved every minute of it. There were so many animals, it was amazing. We booked a private tour with 7 of us, which was the perfect amount to fit nicely in the jeep and around the dinner table. I believe you can also book individually and Sox will put a group together for you. The camping was very comfortable, with quick hot water showers and your own bush toilet at the back of each tent. All meals were provided and we especially loved the morning tea and sundowner drinks on the front of the jeep whilst out on safari. We chose the fully serviced safari, so the team did all the work, making it very relaxing for us. It was a very special holiday and I can’t wait to do it again, would highly recommend."
